To clear up something else, most if not all 2023+ buses on the MTA Bus signs are not able to be tracked rn. I doubt a solar storm is able to target 100+ buses of a specific model year. All other buses seem to track just fine.
Yeah you right but this is a possible scenario that could happen so.
Whatever happens, after today things should be back to normal in terms of transfers.
end of discussion.

To clear the air here, there was a strong solar storm that affected gps and communication systems all across the earth. It peaked from Friday through Sunday night.
To understand what a solar storm/flare is, here’s an article: https://www.earth.com/news/secondary-peak-extreme-geomagnetic-solar-storm-expected-today/
Here’s an excerpt: Solar Flares: Intense eruptions of electromagnetic radiation from the Sun’s surface. Geomagnetic storms can have significant impacts on various aspects of modern technology and infrastructure:
- Power Grids: Strong geomagnetic storms can induce currents in power lines, causing transformers to overheat and potentially leading to widespread power outages.
- Satellite Communications: Charged particles can damage satellite electronics and disrupt communication signals.
- GPS and Navigation Systems: Geomagnetic disturbances can interfere with the accuracy of GPS and other navigation systems.
- Radio Communications: Storms can disrupt radio signals, affecting communication systems that rely on HF, VHF, and UHF bands.
Like I said certain buses trackers are glitched still from what happened over the weekend so be advised certain movements are correct so judge them at your own observation.
And yes bus trackers glitch from time to time but do understand the why people are saying this was due to a solar flare/geometric storm. Things should be normal at this time.

I'm not sure why people are acting as if the MTA has the money to rebuild and fix off their property? They are a government agency, they will need money to fix the vast system we have in this city. Our depots are very old, they were old trolley barns for a lot of them, they need to be rebuilt or renovated, but at the same time look how long its taking for Jamaica bus depot to even get rebuilt. This was planned years ago, but construction won't even start until when? Next year?
The MTA needs money, but the MTA needs to also be freed from being a pawn for politicians as well.
Not only bus depots, but most of the infrastructure in NYC that needs to have maintenance and repairs to keep up. Look at some apartments and NYCHA housing that’s getting violations bc they ain’t got no good maintenance or repairs done in a while. Look at what happened to that Building in the Bronx that partially collapses with all them violations. But back to depots, you made a good point, I have a feeling that they will be too late on fixing ENY and damage is done. Flatbush already has a bus that is oos because of a ceiling that fell on it. It’s crazy at this point, but I’m not surprised.

They need to do something about East New York depot. Look at the damage right there.
They need to replace the building fast cuz if the walls break, that’s it for East New York. They started doing Jamaica Depot with upgraded equipment, East New York needs to be next with the others that need to be in the age of the future

From the article:
St. Cloud, Minnesota, USA – March 11, 2024: (TSX: NFI, OTC: NFYEF, TSX: NFI.DB) New Flyer of America Inc. (New Flyer), a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc. (NFI) and North America’s leading manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses, today announced that it has been awarded two new contracts from the New York City Transit Authority including firm orders for 429 Xcelsior® buses (671 equivalent units or EUs) with options to purchase up to 1,661 additional buses (2,379 EUs) over the next five years.
In total, the two contracts add 3,050 EUs to NFI’s first quarter 2024 backlog, including:
A firm order for 187 battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGE NG™ 40-foot buses (187 EUs), with 943 additional options available (943 EUs).
A firm order for 18 battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGE NG™ 60-foot buses (36 EUs), with 272 additional options available (544 EUs).
A firm order for 224 Xcelsior® 60-foot clean diesel buses (448 EUs), with 446 additional options available (892 EUs).
NYCT is part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the largest transit authority in North America with an annual ridership of more than 425 million. In 2023, the MTA placed an emphasis on environmental goals, including a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 85% between their 2015 baseline and the year 2040. The battery-electric vehicles manufactured under these contracts will support MTA’s goal of transitioning the agency’s entire bus fleet to zero-emission alternatives by 2040. NYCT’s battery-electric vehicle purchase was supported through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Low or No Emission (Low-No) grant program.
Wow… that’s a whole lotta new flyers coming up soon…

Whether or not the is going to extend the routes free by 6 more months, there are plans from NYS lawmakers to have 10 more bus routes free, and to increase frequencies.

Let's see how this pans out since nobody cares about paying their fares. Also... putting more routes? sheesh they going ahead with doing that to increase congestion pricing

They're back for a short time but so glad 🥹
Meanwhile me, I'm waiting for that new XD40 out of JFK to pop up, I just hope they take care of the buses

Apparently, they're getting ready to add national guard, more police, and possibly metal detectors onto certain subway platforms

I'm not sure where that info came from, but as per the current deployment sheet, the allotment is still as follows, and has not been changed:
LGA (40), JFK (42), ECH (34).
The information was from my assumption. interesting how it’s 40 and not 41 for LGA and 34 not 33 for ECH maybe my math was wrong idk but yeah that’s from my assumption for now. And I know it’s not good to assume that’s why I said take it with a grain of salt

Interesting, I wasn’t too off on number assignment from what I’m seeing from the deliveries being done, I’m surprised LGA getting less buses but then again they have new flyers so it’s expected. I wonder where the 26 will go

Of course, if the bus goes off-route, then the bus doesn't appear on bus time. I think the express buses have the screens set up to after the last pick-up stop, they go blank or just play ads until they reach the first drop-off in Manhattan. I've had a guy that would toggle his destination sign to "MTA Bus" or "Not In Service" after last pick-up stop for whatever reason then proceed to kick us off at 6th Av/36th St because he was lazy. Or the bus sometimes just has a broken tracker.
Ahh classic 😂 I rode the Q25 the other day, the onscreen announcements on one bus wasn’t on. Also you have BOs not updating the signage for the right destination so sometimes you’d have Q25 saying LIRR station instead going to flushing or visé versa

That’s the problem. The fleet deployment plans keep changing, it’s becoming annoying.
I’m sure that LGA is getting 41 and JFK is getting 42, that’s why bus 9313 arrived so that it can starts JFK’s assignments (I hope so)
LGA: 9272-9312 (41 buses)
JFK: 9313-9354 (42 buses => split 21)
EC: 9355-9378 (33 buses)
These could be the number assignments but take that with a grain of salt, also I hope my counting is correct lmao
Also… (I’m gonna just assume so don’t take this seriously) since Novas are almost finished at BP and rolling in JFK, there’s 308 buses in total which depending on how much LGA would get I’d assume it would be a split from the 262 buses (excluding BP) that they would get. JFK would most likely have 9010-914x assignments and then LGA would have 914x or 915x-9271 assignment. But then again MTA loves to play the changing games so I’m going with what I see happening rn

If the NGs continue to be actively retired then, they could be gone by the end of the year.
2009 and 2010 are slowly getting retired but the 2007 OGs and 2008 NGs are probably gonna be gone by the end
Also noting, these OGs used to dominate NYC alone (hundreds of them) and now there's only 11 of them left. They had such a big mark on the MTA since 2002. Im gonna miss them
