  1. I have a feeling that the R188 will test on the 7 line in Mid to late May since recently I heard the test train team talking about the rail comparison of the test track and the service track at Gun Hill RD on Thursday. If only taken a picture of that event.

  2. off topic.. No... Because all I.R.T cars including new cars R142A/ so called R188 must be tested on I.R.T main divison where they get delivered on main i.r.t ( interborough rapid transit )that delivering to Unionport Yard. divison. Not BMT/IND divison tested their by mistake.. Where they should been tested in Dyre Avenue Branch where there been first tested. They were first called R142A.. Not R160 tested in Broad Cahnnel.

the MTA sent the the cars 7211-7215 to the Pitkin Yard for testing on the Broad Channel track after the conversion, there is pictures revealing the location

  3. this was on my mind for a while, does anyone thinks that the test track at Broad channel contains the CBTC equipment for the R188 testing making the process more faster and already on the 7 train, because the Dyre Ave Line test track is having CBTC equipment being install few weeks ago and we all know what Sandy did to the Broad Channel tracks. give me your opinions,

  4. Hey you know what that means though 7869 probably got trucked to Corona Yard we have about 2 months before the first R188s go in revenue on the (7),

No new cars are able to go directly to Corona because they have to be tested before sending to the 7 line.

  5. If anyone's interested, There's a 6 car R188 Consist running up and down the (2) line on the express track. There's also the remainder 5 cars at E180 yard and a 11 car train at Unionport yard sitting next to the R28-R36 work train. Would be a nice video if someone caught it running down the express track on the (2)

when is this happening so I could cancel my travel plan and record this with some shots

  6. Ok. You think can Corona Yard can handle 506 R188 cars & additional R62A??? If R142A were to return to it mainline... Will it be much more eaiser for Corona Yard that home of 7 line. Yes. There are handling 400 cars of R62A.. Corona Yard is in Queens a I.R.T divison. Not in the Bronx moslty IRT divison.. Corona Yard does not have space to handle 506 R188 cars or additonal set R62A.

The Corona Yard can handle 506 R188 cars, the extension project included tail tracks in case there isn't tracks available at the yard during off-hours and the weekends, lets face it there are maintenance trains using a few tracks at Corona.

  7. What would be a good idea, at least while the cars are on the 7, is to have an easier way to quickly distinguish between local and express on the side signs.

Doesn't really matter much to me since I board and get off at stops where it doesn't matter, but I'm always able to see whether its a (7) or a <7> just by looking at the LEDs. On the 142/a one has to actually watch the side sign change readings to figure out if its a local or express, and those few seconds can make a difference in making or missing the train.

Perhaps a new service number would easily take care of that if the display isn't modified to show circles and diamonds, since the number is easily visible.

Disclaimer: I know this probably won't get done because of cost issues, but just an idea.

Another idea is to use color backlight for local and express on the area where the upward rectangle LCD sign where #7 is display, any thoughts if this is good idea or not?

  8. The testing for the R188 on the 7 will approximately start after the completion of the servers installation at Junction Blvd. The testing will be from Main St Flushing-74 St Broadway since beyond 74 St (except from the Steinway tunnels to Times Square) the signals are not replaced by the new CBTC signals since 2008. Anyone give any thoughts to this.
