  1. Why would the MTA reuse the the fences that are at each end of the station at Westchetser Square (6) station, they could’ve installed the new modern walls like at 82nd street on the (7), and replacing the lights with modern ones instead of repainting everything, at least those platforms were replaced and not reused

  2. Update at Queensboro plaza: The elevator structure has been installed outside the south end of the station, by the way, the plan is to rebuild the ramp that leads to the station, so they’ll most likely replace the old staircase.
111 Street: The contractors have removed the stair railings, not the whole staircase just the railings, and they’ve removed the fence the leads to an abandoned staircase at the east end of the station, this most likely means the Windscreens/walls will be removed by next week.

  3. Here’s is a link to a Skanska safety week video, showcasing the work that’s happening at Woodside 61 Street, there is a few scenes of what’s hidden the blue walls

The platforms have been removed on both platforms in half, the the steel beam structures are being repaired and replaced, this is the reason for why the project is delayed

  4. So it seems like the contractors are finally doing this fast, at least at 111 Street the signs and benches everything has been removed, I also want to point out that they are now doing all this without the blue walls that they used last year, it’s now just gated at both stations, 82nd street has a few exposed areas, hopefully this way the project will be faster. If everything goes fine, we could potentially see the windscreens/walls gone by this month.

  5. It seems like 69th and 52nd street will be seeing overcoat painting beneath the platforms “I’m referring to the steel beams” there is strange yellow wood planks beneath the train tracks, and there is some construction noise around that area. Also at Queensboro Plaza, the first LED ads are being installed

  6. Today is officially the last day of Flushing bound service at 111 and 82nd Street, 11:45 PM

Also a quick update at Woodside 61st street, the contractors are installing new steel beams where the express tracks are since the old ones have been in such corroded conditions, I’m pretty sure this is the reason why the project is so delayed, it also explains the big huge yellow machines on both ends of the station

  7. I think the cause of the delays was because of the queensboro plaza elevator project that shut down the line in half for 3 weeks, which disrupt track access at 82nd and 111 street, all of this happening in January and February is what causes the project to get delayed to April rather then it’s original opening date in March

Pretty sure you and many others would have complained if this was a rush job instead.

The community has the right to complain, the MTA doesn’t promise anything on time anyway, all their recent projects have been delayed for months, especially for the (J) stations in Jamaica. A 6-7 month construction project is enough time, I would accept a month of delay or 2

  9. Finally the first signs are being installed on both stations, sadly 111 Street won’t be fully completed by tomorrow, that’s why I think the contractors covered the area in green walls, but at least the station is partially renovated, new platforms, new stairs, they’re the most important parts of the project

  10. New stairs at 82nd Street Left corner of Roosevelt Avenue, it’s not fully completed as of now, by the way I don’t think the mezzanine will be fully completed anytime soon, I believe once the other stairs are finished they will repair the mezzanine area. The MTA is hiring anyone right now to do these projects, where are the old contractors😒

  11. So as of today, April 19th will be the official opening date for 82nd Street and 111 Street stations, hopefully this time it stays like that, 82nd street looks 85% complete, The contractors have installed new steel benches, the PA system is fully installed, the help point’s are installed, and other utilities have been done, 111 Street still lacks on this, but hopefully it’s done by then.

Any plans to put up any platform barrier at Grand Central ?

I haven't been there in a couple of years, but I remember such barriers near the east end of the platform since the 1970's since it appears to be able to handle almost 12 cars.

Seems like there is yellow marks on the floor, indicating future “pilot” platform barriers, which in this case it makes sense, there is enough space to add them there.

I think we once again need to go over what being a “pilot program” is.

the gates we have up now are not designed to be permanent. They are testing the concept.

the gates in Japan are supposed to be permanent.

Doesn’t seem to be the case when the MTA is adding them randomly on the (7), the pilot test should’ve occured on just the original 3 stations.

  14. Today at 82nd Street, the new windscreens/walls are 100% compete, they’re just awaiting to install the Green frames that are always added on every renovated station, it seems like the MTA will add art work on certain areas, similar to the ones on the (F) and (D) stations. Sadly the huge “82” sign won’t return to the station.

  15. With the redevelopment of the neighborhood Willets Point in Queens, the MTA should start planning to make the Mets Willets point station ADA accessible, and a full station renewal work before the redevelopment work is done, before 2026

    "In Queens, Manhattan-bound  (7) skips 111 St and 82 St-Jackson Hts Through early 2024"

It's April 11th and there is no sign work is about to be completed.

Supposedly it’s going to reopen by April 19th, 82nd Street almost looks complete, but 111 Street still lacks on completion, im more worried about the mezzanine level, since the area isn’t completed for both stations. This is what happens when they only close one platform at a time, they should’ve closed both platforms without passengers around to disrupt work.

  17. I’ve seen another transit system on instagram with platform barriers that are designed better than the cheap hideous ones on our subways, it’s located in Japan and the design is similar to ours but built with iron metal, it has space for doors to open, it’s not fully closed off but it looks very modern type, unlike ours with yellow paint on it, looks like something out of the 60’s, MTA is downgrading so bad now a days
