    Hello all,

I just got sworn in yesterday for the July 22nd class. I'm buying the clothing I need and ordered the boots already, but I remember it being mentioned somewhere what type of bag I should buy. I think it was in this thread.

Anybody have any recommendations as far as toolbags? I know backpacks or bags with wheels are a no no.

    The KAKA Backpack:

  2. Just a question: From the time when Medic started this topic until now, has anyone noted a change in RTO? Those who were hired from this list around that time have at least 2 years in Motors. Good, bad, indifferent? Move this over to the Crew if need be please. Thanks!

  3. I finally finished my first week of real YX work (not posting, or enhancement). I loved it, after the first day learning the moves it was smooth sailing. Just a simple question; is there a parking area at Woodlawn Terminal for MTA workers, or do most people just park at Mosholu yard and take the train one stop up?

Ken, park at Concourse Yard, which is on 204 & Jerome Ave (3911 Jerome Ave), i.e., directly next to Mosholu Tower. Then, take the 4 @ BPK to WDL.

  4. Damn.. my hats off to you and everyone else who had it that long.  You guys definitely paid your dues and respect you for that !

Any tips on how to manage life as extra extra ? You ever had 10 or less hours between shifts ?

I have seen some people as extra extra they have bloodshot eyes and are walking zombies man. Its to a point where I would be afraid of them operating because they looked like they could fall asleep standing up.

Drive to work if it takes less than half the time to get to your report location by public transportation. Otherwise, dark sunglasses, black jacket over the shirt, take off the cap and get some sleep until your stop. AND, black shades in your room 'cuz that sun will keep you up if you're pms or mids

  5. Yes it is we was extra extra for almost FIVE years you have no idea what it was like to have some sort of a life!

I heard about that...CRICKEY!!! Talk about pick guilt. 9 months for us. Then again, TA hired T/Os over the past 3 -4 years like they were going outta style.

  6. must be on the job past probation to be CBTC.

How would you guys define "Track Indication Signal" because in the induction book/rule book, signal guide and TSS I have 3 different worded definition

Induction book / Rule Book: =  "A home indication signal which when clear displays the track for which a train is being routed"

TSS =  "Proceed with caution on the track indicated by the illuminated number, be prepared to stop with 1/2 range of vision expecting to find the track occupied

Signal Guide = "Proceed with restricted speed and extreme caution on the track indicated by the illuminated number"

as long as your answer is written somewhere official like an updated signal guide given to you by Service Delivery and/or more importantly the rule book, you WILL NOT fail the signal exam

  7. Up until now, so far all I've heard about TSS's is that they are bearded grand wizards of teaching. I knew there had to blah blah blah blah blah out there somewhere. Hang in there and make the best of this regardless, nobody is perfect.

Keep this in mind when you finish school car & decide from then if you want to stay on the road or not:

Study your rules, 2 pages a day, 5 minutes a day. Read 3 bulletins a day...You too can be a bearded grand wizard of teaching.

  8. From what I see, TA has gone the way it is because of those with no common sense and the new generation of whiners/snitches...not cool. Get some sense and grow some. Take responsibility for your own actions and don't be crabs in a frikkin barrel. This job is extreme enough without hacks and quacks jackin up the system even more.

    Peace

  9. As per MTA rule you must wear their footwear.....unless you get a Dr.s note. The shoes you wear after that must be approved by the MTA. Not sure what they would approve though. In my opinion, if you do that, now they know you have bad feet.......

There's currently no longer a contract with Saf-Guard. Call the Union & they will further instruct you on what type of footwear to purchase and will be approved by TA. I'm doing the same in the morning.

p.s. System Safety and SDOT will be no help with this issue. They say we're stuck with one pair (we only got one pair at the beginning of school car) until there's a new contract agreed to.

  10. This time it didn't. Believe me when I tell you,a multiple choice. He still works here to this day. I wouldn't make it up.

That is something you need not repeat...That gets around and School Car gets bumped up two notches and we'll be XX FOR 5 years. Keep that kind of info very private.

  11. How are the TSS's about taking a few days off during school car? I have a wedding to go to in California in October.

    Rrrriiiiiight.

hey guys, im starting on Monday an I have 2 questions.

    1. when do we get paid? if I remember right the lady at the interview said the checks are made at the beginning of the month so if you call out a day you get paid and have it taken out later. so I assume if its like that then they don't hold back a week like most jobs do.

    2. does anyone have an idea where I can buy those pants and shirt for orientation. how long until we get our uniforms ?

Get the threads at JC Penney.

  12. Thank you to everyone for your wisdom, support and guidance. I'll make sure to keep my school car habits. I figure as long as my operation is guided by safety/rule, there should be no issue. I WILL be asking questions.

Good luck and be safe to all who are just starting and still in school car.
