  1. the overview is the day they inform you on what you need to do/study and they will give you the materials you need. all your questions will also be answered on this day
  2. wow! less than 10 guys in the 1/10 class. good luck guys.
  3. i believe 2 classes for aug and 1 in sept
  4. it's not for everybody. if you don't have a good study habit, don't bother. congrats and good luck to everyone.
  5. i had 23yrs with my old job when i left for the RR. it was the best decision I made.
  6. sorry this happened. you should've took the train. if that train is scheduled to get you there on time and it was late, you are good. they always say "if you are on time. You are late"
  7. if you are starting AC class then you need not worry about the hand out they gave you. you will get your book of rules and whatever definitions are in that book are the ones you need to know.
  8. congrats! you are correct, a lot of studying or maybe the most studying you'll do. don't worry about PC. You'll have time to study to qualify after you get through probation. Right now just do your best to pass AC class. Once you're out, there's a good chance you will be sent anywhere from Penn to montauk of greenport. that's is why they require you to have a license and a reliable car. as to whether to drive or DH on a train, you'll have to look at the schedule. Good luck!
  9. 72 positions because they are trying to do 5 classes of 22 or 24 this year. yeah it's like winning the lottery if you get in ;-) good luck to all
  10. guys you can also apply for the assistant conductor position if you're not having luck with engine service
  11. if you can i recommend taking a leave or try to hold on to your current job until you pass the book
  12. might be 2 AC class for Sept. those going for the panel interview just think "safety first"
  13. the book and PC both have vebals after passing the written test. you can pass the written and fail the verbal. it's a process i don't want to go through again but definitely worth it. think the engine service process is a lot better than the conductors. for conductors you study on your own while working trains. good luck to everyone. i
  14. put them all on index cards and study everyday. it also helps to write them out. if they gave you a practice CD, do that as well. you have to put in the time and just keep at it. believe me studying for the S&D is nothing compared to qualifying or when you get into the program. having a positive attitude helps too. it's just a matter how bad you want the job. good luck.
  15. hey truckie, do you get hired as an assistant conductor at metro north then qualify as a conductor like LIRR? I wonder how similar the process is. thanks.
  16. LIRR https://hcm.mymta.info/psc/HCPRD/SELFSERVICE/HXMS/c/HRS_HRAM.HRS_APP_SCHJOB.GBL?Page=HRS_APP_SCHJOB&Action=U&TargetFrameName=None
