    I love trains as much as anyone that isn’t a common person. I was excited seeing the new HRTs and LRTs LA has and is getting, I had to contain my excitement seeing the old deep tube stock and the Bombardier S8’s in London, and the trams in Paris made me happy I stayed in Clichy instead of some other arrondisement (This hotel, by the Boulevard Periphique, if you’re interested.).

    And of course, all the NTTs are better than everything else (NYCT) runs today.

    And I was the same way about buses when I saw the new Routemasters and Mercedes models in London and the Renault/Irisbus Agora in Paris. And when the Orion V models here and back home in Sacramento were retired.

    I didn’t moan or lose my faculties over any of it. 
     

    So I’m wondering why that’s happening here - since the R211s are going to be produced, and the R179s are still being delivered - both in the next few years. Is this a NYer thing? Because it seems like these things of metal and electrics are causing a lot of “fights” and snipes.

    Help me understand?

     

    The HR4000 looks so good!

    I Wish that we could have that seating configuration at our trains though.

    The fact that they say "new fleet of New Technology trainsets" I believe signifies the R211s, since the R179s are essentially done testing and in-service.

    Also from the ERA Bulletin October 2019:

    "1,077 new Subdivision “B” cars would also be ordered as options onto our current R-211 order that will replace the R-32 class and oldest of the R-46 class cars." (page 20).

    That's what I found. Let's see if the R32's actually pull through though.

    No, actually, the r32s will be retired this spring.

    MTA and bombardier dont even want to commit to making sure the 179s are running reliably. its pretty obvious that they (the 179s) still have door problems because A) they rushed them all back into service in only a few weeks and B) they hardly did any repairs. if they really wanted to commit to repairing the 179s properly, MTA would have sidelined them for another few more weeks or possibly months before putting them back in service. 

    and lets not forget they all had a bunch of problems BEFORE testing....and they still have the same problems AFTER entering service. the 142s did have problems, but ALL of them got resolved DURING testing and they ran completely fine after entering service. and for the R68 situation, yes they experienced similar problems but all of them went through extensive work to make them run normally, unlike the 179s which still run like garbage after being rushed into service with minimal repairs. the situation for the 46s can be worse than the one for the 179s but that just goes back to @VIPs point about how technology wasnt as advanced as it is now. 

     

    When do you think this issue will be resolved?

    The R-32s are now down from 140 to 122.

    These 18 are now retired effective January 31, 2020:

    3354/55, 3416/17, 3454/55 (dang, didn't make it...), 3484/85 (double dang...), 3688/89, 3732/33, 3774/75, 3834/35, 3888/89.

    All was quiet today (Monday).  Might be a good sign that the R-32 roulette wheel has at least paused for now.

    Are the r42s Retired Yet?
