  1. Lol yea, I’m a special case lol. Initially got in as conductor last summer, finished that school car, then got called for TO couple months later, finished that schoolcar, a month in my old job called me back with a sign on bonus for a couple months. Someone at transit told me it’s better to resign at that moment than try to get away with doing both jobs, cuz I could have gotten in trouble and terminated for it. I resigned the proper way and So to get put back on the list if you don’t mind re-doing schoolcar, which I don’t mind at all, after I was done at my old job collecting that extra bonus was worth it for me. So now just hoping they call me before the list expires. But I already got confirmation my list number was reinstated and plus I reached out to Olha again, So just the waiting game again lol
  2. Thanks so much for the info. Let me ask if you’ve heard this scenario before and if you have any info on this. If you’ve done the hiring process already, gotten the job, then had to resign for whatever reason, but still were able to be reinstated to the list to be hired again, would you have to go through the application process, would you have to go through finger prints again if it’s all in the same year? I know medical and drug test would def have to be completed again but hoping I don’t have to deal with the application or finger prints as I’ve actually done it twice already in the past year.
  3. So they might be calling me soon you’re saying to come to 180 for drug testing and medical for the August class?
  4. Anyone know how long it takes to be called once you’ve been reinstated to the list at a much lower number than they’re currently at now? I’m list #23**
  5. Hey, anybody have an idea of how long until you get called again when having your name reinstated to the list? I was off the list now back up and I was #29**
  6. You’ll sign up for the health insurance and other options the day you go to the union. It’s an all day thing.
  7. I spoke with Ms. Olha today and she advised the Nov. 15 class is still pending approval from the city as they are awaiting the list to hire from which she said they could receive this week. So be alert on your emails and calls the next week or so to complete day 2 (medical/final processing) of processing if you already completed day 1.
  8. So for training the first week and all written exams are at ps248. After the first week you will be traveling to all terminals/yards and will most likely be different every day.
  9. If they passed you for medical then you’ll be in the next class. Just depends when they confirm it. One of the biggest issues right now is the lack of TSS’s for school car. They’ve had to call back retired TSS’s to try to get classes even started. This might be one of the biggest MTA hirings ever. No one was prepared for the pandemic/ all the staffing losses in the system and they clearly had no plan for coming out of the pandemic and the city going back to work and tourism. I’d say we could be back to pre-pandemic ridership by mid next year. And I doubt they will have the proper staffing by then. Hence why they are rushing things so much right now.
  10. If they called you in for day one (pre-employment/drug screen) they are projecting you for the next class. Every class size can be different size based on the exact needs for that moment. Again nothing I’ve heard set in stone yet and I’m asking everyday while currently working as a conductor on probation lol
  11. 23xx here, waiting to be called back for day 2 medical/final processing which could be any week now. Projected next class is mid Nov.
  12. 8 weeks for A division and 9 weeks for B division just because there’s an extra week of posting because there’s more train types in B division. I was told T/O school car is 6 months for A division and 7 months for B division for the same reasons.
  13. I know this is response to the previous posts. And I fully agree with you here. I’ve only just got on the job a couple months as a conductor and like I had messaged earlier I am currently in pre-employment process for T/O. Prior to coming into NYCT, I worked in retail loss prevention for 10 years. It’s all the same BS anywhere you work. It truly is about what you make it. There will always be positives and negatives about any job. It’s what you make of it. Stay positive and you might have some good days in NYCT. Lol. Good luck to everyone going through the process to get in. This definitely isn’t for everyone but if you don’t let others emotions get to you this job is very easy.
  14. Could be anywhere between 3-90 days. Currently it sounds like there is a class scheduled for Nov 15. But things change here daily.
  15. Invest in the KaKa bag or invest in a similar bag where you can hide the straps if needed. Depends the TSS you have during school car but several don’t care if you have straps or not as long as you hand carry it when you’re on tracks.
  16. 100% accurate here. I spoke with Ms. Olha and she advised that currently the 7604 exam list is set to expire Fall of next year but could be extended because there is no word on another exam yet. But everyday brings something different especially in NYCT so you never know.
  17. Just bring your paperwork to the day of your appointment. If you fill it out prior to the date just don’t put the date you filled it out until the day of your appointment.
  18. Personal preference technically but, Money will be better. Faster to top pay, for TO is 3 years opposed to CR which is 6 years. Less opportunities you have to deal with public as TO. Also a funny one but I’d prefer the TO uniform over CR lol. Plus I hate to say this but, it’s honestly true though some may deny it, you are respected more as a TO than a CR. And I see it everyday now. I personally don’t get why but I just see it 😕 And lastly if you want a supervisor role in the future like TSS, you have to be a TO for two years I believe. Anyway good luck on the list they are hiring like crazy rn!
  19. Anyone know when the next class is supposed to start? I just got the email for pre-employment processing for next Wednesday the 6th. I just finished school car for conductor and I’m only a couple weeks in and def would prefer to be a TO lol
  20. When it comes to improper zoning, remember to always confirm your platform and acknowledge conductors indication board. MDC will be in TERM in your non-operating cab. Turn to ON and open all doors. Make your announcement, “Attentions passengers the doors will be closing and opening momentarily, stand clear of the closing doors please”. Once you’ve closed up properly. Turn key to RUN and press DeZone. Now go to your operation cab and complete proper procedures to zone up that cab. REMEMBER NEVER TURN KEY TO “RUN” WITH THE DOORS OPEN I suggest talking out the steps out loud while you do it. Also recording and listening to yourself doing the procedures as well might help.
  21. Yard practical is starting from Terminal operations, car inspections, overcome an improper zone and also door troubleshooting. Road Practical is regular station to station stops, with mixed in short stops, station overrun and station bypass. Supposedly with the Superintendent. Good to know how to isolate a car, but it’s rather easy so I wouldn’t necessarily worry about that as I did not hear it currently being part of either practical. Heard all this from a pretty reliable source. Also just want to ease some of the minds from something I saw posted earlier, in case you’re worried. If you do have issues climbing on an R68 (B division) you will be given another opportunity to climb on an A division train, as they are a tad smaller and easier to climb, and if you can and are okay with being in the A division you’ll still be able to pass through. I witnessed this happen during school car. hope this helps!
  22. I would say drug screen and medical within next 1-3 weeks. Ensure you fill out all your paperwork properly once they send it to you. It’s a lot but just follow the instruction given. Good luck!
  23. I think the crew room and there should be someone in there. I actually got the direct deposit already. Thought I would have to wait several paychecks for that so happy it went through right away.
  24. Also a question for those who completed school car, when you start posting week with another conductor is that scheduled Monday-Friday or it’s weekends also? thanks.
