Found this footage I took from when I was 10 years old of the last fan trip that the gate cars ran on. Quite a different experience from the standard R32 or even the R9s.

Really great video! Why don't they run in excursions? Could have many excursions in summer, BMT Standards, gate cars, IRT Low-Vs R1-9s, R38/R40/R16/R11 like the one they are running.

Really great video! Why don't they run in excursions? Could have many excursions in summer, BMT Standards, gate cars, IRT Low-Vs R1-9s, R38/R40/R16/R11 like the one they are running.

The gate cars can't carry passengers underground, and they also can be quite fickle. If you listen in the video you can hear that they had to reset a motor in one of the cars when they stopped on the middle track at Howard Beach.

 

The BMT standards are still getting worked on so they can't run excursions with them yet.
