Hi! Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, I've been bogged up with a lot of things going on my end 😕 Unfortunately, no, I haven't figured out a way for that

No problem.  I understand.  We are all very busy during this unprecedented times due to COVID.  Ugh.  OK thanks for telling me. No problem  when I log in there I will just make screen shots of OMNY so I know what is the timeline for it.  I just want the screens shots like you posted about the OMNY for buses that's all nothing special. Thanks again stay safe and healthy to you and your family.

I can't wait for the actual OMNY cards so that I can transfer and not have to pay per ride. Plus I wouldn't have to worry about filling up the Metrocard at a subway station which can be a hassle at times especially since I don't live by a subway station.

    Hi

The pay per ride DOES have a transfer.  I tried it and I was in Manhattan going to my gym back when it first reopened during COVID in Sept 5 then cancelled my gym to risky.  After I took the SBS bus I tried taking the subway knowing that I have a transfer and to my surprise it just says "GO".  I though I was going to be charge a second time but no I didn't get charge the second time because I went to the OMNY account and say PAYGO "$0.00".  In Canada Vancouver it is much better because they tell you how much you have left on your card when you go through the fare gate without going to the machine and check it.  In Toronto it is like in NYC they don't tell you how much you have left you card and you have to use the machine to find out.  I like much in Canada Vancouver better the transit.  It's so different then NYC.

When are the various Queens TA and Bus Company buses getting it ?

Just on Saturday Oct 17, 2020 I took the Q15 buses and I saw the OMNY card reader but it says coming soon.  I think by mid November all the queens buses should have the OMNY readers installed and be ready for service.  They are staring to install the OMNY card reader on Queens buses now which is great and I can start tapping my credit cards on buses not just subways anymore .  I just need finish using my Metro Card and what is left on that card.  I wish that you can transfer the Metro Card money to the credit card that way I don't have to use the Metro Card anymore.

Damn, the (G) line ain't even done like they announced it would be. Why they heading to the Rockaways? LOL

The MTA want to finish this OMNY project as you know so it can be launch NYC wide so people can start using it.  So treat this as a surprise. Where will be the next OMNY station installed next.  It's almost the end of October and we are going into November. I can't wait until this whole OMNY is finished and the MTA will produce their own OMNY card.

There was an OMNY focused webinar hosted by Cubic yesterday, and while most of it centered on buses (see my post in the OMNY Bus thread), there were some nuggets of info that applied to the subways as well, and I'll post it here:

    • There are 3,420 active readers in Subway Stations as of late September (that number has certainly gone up).
    • MTA sees Citibike as a potential partner entity of OMNY, along with other obvious partners (ferries, PATH, NICE/Bee-Line), and they're working on "regional aspects" of OMNY right now so that they can come up with and seal agreements with other agencies to use and accept OMNY.
      • However, they're waiting until their back-end system is "fully mature" before beginning the physical rollout with those orgs, which they expect to happen in 2022. Their ultimate goal here: "to support Mobility as a Service".
    • "Now, whether we continue and use those same type of (unlimited) passes in an OMNY environment or we would transcend to a fare capping environment...those are policy decisions that are yet to be determined..." - Al seems to hint that that if NYCTA switches over to fare capping with OMNY, unlimited ride passes wouldn't necessarily stay along for the ride. I might be over-interpreting that statement (or just flat out reading it wrong), but it does raise some interesting possibilities/questions...
    • Towards the end, the possibility is briefly raised of on/off-peak fares - around minute 43 - once OMNY is fully rolled out, suggesting they're at least thinking about it for the subways, given that the RR's already run on that model...

Second and third bullet points are in the post I made in the OMNY Bus thread, but felt that they applied here as well. Can delete them from this post however, Mods, if need be.

If you're interested in watching the webinar yourself, you can sign up and watch it here: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/4487088671056335119

Thanks for the info.  Do you know how we can download the video without registering and you watch it later?

Is this the thing where you get "capped" after using your credit card / phone / watch a certain amount of times in a certain period?  I really don't want to have to keep track of forty to fifty additional credit card purchases a month.

I don't think it will be capped because the MTA said they don't plans for that now.  It might be in the future who knows.  I just hope they bring back the "fun pass" if anyone remembers that when they introduced the Metro Card the blue cards back then.  That would be good for tourist.  But then again with this COVID crisis currently I don't think a lot of people visiting NYC now bummer.

Two-Thirds of Subway System Now Equipped With Contactless Readers

Subway and Bus Rollout Remains On Time and On Budget, Expected To Be Completed By End of Year

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced significant additional progress on its rollout of OMNY, the new contactless fare payment system that will ultimately replace MetroCard in 2023. There are now 310 subway stations – roughly two-thirds of the system's 472 total – that are equipped with contactless OMNY readers which allow customers to pay their fare using contactless bank cards, smart phones, and wearables. The MTA also announced that OMNY installation has been completed 4 on 5 the and lines and that all but one station has received OMNY on the 2 and 3 lines. Every subway station remains on schedule to be equipped with OMNY by year's end.

The entire project remains on time and on budget thanks to the acceleration of work after installation was suspended for nearly six weeks due to Covid-19. Other than the Eastern Parkway-Brooklyn Museum 2,3 station, which is currently undergoing an ADA accessibility upgrade, every single numbered line in the system is now equipped with OMNY validators.

"We've maintained laser focus on this project since the day we launched the public pilot at the end of last May," said OMNY Program Executive Al Putre. "Not even a global pandemic can stop the OMNY express rollout. I'm eager to continue at maximum speed and complete the final third of this game-changing new fare payment system by the end of the year."

OMNY users have shown enthusiastic growth both before and since the beginning of the pandemic. The portion of riders using OMNY at stations equipped with OMNY readers increased 168% since August 2019, and 50% since May 2020 as more customers experience OMNY at both ends of their journeys. Overall, the system has recorded more than 16 million taps since launch. Customers can see the stations where OMNY has been activated at the OMNY website, https://omny.info.

Additional fare options, comparable to the current 7-day and 30-day passes, will be available in the first quarter of 2021, after the activation of OMNY across the entire NYC Transit system.

ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT MTA FARE PAYMENTS AND OMNY:

A list of all subway stations and bus routes where OMNY is currently in use is at this link: https://omny.info/system-rollout

The MetroCard was first tested in the system in 1993, debuting to the larger public in January 1994. All turnstiles were MetroCard-enabled by May 1997 and all buses began accepting it by the end of 1995. Tokens were sold until April 2003 and acceptance was discontinued that May in subway stations and that December on buses.

OMNY readers accept contactless cards from companies such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover, as well as digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and Fitbit Pay.

Following the completion of OMNY installation at all subway turnstiles and on buses, the MTA will introduce all remaining fare options, including unlimited ride passes, reduced fares, student fares, and more.

In 2021, the MTA will introduce an OMNY card at retail locations throughout the New York region.

Also in 2021, the MTA will begin to install new vending machines at locations throughout the system.

Only after OMNY is fully available everywhere MetroCard is today, expected in 2023, will the MTA say goodbye to the MetroCard.

Purchasing your fare with cash will remain an option. Additional info about OMNY is available at https://OMNY.info

  8. Now there a detail mapped about OMNY and it is till the end of August till early September installations:

    august-omny-detailed-map.png

Looks like after August FINALLY Brooklyn is next and then it should be all completed and it should be OMNY wide.  Then MTA should introduce the NEW MTA own OMNY card.   Waiting a long time for that.  Don't want to keep using my credit card for OMNY.  It's convenient YES but still prefer MTA own OMNY card so my bank info does not have to be in their system if you know what I mean..
