  1. I am currently an NYC taxi driver with a few points on my driving record. I am very interested in changing to bus operator but I am concerned about the points. Does anyone know the policy for points on record? How many are allowed? Any help would be great. Thank you

your allowed up to 4 points on your license anymore than that and you'll be told to come when your points are down they won't even let you continue with the hiring process. Even if you went to a driving school for the points back they pull your driving abstract.
  2. Seriously these exams aren't that difficult to feel the need to not feel prepared. I've taken several of them and passed with good scores without studying one day. Only real TA exams you need to study for are promo exams because they expect you to actually have knowledge of the job you're trying to promote to. For OC exams they're just trying to see if you can comprehend information relayed to you correctly.

I work for the city and the promotional exam was so hard for my title l our union had to offer classes for people who wanted tutoring. Now I can understand buying a study book for a promotional exam if they have one. It's just basic stuff on open competitive. Just take your time double check you answers. I have never bought or study for a open competitive exam.

  3. They last group out of 8094 will be done by the end of the month. Next month they will move onto the promotional list. So we still have some waiting to do. We haven't even gotten list numbers yet which is usually when they will start calling people off the list. Meanwhile keep your health in order and stay out of trouble. Take care of your parking or traffic tickets. Stay positive and it will come.

  4. Yes that's very true. Not only that those books just have a series of questions with outdated terms, with the answers in the back of the book. But they don't explain to you why they're right or wrong. So that doesn't help you in the least bit. Because they don't explain any policies or procedures. Plus they questions they ask are far harder than any questions ions they'll ever ask on the exam.

I had a friend get one for the past conductor exam. We looked over it and I told him not to rely on that test book because the questions were crazy and hard to understand. When he took the exam he failed it and, None of those questions from the book were on the test nor did it really prepare him for it. It's just a waste of time and money.

  5. Whatever you do on the road test SECURE THE BUS AND GET OUT THE SEAT AND CHECK OUTSIDE THE BUS REAR BEFORE YOU DO STRAIGHT BACKING AND PARALLEL PARKING

If you don't it's automatically failure. Also make sure you know your pretrip

Oh yeah we worked on that yesterday and my instructor told me the same thing. I did both with no issues.

  6. I hope that they swing back through the list again in March. I'll have my CDL license by then and I will be ready. Been parking the bus with my instructor and, I have been nailing it perfect just have to keep calling out my hazards and, i'll be fine. My instructor said I should pass based on what he has seen so far. I am taking my road test out in syosset Long lsland on feb 7th.

  7. I am on a medical hold, but now have cleared everything with my doctor. Wrote to Ms, Chestnut asking when I should come back to Livingston, but no reply. Can I just show up there on a weekday morning?. Hoping to get into the class in March if there's one.

yeah I would show up. You don't want to delay your process.
  8. I was called back in November but have to wait until the end of January because of an insurance lapse I had 3 yrs ago (it clears my abstract in the end of January) my list # is in the 1700s

Okay, mine is in the 1400's so we're both looking to be called back again.

  9. We all have our own unique situations. I already have my CDL. I wish they have a class ASAP so I can go in already lol.

I'm miserable at my current job right now. Oh well, patience is a virtue...

Oh trust me I know the feeling. I was call already but, had to think really hard if I wanted to go in with just a permit but man did I feel like I was ready.

  10. Not only that, but knowing your stuff as well, such as pre-trip (both interior & exterior), calling out hazards, watching for your tail swing when making turns, etc.

Of course. By my 4th lesson I should be good. I I have found a ton of videos for the pre-trip inspection that is perfect.
  11. Offhand, has anyone checked out 1st Choice Driving School in Brooklyn? The reason why I'm asking is because not only do they have rear engine buses (yes, you read that correctly), but their CDL instructors are also NYC Transit Bus Operators as well. Although I drive the Queens College Shuttle Bus, I still might go to them for 1 or 2 lessons just as a refresher, in order to avoid what happened back in February of 2014.

That also includes the "handouts" as well, which includes the pre-trip, correct? Just want to be on the safe side...

    yes it's correct.
