  1. My classmates and I have seen Signal and Track sleeping on the 3rd Rail Protection Board. Needless to say, we were all dumbfounded. We as RTO will never be so careless unless TA installs maple 360 contact shields with a slit for the current collectors/contact shoes...But how likely is that?

On a more positive note, we've all passed the final today and next Tuesday is our Road Practical.

  2. 7 days into road posting...tricks of the trade and learn what not to say over the air.

    7 more days to go.

Sad to say we're down to 6 in TA-24.

In any event, to all in school car, take EVERYTHING you can from this experience. After this, it will be up to YOU to stay current with troubleshooting techniques, bulletins and your money.

  3. I passed the road practical, all the hard work paid off, thanks to my instructors, train operators that posted with me and all my classmates that were always there to lend their support. good luck to all you still in school car hope to see you all on the road.

    Congratulations Etrain!!!

  4. Lmao, true that.

    No, The Infamous TA-22

    Passed my Final people.

Was At the school today for my final and met some of you good people that just started, one of the Tss conducting the session was my Tss from school car. Good luck to all you.

    Congrats E!!!

  5. I am done road posting, I can honestly say that I imrpoved my operation a lot thanks to all those nice instructors that took me as a student.  I will make sure I pay it forward when is my turn down the line.   Final exam is this week then road practical next week and we will be released to the A division crew office's mercy.

    TA-23?

  6. TA-24...about to begin our 2nd week of PM Road-Ops. We have our Final Yard Practical in a week and a half then off to Road Posting for 3 weeks. Oh Yeah!!!

    p.s.

R-62 Kawasaki should be reefed. Those brakes really do have a mind of their own and all of my class can control a train. We've all had issues during the first couple of stations adjusting to them but we tame them & then they're off doing the next pain in the ass thing... Whatev's as long as we make good station stops it's all gravy.

  7. So I just called about not receiving my letter when others on here got them. Apparently I was scheduled to come in TODAY for preemployment. So I'll have to go tomorrow morning after work, list #110x. So frustrating, plus it looks like I won't be going to C/R first.

Good news P! I hope to see you in pinstripes soon...

  8. No it is 10 points disabled veteran. Score 97 not veterans 5 points.

The city/state only gives 5 points and/or Veterans preference if an LEO position. 10 is absurd. That's what the college/military requirements are for for the above stated as well.

  9. Sample Timeline:

    • dt/pre-employment letter dated: 4/11/13
    • dt/pre-employment letter received via usps: 4/15/13
    • dt/pre-employment appointment date: 4/18/13; start- 7:30 am; finished -11:30am
    • fone call for medical/final processing: 4/29/13
    • medical/final processing date: 5/03/13; start- 7:30am; finished -4:30pm
    • accepted into May 20 class; bc0v9g9 -list# 92x
    Recommendations:

    • perform your due diligence before asking questions: research the threads
    • let your conscience guide you when answering/providing any information to mta-hr
    • its best to be over prepared than under-prepared
Thanks for all those who shared freely and willingly ... i hope this timeline & recommendations help others plan accordingly - Good Luck

Congrats bc!!! See you on the road...

  10.

Ok, I just got a letter to go in for my drug test for Train operator. It does say 20.9600 per hour and it does say Train op/yard. So I have to find out what that's about. Thank you.

Unless MTA has changed the salary in the past month for T/O Yard, we start at $30.075/Hr. You need to call & verify.

  11. After working the (A) yesterday, I can say that all of my Road Posting is complete. It is very surreal that Schoolcar is almost over.

Thank you to all the Motormen who took me on as a student, and helped me improve my operatoin.

Thank you to all the Conductors who were patient with me, and (most importantly) didn't pull the cord on me.

    Written Final on Monday.

It's not the R68 you have to worry about; it's the R68A. Just feel for the sweet spot on the brake handle right near the snowbrake.

Good luck on your Final & Road Practical Medic. Stay safe out there.

  12. I went in for medical and final processing on 4/23. I passed everything and was surprised when the interviewer asked if i can start on Monday 4/29. I turned it down for now because I am aware I have a shaky background.I told them that I would prefer for my background check to be completed before I accept the job because I would hate to resign from my job now (which is a good job) without giving adequate notice and burning that bridge to accept the position without knowing if the MTA will accept my background as is. She said i was risking for the list to expire before the background check is complete. I think I would be taking a bigger risk if I take the job now and Good forbid get fired because of my background and quitting my last job and having a burnt bridge with them and staying unemployed. Does these background checks really take that long? Has anyone ever requested their background check completed before appointment?

Dude/Dude-ette...Did you disclose your past discretions in the 21 page booklet? If you did, no worries. You were honest.

Sorry to be so frank but get your ass over here. Pay attention, learn your job & do your job and you will have no problems. That way, when they do get to your file, your very clean record and vouches from supes will speak for you and help you keep the gig.

  13. How do they investigate your last job you had? From what I heard the MTA is not as technical as the NYPD, but I can be wrong. How does the investigators from HR handle that?

They investigate by calling, researching addresses and verifying. Also, they seem like they aren't as technical BUT, they WILL screen your papers. If anything turns up that raises a red flag, you will be toast or at least well on your way to the toaster. This happens, by the way, no matter when they get to you and your case.

  14. Posted on the (C) today.

GAWD I LOVE OPERATING THE R32s!!!!!

Watch your handbrakes on the Yard Practical.

Enjoy the Road Ops. Learn to finesse your stops there.

Road posting will be a blast, as long as you have the right trainers. I've had a very positive experience so far.

These salty dogs will break you in...

We should have Polywog cards like the Navy; with road posting being like Wog Day except it lasts for however long posting is.

  15. Question @ the Medical/Final Interview: how much time was there between the actual call and the date/time for the medical/final interview? Was it like 24 hour notice, 1 week etc... Multiple replies encouraged since I'm sure everyone had a different experience - thanks!!!

    bc -#92x; dt 4/18

As per above, they will call anywhere between 1-90 days.
