  1. The MTA was going crazy promoting the Bx12 SBS when it first started, as it was the first SBS route. They got a little TOO carried away IMO, and started adding it all over the subway as if it was a subway transfer (or the Silver Lie). What's next, adding a S79 SBS announcement at 86/4?

  2. All of the 142's which have Atlantic-Barclays also have the uptown Bleecker transfer announcement. We have been instructed to censor out that announcement until the transfer actually opens. They do not have the M34 announcement, and there's really no reason to.....

  3. 1. There are still elements of old program audio left behind on routes that don't often get used. The old E'Chester spelling still exists on some rarely used programs too.

2, The announcement got deleted completely, replaced by the very long Fastrack description announcement. That was one of my favorite announcements to play with the doors open at crowded stations too.....

  4. 5's will be turning at 149 Upper, so I'll get to load the 5 Woodlawn-Flatbush program, which features the Melissa Kleiner announcements for the 2 stops in the Bronx it makes (as well as all the Jerome stops). 99% of conductors load the Dyre-Flatbush program, but that has 149 LOWER, meaning you have to resync at 138 because of the extra distance through the loop.

  5. I'll be raising Melissa Kleiner from the dead with this upcoming GO on the 5 next week!

And whoa, I never knew about that "unavoidable delay" canned message. I also really miss the "Please be considerate. On crowded trains, hold onto your backpack and move to the middle of the car", which I used to use all the time on the 6. It got replaced with the Fastrack description message.

  6. LORD PLEASE SEND Donald to the B Div!!!!!!

Please, you work Queens Div, which is even harder to get into than the Larry line....plus you got about 1000 spots of seniority on him.

You all need to stop ragging on Donald. He may be new here, but his dad worked here for decades, so he's got the inside scoop on everything.

  7. Did that 5 to E180 via Y3 GO actually run yesterdat? It was cancelled today due to the weather. And btw, the GO stated that we were to BYPASS Pelham Parkway (anybody know why?).

It only is accessible from just north of Pelham Parkway to E. 180, IIRC...

Unless you're looking at the official track schematics issued by Operations Planning, don't believe everything you see. Those unofficial online track charts are full of mistakes. Y3 is fully intact from south of Dyre to south of Morris Park, HOWEVER there are no automatic signals on it, so it can only be used in an absolute block, with restricted speed and extreme caution. Don't be expecting the express ride of your life.....

  8. Because the TWU would throw a fit if the MTA DID order any more half-cab sets.....there's no advantage to them (and c'mon, foaming is NOT an advantage in the eyes of anybody who actually makes the decisions), especially now that they stick to 5 car units where the middle 3 cars don't have a cab at all.

  9. LOL, you don't work here, do you ThrexxBus? We do relocations from Dyre/Unionport to 239 ALL THE TIME. It's a horrible way to end a day on the 5 line too - what you think is a simple layup from Dyre to Unionport, take it to the middle at E180, call Unionport tower, they ask what your operating motor is, and if you tell them it's anything below 6700 "change ends, take it to 239!", now you got another 20 minutes added to your night to take it up there, on top of the time it takes to shut down the train for the night, and then another half hour to get back down to E180, and THEN you gotta go upstairs to sign out, which means abandoning the 2 train you deadheaded down on and waiting ANOTHER 20 minutes for the next one. Sure, you'll get a nice late clear, but was it worth it?

Keep this in mind, future T/Os, before you decide to pick a job on the 5 that ends with a layup and signs out at E180......

Anyway, since 239 and Unionport share fleets, the wrong equipment can get sent out if that's all that's available at the time. There's a new strip map which should be rolled out soon which has both the 2 and 5 lines on it, so that should put an end to this nonsense.

  10. The 5 runs local in both directions in Manhattan, in order to provide additional service since the 6's intervals are cut. It's easier to keep the 5 on the local track and loop it at the Bridge than it is to cross it over. The 4 can handle those other 3 stations on its own.

  11. Ill add this, dont ask the T/O southbound on the B/D at 59-CC, look at the signal to see who has the lineup. Often the train crew has no idea, either. Typically its the train scheduled to leave first, and that's something neither T/O would know unless they knew the schedule for both lines.

I was replying to this post, which my phone showed as being the newest post in this thread for some reason, so I didn't think it was necessary to quote it....

I finally rode an R142 with the updated announcement for Atlantic Av, 6514 and its mates. It also had the name 'Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr' on the strip map. Ironically, the strip map still showed the diamond <5>.

THANK YOU! I honestly was starting to think I dreamed that R142 update - I come into work on Friday a couple weeks ago, after having not worked the NTT in almost a week, and every set had those updates, and then I haven't ONCE had a set which had any of those updates since then, including today.

  12. The idea is that if every car is a halfcab, it won't matter if they do 5+1+5, 5+6, 5+5+1 or all single sets. Despite being illegal to walk through, they still don't want mid-set traverse cabs that aren't being used, plus every seat counts on that line.

Whether 240 follows suit remains to be seen, but apparently that is the plan.....I will ask around when I am over there this weekend.
