GAgathos Posted March 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 2, 2010 My partner noticed an anomaly in our train time website: http://nexttra.in/subway/search/New+Lots New Lots Avenue technically doesn't run the and train. The reason the and are showing up is because the data indicates a few and trains stop there. Can anyone tell me if these are real? or some kind of mistake? Here are the times (all Weekday) from New Lots Avenue. As you can see, they appear to be rush hour service of some sort... but we can't find evidence of these trains anywhere else. route_id trip_headsign departure_time To New Lots Av 09:17:00 To New Lots Av 09:26:30 To New Lots Av 09:36:00 To New Lots Av 09:48:30 To 241 St 16:21:30 To 241 St 16:34:30 To 241 St 16:53:30 To 241 St 17:36:00 To Dyre Av 05:50:00 To Dyre Av 07:50:30 To New Lots Av 20:32:00 To New Lots Av 20:42:00 To New Lots Av 20:51:30 To New Lots Av 21:02:
GAgathos Posted March 2, 2010 Author Share #2 Posted March 2, 2010 Also, this condition exists in the data for at least the stops between nostrand and new lots
Concourse Express Posted March 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 2, 2010 It's not a mistake; some (2)/(5) trains do run to/originate from New Lots Ave or Utica Ave. Also, on MTA maps when you read the schedule for and trains, there are notes saying "some rush hour trains to/from Utica Ave or New Lots Ave". GAgathos Posted March 2, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted March 2, 2010 Yep I see it now I don't know how we missed that... Still interesting how it's only a handful of trains.
Concourse Express Posted March 2, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 2, 2010 It is indeed interesting; for the record, there are only a handful of trains serving the alternate terminals because of the need to mitigate congestion on the Nostrand Ave branch. This service pattern is (mainly) the result of: 1) Nostrand being unable to handle the peak levels of and service; each service runs 12-15 TPH peak. 2) The way Rogers Junction - the area where the (2)/(5) and the (3)/(4) lines split - is set up, with trains crossing over each other in both directions (see this track map from nycsubway.org for details).
