  1. for me, it was the RFW, BVE and Photography...

As long as i can remember the first thing id do when get on a train is to run up to the RFW (slants on the west end B ftw)..

I discovered BVE about 6-7 years ago, and later started developing for it..

To be totally honest, now, the NYC subway has lost its appeal (it just isn't what it used to be anymore), most of the trains look exactly the same (soon it'll be all of them) on top of the fact I've pretty much seen the entire subway (except woodlawn) and now im just in it for the photo ops lol

As for fantrips, I still never been inside a bus depot or train yard or rode a MoD train or other special fantrip lol

  2. Yes, I was looking into this Canon because it is a bridge camera. I wanna learn about aperture and shutter speed befor I get a full fledged SLR. I also found this really good deal that comes with a bunch of accesories for only 35 bucks more.

its too bad the Sx10/Sx20 doesnt support conversion lenses & doesnt have the adapter..with my S5, i could get the adapter (which isnt even on the market anymore smh lol) and attach 58mm filters to it too..

  3. i would recommend that camera, I have the Canon S5 which is an older version of that camera; it is great to use and has all the manual settings that is offered by an SLR (although the ranges arent that good and the photo quality wont be as good as an SLR's as it is still technically a Point & Shoot) either way it is still a very competent and complete camera and i would easily recommend it, excellent if you are looking for something to practice with before you get an SLR (like me lol)

idk exactly about that one, but if your into movies, the movie mode on my S5 is excellent. the picture is vivid and clear (even at 320x240 resolution), the sound is crisp, i can use the optical zoom while filming and it focuses automatically (however the files are huge). ive seen some samples from the newer DSLRs that can record movies, and the quality isnt as good.

however, always remember a good photographer gets good pictures with any equipment.

  4. your camera took a Scheiße :P

Time to get a new one.

Don't feel bad. This was the fate of the "Bx12SBS camera"

    DSCF0265.jpg

DAMN What the **** happened to that !!!

my little L11 camera is starting to crap out on me as well lol it's laggy, non-responsive, sometimes it doesnt feel like turning on and turns off by itself as soon as i let go of the power button, and the photos are cloudy and foggy (some of you think its a dirty lens its not lol)

my S5 is still good tho lol but i wana get an SLR this summer (if i get a job of course)

  5. I was wondering if you guys have any particular set of manual settings on your camera that you go by for a particular scene (such as Tv 1/125 on the R160s, 1/400 f2.7 for sunset etc) and would like to share them..

I want to know about sunset in particular though since ive been having some difficulty with them lately my special ISO-80 1/400 f/2.7 combo isnt working so well for me anymore apparently lol

  6. on my computer i sort em by date & 1 or 2 words to help me remember what it is. for example:

    railfanning 6-23-09

    subway 6-24-09

    date 6-25-09 etc

on photobucket its a mess lol i dont really organize em on photobucket i just upload them but obviously they would go by date since i upload em usually asap after i upload them on the computer

  7. Sometimes when you take a photo, the color can be kinda off. That's when you use White Balance to fix it. You can also be creative and mess it up on purpose to see what happens lol

Usually underground IND lines are the way to go, they have long platforms which means more room for you to get your pics from. 14th Canal and WTC all have long platforms so that shouldn't be a problem

  8. That doesn't mean all Fujifilms are bad, it just means that particular model is bad. You need to shop for cameras by features, not just brands. For example, if you're going to take mainly subway pictures, you would need a camera with a digital image stabilization mode, High ISO mode, fast shutter speed, etc. BTW, I thought you had a Nikon D40?

digital image stabilization is really useless it just bumps up the ISO

you want optical image stabilization, which actually shifts the lens along with your hand shakes to balance it out

for me its manual settings lol in my opinion get a camera with manual settings and your good

  9. I use a Fujifilm A500 with 5 MP and 3X Digital Zoom. Nothing special. My camera doesn't really have many options though. If I change from Auto to Manual I only get to change three more things (White Balance, and two other things), so I usually always keep my camerao n Auto but change the ISO when I'm underground. I'd want a new camera (P&S) with image stabilization, at least 7 MP, etc. Kinda like an HP PHotosmart.

what are the 2 other things on your fujifilm ??

and whatever you do DO NOT BUY A HP PHOTOSMART CAMERA

those are BAD, VERY VERY BAD

trust me i had to put up with one for 6 months...just couldn't take it anymore and bought my nikon L11

that thing now doesn't even work anymore, the thing won't charge anymore and the lens lid is broken
