Parsons is pleased to announce that the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has awarded Parsons a contract to design, deliver, integrate, and install an interoperable Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) system for the city’s 6,250 buses and support vehicles that complies with Project 25 (P25), the public safety radio standard. The TETRA system, which has been used extensively in Europe and recently introduced in the United States, combines dispatching and two-way mobile radio capability, offering fast, reliable, and secure data and voice communications. “Parsons is pleased to be selected for the replacement of MTA’s current 25-year-old bus radio system,” said Michael Johnson, Parsons Group president. “Our global industry experience and coordination/licensing successes with the Federal Communications Commission allow us to deliver an end-to-end, next-generation solution to the MTA that addresses the agency’s technical requirements and meets its high-capacity communication needs across a wide geographic area.” The 58-month contract calls for maintaining the existing radio operations while retrofitting the fleet with new mobile radios. It also calls for providing 1,250 portable radios and the communications infrastructure to support the new system using 35 radio sites. In addition, the contract allows for three 5-year renewal options to provide maintenance and support services.
