  1. Nice, congrats. What did the physical fitness obstacle course consist of?

Thanks how far along are you?

    Open a sash window 2x

    Open a weighted door 2x

3 laps climbing onto and off of a elevated platform using the attached stanchions and ladder. They're @ or close to the exact height of an actual engine 2x

Unscrew by hand 16 nuts, bolts, and washers from one area and screw them into another while on elevated platform

8 laps on this walkway designed to resemble walking along the tracks. It's purposely uneven, has raised areas, and includes a third rail. And every 3rd lap with final one you have to sidestep off and back onto walkway before finishing lap.

  2. Just curious, have any one heard anything back from anybody about continuing in the process? Or are we all playing the same long waiting game?

I've done interview, attention test, and did the drug test/ physical/ "obstacle course" Unless something impossible occurs next time I contacted should be a job offer.

  3. Congrats to everyone so far. I stumbled across the email for the attention test while deleting old emails. Immediately Called the number and they were kind enough to reschedule me for next week.

Tho she did mention they are calling in a specific order. Dont know if it meant with the test or the entire process so take that with a grain of salt. Best of luck guys

  4. Yeah same for me. I called the guy who handled my background check and he said that it means they couldn't get in touch with anyone. I submitted my w2s for them so I'm good. Did you?

No still waiting for them to arrive. I called as well I don't think they got what u was asking. Still unsure if consider is good, or means I'm in limbo.

  5. My background is getting delayed by like a week now. Agency said they needed tax info from almost a decade ago. Shot over to the IRS website but it keeps claiming it can't verify I am who I say I am. WTF?! So now I have to do it thru the mail. From 20 minute to 5 plus business days. ????

  6. Congrats to the both of y'all and everyone else who passed. I just found out that I unfortunately didn't!!! Oh well on to next one!!! Keep us posted on how things work out!!

Sorry to see that man. From our PMs I know you to be a real cool dude. And I know the moves your trying to make on your end so I wish you much luck in those endeavors. Filing for subway TO in December keep an eye out.

  7. You would think with the potential salary you can make with this job that you would get there extremely early. The woman who was giving the directions mentioned that even if you were to get the job with MTA, you CANNOT blame train issues if youre late even if it's on the line you will be operating!!!

100 percent agree. Why add that needless stress to your commute?

  8. @JV620 It's a real pity you didn't come out. While I felt comfortable with my verbatim I didn't have it on lock and just hoped it'd be like the LIRR where as long as you clearly showed you understood the word or got your signals they'd give leeway. Never expected multiple choice. If you take RTO train operator and get called. I would recommend moving closer not necessarily into the city tho. If you end up on the number lines most of your reporting will be upper Manhattan or Bronx. Letter lines can be any Boro and you rarely ever finish where u start.

What up Saniter?! also good to put a face to a name.

@everyone else. I started off section 1 with a smile on my face thinking "what a joke!" By the end of that section I was praying plz don't test us on stuff like this anymore I'm gonna fail. Two helicopters on the moon? Seriously?! Lol. I didn't even finish lol.

Section 2 I flew thru it that was great that they made it that way.

Section 3 is the 1st time in my life that reading comprehension actually gave me such trouble there were more questions than I thought could be the right answer.

And the personality test? I'm intelligently honest.

  9. Thanks for the welcome NJT. Appreciate that.

I'm curious about how you are making out with the studying and how any others are on here as well? Feel free to chime in on how it is coming. Truth be told, I am having a bit of a struggle with trying to grasp some of the definitions. I have read, re-read, and re-re-read them and it just is not sticking yet. I have taken blank pieces of paper and written, and re-written, and re-re-written the definitions down to the terms and still nada  I have Googled different methods for trying to learn to grasp verbatim if we are to assume that they will want the answers in that respect. One method I read about was to try and take the first letter of each word in the definition of the term and try and "connect-the-dots" that way. Has not really helped  I read somewhere on some other thread that if you do not have great study habits, to really not even bother trying to take the test :( I still have some time before I decide if I am going to make the trek to Manhattan to try and take the test. I'm going to keep plugging away and try and do the best that I can in preparation for the 14th. As it gets closer to the date, I will have a better idea where I stand. But one must learn to crawl before he/she can walk, and babble before he/she can speak [emoji14] And so, with that said, I must keep trying to learn these definitions! :) On the flip side, I am getting the signals better than the definitions! How do you figure that one?! [emoji38] It is the "tell it back to me verbatim" that has me stumped.

But anyhow, I was just curious, how are you (all) making out?

I have the complete reverse. Im far stronger and confident with definitions than signals (some just wont stick).

I assure you you are not the only person ive spoken with whose studying isn't flowing as smooth as you would like and as such is wondering if they should even bother making the trip. To you and everyone else reading this coming for the test. The night before if you feel you honestly gave it your best to study this material yet your still unsure. Remember that old saying its best to try and fail than to not try at all.

To me "bad study habits" is one of two things. (1 proper study time wasn't invested(which obviously isnt your case). Or (2 time was invested, a person still failed the same material at least twice yet didn't change their study method or did 1.

  10. My first post on the NYC Transit forum site. A lot of great information here.

I also received an invitation email to take a test for this next month as well. I will actually be coming from out of state (MA) to be exact to take this test. Jokingly speaking, I bet a few people might be snarling about an outsider coming in from another state that is not NY or NJ, lol. Anyhow, a solid background in coach bus driving here in the SE part of MA might be why I got an invitation since coach operators are always on the go as well. I was actually not expecting an invite TBH. I realize though that I am up against it in some ways. I would think that I have even more pressure to score say a 95 at the very least or better than that, being from out of state and what have you.

I called the number in the first e-mail. Then when I called to confirm and verify my attendance spot, they sent me the second e-mail with the time at the Hotel. I have my 9 page study guide which contains a lot of information in it. I have been able to take a lot of the information and put it on flash cards and it has helped. Study, study, study! =)

I am not sure if anyone would have the answer to this but my question is does anyone know if this test will be 'definition given and fill in the word' type of thing, or would you think that we are going to have to write out the definition to the term down to the T as it is on the study guide? I have pretty much figured that it is not going to be True/False, or multiple choice.

Best of luck to all! :)

Welcome! Good to have another member. I know how you feel in regards to the email. Not only did i not expect it. I wouldnt have known about it if not for someone here mentioning they got one. And even then i didnt see it so i assumed i wasn't selected till i stumbled across it almost a week later while cleaning out inbox.

Now as for your question based on what I've read in our lirr counterparts thread. It's seems like it'd be best for all of us to assume the test will be free hand verbatim on everything they sent us. Truckie tho is a cool MN employee who visits when they have a chance so next time they do. We will all get a definitive answer

  11. I don't know what LIRR does so I can not compare. MNR's process (at a minimum) is initial hiring test, background check, panel interview, medical testing (their doctor), physical ability test and if you get through all that you get called with a start date. Day one is usually orientation (filling out paperwork, having various MNR rep's talk to you, etc). Day 2 is the start of engine school.

Thanks for the info. After reading thru the conductors forums. It seems months can past between each step. Is that the norm?

When i got hired for BO it was initial test, got called following year but when they started hiring process it was about 2 months then training began.

  12. From most recent LIRR Loco Eng posting:

    Training Program:

Phase 1: Training consists of a six (6) week non-compensated training program. Class days and times will be determined, in part, based on availability of class participants and instructors. For the duration of Phase 1, participating LIRR employees will remain in their current position and must attend training classes on their own time and NOT on Company time. Phase 1 training will include quizzes and examinations, which must be passed in order to move on to the next phase of training.

Phase 2: Training consists of a minimum of 12 months full-time compensated training. Upon commencement of Phase 2, current LIRR employees will officially transfer to the position of Engineer Trainee. Phase 2 Training will include qualifying exams on the operating rules, physical characteristics of the LIRR Transportation Services Department, air brake, and train handling. Failure to obtain a passing grade on the mandatory exams will result in termination from the Training Program.

What i'm trying to find out is if MNRR has the same type of training program because if it does then that might disqualify me because I just started a new job as a B/O with NJT and that's going to have crazy hours which will make it difficult to attend!!:(

No it wont. Im able to still pull up the MNRR info. Nowhere in there does it mention any part (thats considered us being in training) having you study on your time uncompensated. Plus i asked that same q to a MN employee and they said thats a LI thing however that was since the last time MN posted which was sometime last year

  13. LIRR just listed the locomotive Engineers position on the MTA WEBSITE if anyone is interested.

How does the phase 1 work. I get its on my time, just trying to get a better understanding. Your given study material and come in when you can at least once a week to be tested on it? Does that sum it up or is there more to it?

  14. i got question monday will be day 5 form me and we will be in Manhattan. I asked my instructor this question but he say i can not answer u this couse we will experience that. So question is going cross town thru central park overpass say 10.10 hight and my bus is 11.3. I know my bus is to high for that according to sign but i know bus go thru thete. What should i tell to my instructor when we will go there?

Say that then I did during training. "11 3 under 10 10. But I know its safe bcuz I observe other NYCT buses using the road." In that situation tho I dont think the 10 10 is the overall height but the height at the lowest points of the arch.

Also that isn't that a big a deal compared to the turn you need to do to get onto that street if entering from the west side of the park.

  15. Don't know if this has been already posted but there are two more express headed for SI, one is the X20 so far its suppose to go from sand lane and hylan into the city that was presented to SI rep. The other got the go ahead. So they are making the times and etc now dunno when it goes into effect but it will add a Super Express to the X1 cutting the current amount of stops on the SI end from 44 to 14. Union still not sure if they want to send some or all to 23rd or all to CPS
