  1. On #1, can you specifically tell me why the Q service change would "not be the best thing to do"? Just curious.
  2. Thank you. On #2, there has to be contingency plans when there are service interruptions, but I understand what you are saying. That switch could have been useful, but then again, there are several others as well--no need to rehash that.
  3. 1. I still don't understand what you are trying to say here. 2. Thanks for the clarification. Why did they remove them??? Wow! See #2 above.
  4. I am sorry sir, but can you be specific? Huh? Q trains have terminated at Atlantic Av. I know, because I have taken some that have. This was done during track work and such. I don't know about that...we'll agree to disagree on this one.
  5. Depends on what you define as "works". The delays on that leg RIGHT NOW can be unbelievable at times, especially during evening rush hours. Trust me on this, as I ride Broadway lines very frequently. I have a few horror stories about this. My view is "why add more delays?" I just didn't want a ripple effect that would delay Astoria and QB riders, that's all. Just having the and would greatly simplify things. People can get the Q at Atlantic and/ or DeKalb across the platform. This would also help the Brighton riders get more consistent and reliable service since it would have no tracks to share or bridges to cross (lol). Sure, they would have to get off their train in Brooklyn, but they would have NO LACK of transfers. Also, you can have a person who wanted the in Manhattan just stay on the and and transfer in Brooklyn or take an IRT at Times Square or 14th st to Atlantic Center. I just thought this would be the easiest thing to do.
  6. The Broadway line would have to be all local through the tunnel and in Manhattan. I wouldn't have three lines going through, just two. The simplest thing I could think of is having the N and R both go through the tunnel....The train would be cut short to Dekalb or Atlantic center. The can go express in Brooklyn. Brighton Riders will be pissed, but three lines can't clog up the tunnel...there would be too many delays. That would ripple to Queens. If push comes to shove, then have it sent to Chambers st via the line....I believe this was a service pattern some decades ago. But I would personally cut it to DeKalb Av or Atlantic Center. At least at Atlantic, they can grab the IRT. This will provide consistent service along the Brighton line and a minimum amount of delays. As for sixth av, I would have a crossover track built before Grand st so that trains can terminate there. If that is not possible, then trains terminate at West 4th st. The will still run but only 5-6 TPH to help the along CPW. will be express to the Bronx. In Brooklyn, a shuttle will run to Atlantic Terminal. It will use the express tracks along 4th av to not clog the and . trains will run at all times to supplement the along QB.
  7. good question: Brooklyn bound trains will continue their run to become shuttle trains..others will go to the yard. The ones already in Manhattan will run along the .
  8. is cut back to shuttle (Metropolitan to Myrtle) is extended to 71st Continental is rerouted via the from Roosevelt Av to West 4th street. Passengers who use the 5th AV-53rd st and Lexington Av stops must walk up 6 blocks to get the at 59th st.
  9. Let's see: runs in two sections: Broadway Junction to Jamaica Center and Marcy Av to 95 st (on the R line). This is to give commuters access to trains at Jay st. suspended runs in two sections: Forest Hills to Marcy AV (assuming trains are allowed to terminate there) and from Metropolitan Av to Myrtle Av). If trains can't go into Marcy or Myrtle, then Forest Hills to Essex st and Metropolitan to Central.
  10. Oh really? It would appear that the Bridge was only really meant to serve the Broadway line and the Jamaica line--not the 6th av express lines which came later. That's where a lot of the issues come in. I also really don't like how the Brighton line is designed north of Church Av. There's just not a lot of options if there is a service change. Oh well--nothing really you can do about that.
  11. ^^^ ha! there were more problems this morning out of DeKalb! suspended. 205st to Church Av (along Culver line)...customers can access get off at 4th Av station for Brooklyn service. Astoria-Whitehall st and Coney Island to Atlantic Center runs normally, headways increased to 15 trains per hour to account for the 15 allowed through Dekalb. Coney Island-Atlantic Center Riders would have to transfer at Atlantic Center for other trains or hopefully be able to get seat on a packed . I really don't see any other way around this.
  12. ^^^^ LOL. I meant one that had text insets and colors explaining the route and the stops: kind of like what you would see in a publication (adobe illustrator). Sometimes, presentation is everything. Thanks.
  13. I will contact the MTA. Hopefully they will listen. I will make a clear map of the route and write a letter.
  14. So I will have the stops at: Broadway Junction Broadway/Rockaway Avenue Broadway/Halsey St Broadway/Gates Makes a right on Gates then Gates/Wilson Gates/Myrtle and Wyckoff Avs Gates/Forest av makes a left on Forest then Forest and Metropolitan Makes a right on Metropolitan, left on Eliot then Eliot and Fresh Pond Road Eliot and 69th st Left on 69th then 69th and LIE 69th and Calamus/51st avs 69th and Queens Blvd 69th and roosevelt then finally Roosevelt Av Jackson Heights SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN!!!! 15 Stops and VERY GOOD RIDERSHIP--people are definitely going to take it at Myrtle and Wyckoff and Bway Junction to get into Queens. I see this used very well in the Queens portion of the route as there is sort of a transportation "hole" in that leg. You could possibly omit a couple stops like Wilson Av and one of them along Broadway. This seems like an efficient, relatively quick route. I think a trip should be 45 minutes or so and well under the hour and change the trip will take by subway and local buses.
  15. ^^^^^^ Excellent work! Now, I am going to propose this to the MTA. How does that sound?
  16. Ok, much clearer now. I will rework it.
  17. Thank you again. Buses are associated with being slow, and rightfully so. If you advertise a semi-express service making not too many stops, that might draw people. As for ridership: health care workers, food service workers etc. People might want to check out the OUTSTANDING malls and shops along Queens BLVD. You really don't have this in East NY (sure you have shops on Pennsylvania and Flatlands, but nothing like Queens). You don't have this in Bushwick except along Broadway. Why not give these residents more options?
  18. Well, thank you for an explanation. But as I said, service to Gateway Mall was only an idea. The core of the route would be from Bway junction to Roosevelt-Jackson Heights and would make limited stops. It would make about 10 or 11 stops only. Just because it overlaps for part of its route doesn't make it "unnecessary". If that were the case, then several NYC bus routes would be "unnecessary". As I wanted to say to the previous commenter, why would someone want to transfer from a local to a local to a local to complete the trip that one semi-express bus can male? A "gap" as you call it would be filled as there is no straight route going to where I proposed. As for ridership, I am sure, in this case, if you build it, they will come. The route the other commenter proposed would get good ridership too. You will be surprised how many people from Brooklyn want to get to Queens. There needs to be more North-South Brooklyn Queens routes. I was just wondering why the commentor objected to my route even though his route does many of the same things mine does, but goes east to Continental, that's all.
  19. Again, the route you proposed is very similar to mine. What makes it a "better alternative to service"? And why wouldn't "No one wants to go that far on a bus" apply to your route as well?
  20. Can you clarify that comment please? I don't understand. And can you respond to the question I left you with? I edited my comment, so you didn't catch it in time.
  21. I would really love the triboro rx, but since this is a bus thread, I proposed this route. To speed things up, it would make not to many stops. And anyway, subway would probably actually be slower than this route. It is a ROYAL PAIN to get to the Queens BLVD line from Brooklyn unless you live along the . Sure people want to travel from Northern Brooklyn to Queens--there is need.....People do it all the time, and it takes them FOREVER by subway because they will have to go through Manhattan for the most part. The point was not just speeding up Pennsylvania Av service: it is to provide a link to areas like East NY, Bushwick, Ridgewood and Jackson Heights. The Gateway mall extension was only a part of it. My original idea was for Bway Junction-Roosevelt Av service. Just as a side note of your criticism: your proposed route looks almost like the one I proposed, but goes to Continental instead. So how would your criticisms of "There is no need for this route" and "No one want's to travel between those areas on a bus" work? I am a little puzzled.....Can you clarify your objections please?
  22. I have an idea....I was thinking about the lack of Brooklyn-Queens NORTH to SOUTH routes and I had an idea of making a semi-express route (like the B103) that would go from Roosevelt-Jackson Heights station to Broadway Junction (or to be ambitious, Starrett City and Gateway Mall.. It would parallel the B20, Q58 and Q18 routes. If it goes from Gateway Mall to Jackson Heights, here would be the following stops: Gateway Mall Travels on Shore Road, turns right on Pennsylvania Av: Pennsylvania Av/Seaview (Starrett City) Pennsylvania Av/Flatlands Av (Starrett City) Pennsylvania Av/Livonia Av Turns left on Broadway: Broadway Junction Broadway/Decatur st Turns right on Decatur st: Decatur st/ Either Wyckoff av or wilson av (or both) myrtle av/61st Turns left on Fresh Pond Rd: Fresh pond road Fresh pond rd/metropolitan av Fresh pond road/grand av Turns right on Grand Av: Grand Av/69th st 69th st/Calamus av Roosevelt/Jackson Heights There would be no shortage of customers as workers from Gateway as well as ENY residents would love a quick ride to Bway Junction. Some who work in Queens would probably stay on that bus to Queens, shaving possibly as much as an hour off their commutes. Home Health Care workers would have a much easier commute, that's for sure. The lack of useful North-South Brooklyn to Queens routes is mind-boggling. I would also create a semi-express route to Queens Blvd that goes through Bed Stuy--It would terminate at Nostrand Av on the and and parallel the B44, B48 and Q59 routes and turn on 69th st and again terminate in Jackson Heights. Criticism?
  23. Hmm.... simply terminates at Church Av.... The Brighton line becomes elevated after Newkirk, so I would simply have the and terminate at Newkirk. The can run via the for a reroute. I would have extra service....some trains would loop around Coney Island and terminate at Brighton Beach on the . There's going to be lots of shuttle bus service.
  24. This is getting crazy!!! LOL! There's really no where for these lines to go. 207 st-14th st local, Chambers-Queens local. suspended © suspended 205 st-34th st, Express, Broadway/Lafayette-Coney Island via Bridge, 4th Av local Jamaica Center-14th st, Queens Blvd Express, 8th av local 179th St-34th st or 14th st, if possible, Broadway/ Lafayette-Coney Island (Culver) Continental-Church (to replace and assist ) turns into brown M, terminates at 9th av
  25. Oh wow! I guess this means 8th av will be EXTREMELY BUSY. Good scheduling and signaling will be VITAL. Same suspended. via 8th av (express) will run as Brighton Local to Coney Island, replacing the . Will resume local after 59th st. via 8th av (express). Will run as 4th av express to Coney Island. Both trains switch at West 4th st. extended to Euclid Av, local replacing the . 8th Av local. Switches at W4th st and goes to Queens via 53st (along ). So yes, this means 3 express trains from w4th st to 59th st. Gonna be problematic, and slow, but it has to happen. *****As an alternative, suspend theE and have either the R or G go to Jamaica Center..they can transfer to the for express service. You can now have the B run local over 8th av. The A will then have to run local in Brooklyn. There will be a special that goes from 42st (6th av line) through the 63st tunnel to Queensbridge and Roosevelt Island Continental AV- Church Av to help out Queens BLVD. extended to Bay Ridge to replace (like after 2001), all local. Either that or have a brown M train. same--gonna be CRUSH LOADED with people making transfers. 14th st-Metropolitan AV Astoria-Times Square, 14th st-Coney Island, local via Whitehall (Q)Suspended 71 Continental-Times Square, local, with increased service. 42nd St shuttle will run 24/7 (3-4 minute intervals) 242-42st local and 14th st-South Ferry local 241 st-42 st local and Brooklyn College-14 st local. suspended Woodlawn-Grand Central-local, New Lots-Union Square, local. 241 st/Dyre-Grand Central-express (6)Pelham Bay -42nd st-local extra service. I thought about this deeply and wanted to minimize service interuptions as much as possible. Didn't do bus service.
