  1. The freight train has nothing to do with them. Nothing is "going on." The M8s that derailed on the Metro-North derailed because this country's railroad regulations are written by idiots, so we have 150,000 lb. "modern" EMUs plowing down the ROWs on the New Haven branch, in case they run into a mile-long freight train along the way. Yes, turns out when you run 8-car trains of carriages that each weigh as much as a TGV power car, rails get snappy. The train I'll give you. Otherwise, "What's going on" makes no sense. Not like this is a recurring problem like the 5000 series problems WMATA had.
  2. Yes, I realize that. And for the cost it would have greatly increased the flexibility of those R179s, rather than the current set-up where the is made 480-foot-long trains for the next 4 decades and no other lines can use the R179s other than the BMT eastern division lines.
  3. BALLS You're right. And it's too late to edit the post now. ^DUMBASS, it's B division. A is the IRT.
  4. Still think it should've been the other way around with mostly 5-car units (so they could use them anywhere on the A division and not just the ) and some 4-car units for the / to retire the R42s.
  5. 4250 had a weird, incredibly loud, buzzing sound on it today. From the inside of the bus it was loud as hell. I can't even think of what was making the sound. Wasn't a high-pitch. Very loud, sometimes would tone down, sometimes tone up (but not in sequence with the diesel motor, completely independent). Guessing something to do with A/C system? First time I've ever heard this on an NG.
  6. I feel like purchasing more R160's from the start (to make sure everything older than R46s could retire when delivery finished) would've been a good idea. Still, at least R68s on a happened, so there's that.
  7. So I guess we can conclude that the problem on those R142As on the is a mix of the initial design and bad maintenance. Any word from employees on here if the R188 transition has maybe fixed any of that with the first batch of conversions??
  8. Either Westchester Yard did a shit job with maintenance, or the initial build quality was ass. I hated the because of that.
  9. An X28 did that shit once. I was there early and didn't care much since I was dozing off, but I'd guess the people who usually try and catch that scheduled run might've been pissed since the guy was like 4-5 minutes early off the schedule time. EDIT: And that time the BM3 (cause I wondered which would get me home faster, what with living between the two) came pretty much very late or early. It was like 5 minutes late (or 5 minutes early) and ran both midtown and downtown portions for some reason when the one I was waiting for was supposed to be midtown only on the schedule. I know express guys wanna be on time and since they just do pick-ups they wanna get everyone and GTFO to the outer boroughs, but they really piss on the schedule sometimes. It was fine for me, maybe not so OK for people who missed a bus they waited for.
  10. I've managed to be the only person here who hasn't seen one on the . What are the odds. I often get the one R46 that will be running on any given day on the , so yeah, them's the breaks.
  11. That can't be your point since I don't think the is great. It gets the job done, though. It's worst moments are the drop-outs at 59 St during rushours. Otherwise, for the ridership it gets (and the amount of trains they can squeeze into 60th street tube), headways are OK. And yes, it'll be ok when the Montague tube gets closed. Dekalb, etc...
  12. And? Yeah, the buses get used. Good. The more people use them the better, as that means more bang for the buck in terms of running them. Your point being?
  13. I do take it to kill time. I sleep on it, which is simply easier to do than on the subway. So for me, that X1 to X28 ride is dicking around. To people in Staten Island, the X1 is important, and to the X28/38 regulars, that bus is important, and they use it. What's the problem? Still doesn't make any of the shit you wrote there make any more sense, or prove whatever point you're trying to prove. Bay Ridge has a subway line to Manhattan, Staten Island doesn't. They have dick in common. The express buses as is provide service where needed and when needed. It's not what works best for me, it's what works. The current set-up with the 27/37 and 28/38 works fine, as evidence by people taking those buses. And if people actually use the X28 on weekends (and not, you know, demand it and then drive anyways), weekend service could work. You like express buses and want them everywhere every 5 minutes, OK, and nobody gives a shit. That's life, deal with it, just as 99% of the people who take the will just take a transfer at Atlantic or DeKalb or Jay without a second thought.
  14. I've been swamped in work. I'm gonna need to read through this thread I guess. I could've sworn I didn't miss anything and then bam R160s on the . Ain't that a kick in the head.
  15. You're making literally no sense. How is me rarely taking the express bus on my ride home (when I leave early and have two hours to spare) the same as you going (wherever you were going) and randomly getting on an X17 and then bitching it was hard to get to Coney Island? I don't take the express bus because I need to, but because I have extra hours to kill sleeping on the bus. It's not even an "alternative" so much as it its a waste of my time because I got time to waste. If I leave normal time I wouldn't dare be dumb enough to do the X1 to X28/38 thing. And if I lived along the and needed Manhattan, I'd still take the damn because I can transfer to any one of 300 lines to Manhattan. On a final note, Staten Island and Bay Ridge are entirely different. One has only the ferry or driving as an alternative to express bus, one has the (and later, those spooky transfers) to get to Manhattan. I got no foggy memory, I just don't subscribe to your particular brand of bullshit.
  16. I have literally zero clue as to what you are talking about this point. Seriously, you're trolling hard today. I give up. I'm a meanie and a bad man and hate express buses because they have cooties.
  17. Waitaiminute, how'd I miss this? There's R160s on the now?
  18. Honestly, what the f**k are you even talking about at this point? Seriously, I know you finally got a great chance to troll, but what was that even supposed to be? When have I said anything about the S79 SBS being bad? What does Staten Island have to do with express buses covering the in Brooklyn when the will still be running (but just require a transfer, THE HORROR). And what do express buses have to do with me going back to Brooklyn? If you're gonna troll, put in more effort than "OH YEAH THE S79 WAS LATE SO HOW DO YOU LIKE EXPRESS BUSES NOW?"
  19. DAFUQ happened in middle Staten Island today around 6-7 PM? S79 SBS (and far as I can tell, the X1) was FUBAR'd beyong belief. Forty-five minutes I waited for a damn bus. First a half-an-hour wait of nothing, then some showed up and didn't stop/let people on. At least one deadheaded empty to Brooklyn (late I guess), one was a "NEXT BUS PLEASE" sardine can, and one was either empty or packed "NEXT BUS PLEASE" that tried to drive behind an X1 so we wouldn't notice. The fourth one finally stopped.
  20. Because all it takes is one moron to fall asleep and then panic when the train goes to relay; and sue the for millions and win; at which point the fumigation is resumed.
  21. There's a large demographic of oxygen and nitrogen that would totally use 15-mile crosstown highway-based bus routes.
  22. Good news: payroll tax ruled as complying with state constitution by appeals court, overturning the decision made by the tea party douche judge in long island last year.
  23. Weren't they there to keep people the hell out of the gap between cars?
  24. Just now noticed the new "wide turn" buses on the back of the 3Gs in Staten Island have an XD-40 on them. I guess anticipates plenty of those coming along. Also saw an MCI standing on the side of the highway just south of 86 St in Brooklyn. Was standing on a cutout in the shoulder to the right on northbound direction with hazard lights blinking.
