Once upon a time, it used to be a breeze taking the Conduits from Linden to get to Green Acres during the course of the day - but now, you couldn't pay me to do that.... You can make an argument that it's actually worse than taking the Belt itself at times.... Don't know wth happened in the past decade or so with traffic levels along the service road/Conduits, but I wouldn't subject something coming from Bay Terrace to utilizing the Conduits b/w Springfield & Rockaway..... Even outside of structuring the QT42/43 as commuter locals, I can understand extracting the Q85 (QT43) away from Green Acres....

I see the attempt at addressing that gap (that's even unfulfilled with the current network) btw, but I don't really see too many people around there really taking an easterly/westerly bus for a bus that'd run along Springfield (worth having the QT71 do what's being suggested/inquired)....

Going back to what I was saying about the QT43, even though it wouldn't run to Green Acres like the Q85, it's still rather pointless having it serve the fringe of Rosedale like that (at the LIRR station) though.... It'd serve much of nobody in that neighborhood.... What makes the Q85 useful for Rosedale residents, is that stint along 243rd (although I will admit, the Green Acres branch is used more, if we were to compare the two branches).... Nobody coming off the LIRR over there is thinking about the bus, so if it's a matter of simply turning the bus around, they may as well end the thing at S. Conduit/232nd (last dropoff/first pickup) & use Brookville to turnaround - Since they're doing the whole refraining from overlapping riderbases thing with the QT42/43/45....

Vision Zero, speed cameras, reduced speed limits, intentionally mis-timed lights may have something to do with all that...

On some levels it is kind of surprising how little some know about the other. I was on a Q65 heading towards Jamaica before the pandemic and there were two train operators heading towards the subway. One was heading to Jamaica Center and the other Jamaica-179 St. Guy heading to 179 St gets off at Parsons Blvd and asks the bus driver what bus can get him to 179 St, and the driver said he didn’t know. I know that the Q65 is MTA Bus Company and the Q43 is NYCT, but to not even be aware of what bus goes down Hillside Ave?

Not uncommon for someone who drives/works in a borough that isn't the one they live in. I might not know all the connections out in Brooklyn but I'm always learning something new!

The last I checked bus drivers don't have exceptions to standard traffic lights where there isn't some bus-specific signal. There are bus specific signals at some queue jumps globally but IDK about New York's.

There are some intersections here that give priority to bus traffic in order to jump ahead.

If there's anything that's being taken for granted, it's public transportation period (regardless if you live in the city or the suburbs)... This isn't about not expecting people to feel stressed.... What I'm getting at, is that people get way too accustomed to one itinerary/commute & as cliche as it sounds, public transit isn't guaranteed to pan out the way you want it to 100% of the time.... That isn't to say that constant delays should be tolerated, but to expect perfection every single time? Ridiculous.... There's a reason some of us on here got annoyed with that dude Axis (or whatever his name was) that kept bitching about the Q44 & the Q113/4 on here.....

That's the shit some people (urbanites, suburbanites, w/e) are on & that's what I'm speaking on with this.....

Totally agree with this. Most people don't think before they go all up in arms about a bus not showing up or being late in general.

Most people don't ride a bus from one end to the other. Most won't see where problematic areas are, or they won't know about that car crash that's got a particular intersection jacked up. Buses are always going to be late. Sometimes there isn't a driver to cover a run if someone has to call out. It happens. Yes, people are going to wait double the headway (or even longer as I've experienced during the worst of this pandemic- you see some real angry people.) for a bus, and they won't care but to tell you that they've waited X amount of minutes for a bus.

Been noticing a lot more bus-stop blocking since this corona-thingy.... Yes its always been an issue, but its gotten much worse from March onward.

Traffic/police haven't been enforcing violators of No Parking/No Standing zones as of late...

Protests today are going up Flatbush between Grand Army Plaza (and through downtown Brooklyn to Cadman Plaza). There is also a separate one in East New York. Brooklyn Division truncations (inbound to downtown Brooklyn except B14):

    • B14: Via Blake Avenue (eastbound) and Dumont Avenue (westtbound) instead of Sutter Avenue, between Pennsylvania Avenue and the Cypress Hills Houses
    • B25: Last stop Washington Avenue
    • B26 and B52: Last stop Greene/Carlton Avenues
    • B37 and B103: Last stop Dean Street
    • B38: Last stop Washington Avenue
    • B41: Last stop Empire Boulevard
    • B45: Last stop Vanderbilt Avenue
    • B54: Last stop Vanderbilt Avenue
    • B57/B62: Last stop Farragut Houses
    • B63: Last stop 9 Street
    • B65: Last stop Vanderbilt Avenue
    • B67: Last stop Union Street
    • B69: Suspended until Monday morning

B61 buses were told to terminate at Pier 6 since you left that one out.

I don't understand why some express drivers do not at least enforce the $6.75. That makes no sense to me at all

As they tell us at Zerega:

"You're just paid to move the bus. That farebox shouldn't be your concern. Hit F5, let 'em ride"

Lmao. Guess Gleason gave up on washing. That's usual the kind of thing you see in winter.

The bus wash is currently being upgraded at the depot (definitely needs it), there's only one wash unit available right now. But, the reason why the rims are as dirty as they are is more due to the brake dust that accumulates. I've seen rims get replaced and the ones that do get pulled off the buses are so blackened on the inner part that it looks like it's been painted! It's pretty interesting to see.

Help me understand what that means:

No NYC lifeguards so if you swim at a NYC beach you’re on your own if there’s an incident; or that if you’re on the sand or in the water, NYPD will cute or arrest you?

(I’m from California so even in NorCal if you wanna get in the water, no one’s stopping you unless there’s an environmental hazard.)

The police don't really bother you if you're on the beach or the sand. I've been out there at 3-4 in the morning catching the breeze. Just don't get in the water.

So even with articulates and buses running in 5-10 minute intervals during rush hours, we still get packed buses? Poor Church Avenue.

Traffic can result in buses getting stuck at bus stops. Big issue at the E18th stop.

    Change of topic here;

When I lived in Brooklyn, I lived close by the B35 which, before Jackie Gleason was bestowed the XN60 articulated buses, I'm pretty sure it only ran C40LF's. Even earlier, it had Orion VII's which operated both the local and limited B35. I never expected such an articulated bus to jump on this route, what a change of equipment. Though, it makes sense, this route always had high ridership, I can recall a time where a bus on the B35 was so packed that, per policy, it had to skip stops until the bus acquired some reasonable space. People stuck onto the doors of the bus just so they can get on, I think someone's face was even pushed onto the door, there was absolutely no space.

Even with the articulated buses they could get pretty packed if buses were delayed due to traffic on Church Ave. Happened to me coming down the line a handful of times. I usually get turned around at Kings Highway if it was really bad.

there aren't any TWU or ATU "traditional" territories anymore. shuttle work is assigned by availability. meaning, if/when shuttle work is available in queens division, ATU 1056 gets priority. however if the 3 TA yards can't cover, then the Queens Local 100 (bus company) yards are called. then, JFK/Far Rock (ATU 1179) then, Spring Creek. then, Brooklyn/MaBSTOA. then Staten Island.

in this scenario, seeing as most (if not all) surface transit branches are experiencing low manpower numbers, i don't expect there to be a general pecking order. it'll be strictly about coverage.

I've seen runs for the 7 shuttle at Flushing before!

Speaking of the B43, outside of the termini themselves, what stops are the timepoints on that route?

    Northbound:

Empire and Kingston (Closest stop being Lamont Ct)

    Kingston and Fulton

    Throop and Myrtle

    Graham and Broadway

    Graham and Grand

    Manhattan Ave and Nassau Ave

Southbound is roughly the same with the exceptions

Graham and Debevoise (Closest stop being Cook St)

    Tompkins and Myrtle

    Tompkins and Fulton

    Brooklyn Ave and Empire Blvd

    Washington and Empire

B41 ride was brutal though.... b/o did that thing where they stop at every stop, even though nobody's getting on or off...

It's crazy seeing little traffic on Flatbush Avenue, I bet those B41 paddles have too much time in between points to be a straight shot, same deal with the B43- normally it's a damn struggle to stay on time on Sundays but the past few weeks have been such a breeze you have no options but to slow it down to avoid getting yelled at.

The 2 bus tag-along is a new concept.

Basically method #2 is not social distance friendly and clashes with the new policy of keeping B/Os away from passengers, which more than likely explains the bus shadowing.

As for #1, I don’t know if they’re even training new hires anymore... They’re only doing #2 because there are drivers from all over the place doing runs their depots don’t normally cover (ie: a MV B/O on the Bx3, a WF B/O on the Bx9, a Quill B/O on the Bx12)

The 3/16 class got suspended until further notice, those that were due to start 3/30 that whole class was postponed.

The MTA must have had issues meeting service that day. They had suspended the B16 at some point last week too, but its operating now.

They killed the B16 and B37 for a day. Those of us who interlined with the 16 or 37 were sidelined for that part of our runs. I wonder why that was done sometimes too.

    Brooklyn

B100 went from 5 minutes rush hour, 15 minutes days/nights to every 20 minutes.

BM1-2-3-4 won't have a second bus behind from their Brooklyn terminals AM rush reduced to just one making all stops and PM as well: No split. All of them are on Saturday service with the BM5/QM15 in 1 hour headways.

B67 will not go over the Navy Terminal to Willamsburg. Instead, it's cut back to its regular Downtown Brooklyn terminal.

Also in Brooklyn, everything is running on a Sunday schedule (everyday!), plus there are no reliefs being done on the road. If you get relieved, you gotta finish the route and pull in. If you relieve someone, you gotta make a pull-out from the depot.

During my QCC days, I’ve caught RTS bus #9250 twice. It had express seats. I’ve caught it on the Q43.

I hated riding the suburbans from QCC some days. The buses weren't meant to handle so much people. Getting off was a chore if you were seated far from the doors. I would avoid them if the crowd going to Flushing was big...

Good luck on being fitted for uniforms. First off the order will be incorrect. Secondly, they won’t fit.

It's LIKELY but when I was fitted I got my shipment in batches since certain items were not in stock. Everything was the right size but I didn't get the right caps.

I do not know. my day 7 paper states that I qualified for line training but we have to report to a different depot tomorrow. was at queens village. Have to go to different one tomorrow. I did not get any remarks just a congrats and a pass. but i Beleive it may have something to do with the city being in an emergency.... Ill let you guys know whats up. The superintendent said that things are being done different with my class most likely because of the pandemic.

You usually go to Jamaica Depot for the Nova/Xcelsior training. I wonder what they'll be doing differently. Keep us posted!
