M. Friday 1986 replied to EE Broadway Local's topic in New York City Subway
So I was watching this while on Facebook just now of last March's R44 being delivered to the Transit Museum: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151357198333843&set=vb.89895068842&type=3&theater It's a really short video...but one thing I noticed is that 5240 is being pushed into the station by another train. I wonder if that train is a consist of other R44s or a train of R46s? The train does release air so the video ends right before the train gets ready to move in. It's hard for me to tell though. -

With many SMEES and old subway cars being scrapped lately, I have some questions: What’s the deal with R16s 6305 and 6339 at Coney Island Yard? They’ve been at CIY for many years. What is, or were, their purpose? Are they preserved? Spare parts for 6387 or other SMEES? Are they heading for scrap eventually? What’s the status of R27 8145? I know it’s been preserved for the Transit Museum since 2011. Has any work or cleanup been done recently? I wonder when the folks at CCY will move the R40M cars from the far back of the yard. I walked along Bedford Park Blvd yesterday evening and could see how there are plants or weeds starting to grow mid-body around the cars. If it’s being preserved, why not move them in with the preserved Redbirds that were moved there recently? Not long ago I took pictures of some of the preserved cars at 207 Street Yard and other places. I saw R22 Garbage Motor 7486 and it’s been stripped of everything – it’s merely a car body shell now. But it’s been moved about the 215th Street side of the yard for several months, now sitting with the R143 B cars 8278-79. Same as the R17/21 work motor pair at CCY, they’ve been on the same track for more than a decade and they were stripped of some parts years ago in preparation for scrap. Question is, are they really planning on scrapping these three cars, or are there some plans for the cars later on? With their poor conditions, I’d figured they’d be gone by now with many other cars being scrapped before them. The R21 at CCY’s got large plants and shrubs reaching car height now. What’s the status on the R110A set that was being converted into new Pump Cars? Has there been progress since February? What of the other set at 239th Street Yard? Will one car be preserved? Will a R110B car be saved? Thanks in advance for any responses. And my apologies for asking so many questions! - MF '86 -

Hello folks. Sorry if this has been posted previously on these forums, as I've only lurked around these parts for a long time and barely post......but I came across this recently. Has anyone checked this out lately? https://www.facebook.com/r36preservation EDIT: They're trying to save R36WF cars 9400-01 from the scrapper and preserve it for future operation, being its the only Westinghouse pair of their class still remaining...and they seem to be doing some sort of progress. - M.F.
