SanDisk (now a part of Western Digital) is once again at the forefront of mass-market storage density. A little under a year ago, it announced a 1TB SDXC card which has yet to materialize, but this 400GB MicroSDXC card is expected to ship by the end of the year. In fact, it is available for pre-order at retailers like B&H for $249.99.

The density of this new card suggests that a full-sized SDXC card could feature 3,910GB of storage. A MicroSD-sized card occupies a physical volume of 165.0mm². A full-sized SDXC card, on the other hand occupies 1,612.8mm²; that’s 9.8 times the physical volume of a MicroSD-sized card. Multiply that by 400GB and we get 3,909.8GB.
