  1. Yep nvm!! The OTO is used for the AVA and whatever OTO is left over, goes on the end of the year check.
  2. Yea thats another good fact. Working RDOs during probation is a no no. The less time your on the job during probation the better. Plus the AVAs are awesome to have if you want a few days off if you can get em. Also if you have AVA hours left over you get a check at the end of the year. Which im sure will be taxed straight to hell.
  3. Thats def true. I know when training is done I def wanna work some RDOs. You can bank those OT hours for AVAs. Which is def a huge plus. This guys slick over here haha
  4. You dont have to totally sacrifice your social life. Its not like your workin 7 days a week. Youll have atleast one day to do something. I mean we'll bust our asses for 5 days and pick up alot of hours but its a small price to pay when you pick a legit schedule to work with. Plus think of all the OT that may be available as well.
  5. Well now you can get two pensions once you get hired lol
  6. Yea it shouldnt be too long till you get it. Im near 250 and I start 12-17. Thats true too when you dont like what youre doing you gotta change it up. Then you mess up on the job cuz u dont care and so on and so forth and who knows you may wind up getting fired and whatnot
  7. Lol i guess we confused each other. Are u taking the T/O job? Or are you on already? The pay is better as a carpenter though. Why did you decide to change careers, or are you?
  8. You said your payrate is 44 and change an hr. i did a 44 even per hour times 80 hrs for every two weeks. That gave me roughly a $3500 paycheck i believe. You said you take home 1800-2000 every two weeks. So that gave me the $1500 in taxes they take out..........nvmmm thats the TO pay lol
  9. So that means theyre taking out about 1,500 in taxes every 2 weeks. This govt is absolutely disgusting.
  10. Yea thats true. But hey if theyre not smart with their money not your problem right? And not mine either. Im planning on a 40 hr a week budget max. If I get OT, then its an added bonus. If you live in your means then this is a great job to have and youll have a good bit of money when you retire. If not than oh well not my problem.
  11. How are some people going to get screwed?
  12. I broke it down like this because I was thinking the same thing. Schoolcar is 40 hours a week at $30.03 an hour. Which equals 1201.20 a week. You get paid bi weekly so thats 2402.40 minus the 567,456.76% in taxes so you come home with $42.16. Lol jk probably around 15-1700 every two weeks. Also you may get a few hrs of OT in schoolcar but I cant or wont confirm that because IDK
  13. Gotta love the govt. they dont work and they get paid by all the people that do work lol
  14. I can only imagine the taxes they take out of your check. Especially when OT kicks in
  15. Lol you might have scared me for a sec there saying that.
  16. Idk who this Dan guy is but it was pretty humorous that he said it was all true. I also remember you saying how much top pay is for a T/O. I still havnt found info on that yet btw
  17. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT all of this is true. They HAVE TO pay you if youre an extra. Even if you dont work youll get your 8 hours. My friend got paid when he was an extra and didnt get work. About the other stuff Im not going to say yes or no because I dont know. When it gets to your turn though whenever they call, take it. Its kinda hell when you first start being on the extra extra but it is what it is. I heard you get a chance at alot of OT when you first start but like I said you will get paid for being an extra. Dont get discouraged by what you "heard" and the guy above me saying its all true. My friend who works in the MTA told me to watch what you read in the forums because some people make stuff up to discourage u from taking the job but in here is very reliable. Theres people you can trust with their info but not everyone is going to tell you the truth.
  18. So Dave, since i live in Staten Island, which would be the best division for me to pick??
  19. Its a combo of everything. People no showing for whatever reason. Failing drug tests, getting put on medical hold etc etc. My list is 249 and Im in the 12-17 class. Idk when the first OC class was but theyre already up to my number so it shows how fast theyre going thru it
  20. Yea I do. I know the system isnt as reliable as it used to be. So if anything happens I can always drive in. But otherwise ill drive to the ferry and take the boat in and whatnot
  21. Ok Im sorta following ya. So what would be the best bet for me since I live in Staten Island? Div A or Div B?? I Dont wanna travel so much but if worst comes to worst so be it. Ill take what I can get. Im not gunna give up my position because of an extra 30 mins of travel time.
  22. Seniority?? Were all training. Noone has more seniority than anyone else. Unless they go by list #
  23. Really? I thought if you picked division A its number lines and you work in Manhattan. But im guessing since a good bit of Manhattan trains go through bronx and queens Id assuming the Yards are there. And also, how do they determine who picks divisions first? I know they have 40 at a time for classes and they split em up. After that i have no idea how they do the splitting up into divisons.
  24. Definitely Division A since I live in Staten Island
  25. Not necessarily. I was outta there by 1 yesterday. They only have 7-10 train operators going for their medical each day from what it seems. I saw the list and it was only 7. There are other people for other jobs as well. Also the regular employees who have to get a medical once a year on their bdays. It wasnt bad though since there are 4 rooms. One for EKG, hearing, vision and blood pressure. When one or two people go to 1 room others go to another room. It sounds chaotic but it went very smooth. I was only there like 5.5 hours. After you get cleared, you go back to the large waiting area wait for an interviewer. He looks through all the paperwork asks a few questions like if you were convicted or have outstanding moving violations. Then you get your picture taken and fingerprinted (deduction for the fee is on your first check $91.50). After that you get sworn in then get your pic taken one more time for you pass which you receive at orientation which will be at 130 Livingston ave at 8 am. Good luck to everyone who gets called hope to see you guys or gals there on the 17th!
