I can see the 80S being permanent to replace society Hill since it goes down sip

Thats whats gonna have to happen....All that would do is add about five mins as it would just have to do the danforth ave loop or have it simply end at society hill ppl needing greenville along westside stiil have the 80 there....The 80s also gonna have to run more during the day not just rush hours if transit decide to go with that option...Its gonna be interesting how this play out cause greenville and meadowlands  is max out after the 119/10 takeover...Only way i see this work if the buses from A&C  go to Ironbound and do the Routes from there...Cause if transit leave those lines (Talking mainly 30 33) without backup the 80 and especially the 87 gonna be packed beyond measures...

I don't see the problem here, if you're merely talking about running later than say, 7pm on a Saturday (which the #10 & the #80 obviously do.... Lol)....

To be frank, I don't see NJT running exact replicas of any of these routes whenever A&C ends up folding.... They didn't do it with the #4 (instead, made the #86 a spaghetti mess south of Newark av. to cover that portion of the former route), so I don't really have a reason to be optimistic as far as keeping these routes fully intact goes.... Service levels & wider spans OTOH I'm simply not worried about (NJT providing adequate of)....

Yeah, the nostalgia factor's definitely gonna kick in when A&C finally "kicks" the bucket..... Felt a similar way here in NYC when the MTA took over the PBL's.

I get what u saying...Im Also well aware of the ending times of the 10 and 80 lol.....In my opinion those 2 routes need service of they own not reroutes...Yes u can reroute the 10 down bergen av...But whats gonna cover the reroute 10s and the plaza area in bayonne that the bergen do serve....Bayonne already have fits over everything...10 up bergen ave not gonna go well with them.....They will be like walk a block and use the 87 the way most do already....30 was created to actually help the 80 and 80s along westside ave...Those was the only routes serving JSQ from Westside Ave Until 1994.... Now adding more 80's gonna help to some extent...But which 80 and where the extra buses coming from Greenville is maxed...the 30 runs more like the 80S Which is a big difference from the normal 80... Now if transit decides to say forget them and just use the 80...Ok now a good portion of northern part of westside and sip ave is with just the number 1 and 80s rush hours only....Me personally when AC do give up the service ill  give AC  buses to Ironbound Garage and let them operate the 30 and 32 33 They should have space for additional buses plus the dead head is not far at all.......That 4 sanaga shouldnt went like that...86 and number 1 should had been left alone....They should had just rerouted the 81 in that case...

There weren’t enough cars in the Eastern Division at the time to warrant the current (M), so they thought it was easier to reduce the (G) to free up cars for the (V)‘s existence.

I believe the only way the current (M) could have existed in December 2001 is if the R27s and R30s (known as the B Division Redbirds) were not permanently retired and that those cars would have been rotated between the (B) and (J)(Z), with the (M) being all R42s like before prior to the R160 phase in.

How u figure....M was just an extended line already at eny...not a new line to the yard..(T to dyre also pointed out that the M was Also in south bklyn at that time)...but there where enough cars to warrent the M to run to Bay Parkway ???...Also around that time M trains also ran to Coney and J to 95st Cause of 9/11...

I would think that NJT would merely replace the #30 with added #80 service & have most of the #33 replaced with rerouted #10 service along Bergen av.... So I wouldn't necessarily worry about either (30/33) as far as increased spans are concerned....

Lol..I'm merely talking about later in the night... Before AC took over the last Bergen Ave left JSQ at 1230 now been reduced to 7 pm on a Saturday..yikes....yes the 30 and 80 share West side Ave most of it..but the 30 run more like the 80S (with the exception that it serves Society Hill) which only runs rush hours and use sip rather than Montgomery... which also ran on wkends...the 10 can run straight up Bergen Ave but what about that Eastern portion the Bergen do serve...

the <By> and (D79) were in service in the 80s

It wasnt just the 80s they resorted to this service change....Each time work needed to be done on the bridge one side was lefted opened....There was plenty of times in recent years where  both (B) and (D) terminated at 34st

  6. 18 minutes ago, T to Dyre Avenue said:

They couldn’t really do that back in December 2001 because they still had the <M> in South Brooklyn during midday hours as well as rush to compensate for the (B) and (D) being shut out of Brooklyn until 2004 due to Manhattan Bridge work.

Not really...How was the <M> really helping the (B)(D) at that time even when it ran on 4 av......U still had to make a transfer for mid town and uptown service...Thats why they had the split (B)(D) at that time  for one simple transfer at 34st....

COVID is what did them in. A&C Bus never received any bailout money from the feds. They've been operating at a loss ever since.

Ironbound can definitely handle the JSQ routes.

You talking the 30 and the 33...Yeah they can...Years ago on weekends they did both 80 and 81....Me personally ill give all they routes and buses to ironbound.....And when they do take over the routes they need to look into the 33 and 30 ending so early and run them a bit later...Especially the 33

Does anyone else think if the 2010 cuts never happened that the (V) would have lasted well into 2018/2019?

I say 2018 because of the 14th St tubes, someone would have eventually came up with the idea to reroute the (M) to 96th St as a special service, and later kept it permanent by replacing the entire (V).

To me when they rerouted the (F) over the 63st tube the (M) should have became the replacement then....Jamaica would have kept their cars and the (G) wouldnt been cut from 6 to 4 cars...Thats just me

NJT would have to provide service by default.

I really didn't like what they did with the 86(P) when the 4 got the axe. It made the whole line in Jersey City confusing as shit.

To this day i still dont get the meaning of that detoured 86...lol....My thang is which garage....Ill give it too Nwk-Orange...I dont think greenville or meadow  can handle more routes

If anyone noticed outside while waiting for the bus, the sky has turned dark with a bit of fog. It’s from a wildfire that happened around the Quebec, Canada area.

Yup..Smell like theres a fire everywhere....I acutally put on a mask...Making me dizzy...Be safe out there

If I recall, PATH was supposed to go to Grand Central in its early days. They also provisioned for a spur at 9th Street that would've sent trains over to Astor Place as well.

Big facts...So true about trains going to astor place and Grand Central....In my opinion PATH should have extended to Tsq or Grand Central at the time they made room to fit Todays IND 6 ave Line...Can u imagine the Path at TSQ or  Grand Central  nowadays...

Path should go deeper into Manhattan

the 33rdst trains should be extended north to 42nd

The WTC could go to wall street

I agree PATH Should have been Extended to serve 42st..Not so much wall st...Thats  literally right around the corner....

Lol.... I try to (go all out on these fantrips) every single time.... I feel unsatisfied doing trips for anything less than like 6 hours..... Still want to do a 24+ hr. trip again, but nowadays, it would have to be on the perfect day weather-wise for me (pretty much meaning during a brisk-to-cold fall or winter day, with no precip' of any sort).... Anyway, generally speaking, I don't put myself in those situations to where I'm near being stranded (and on that trip in-particular, it was no exception)....

Damn, somebody had it out for you on that day; bad ass luck all the way around, fam..... I can honestly say that I've never had a trip close to being this bad.... Bet at the end of it all, you're kicking yourself for not taking the #72 to begin with (now that feeling, I've had quite a few times - The whole, I should've did 'y' instead of 'x')... Two things though:

1] Where the heck did that op' on the #28 (the Newark bound one) leave you off at?

2] By any chance, did you happen to know the op' on the #190 that took you back to the depot?

Give yourself some credit - It's enough you even did that trip, knowing that you had to pick up your seed !

With as much fanning as I've done, this may sound odd, but I still feel as if I'm missing out on a whole hell of a lot... I'm not one of these people that's satisfied with simply riding a route once, twice, or a handful of times.... Sadly, I've been doing a lot of procrastinating lately (lot of which is due to health reasons)... Going on 42 & my back reminds me of that shit everyday... Lol....

Like today for example... Wanted to do some Bee Line fanning, but... Woke up with a stiff back around 4:15 (which is usually around the time I wake up anyway)... Said to myself, nope, this aint happening.... Not taking the (2) all the way from Church to 241st early in the morning feeling f**ed up like this.... I *may* do some riding in your neck of the woods tomorrow though; with the aim of riding most of the #80's routes....

Speaking of which, how would you rank the riderships of those routes (#80 - #89) from most utilized to least utilized?

Sorry about ya back...I know how u feel once in a while i get a lil stiff..Our age is definitely catching up i just turned 44.....lol...I would say the 87 would have the most ridership out of them...80 to me is next...81 gained a boost in ridership when A&C Took away the 4 off ocean av...83 84 85 86 88 89...I rarely took those..But i can say that the 84 and 86 has decent ridership north of Newark Ave...

I can't speak too much on weekdays, but on saturdays inparticular, b/o's on that route appear to do whatever they want... At Willowbrook (whilst waiting for other buses on multiple instances) I've seen buses leaving significantly early (15+ mins.).... I can't count how many times it's no showed..... It really does feel like a crapshoot trying to plan an itinerary around it...

    -------------------

Anyway, I threw the planned itinerary for that trip in the garbage when we got to Paterson's City Hall on that #748 trip in question...But from what I can remember, the planned trip was to be the #197 - #748 - #704 - #705 - #758 - #762 - #772 - #85 - #126 (save for the 197 to Willowbrook & the weekend #772 only operating b/w Hackensack & American Dream, all full routes)... That walk from the #748 over to the #704 is always fun... lol....

The trip actually ended up being #197 (to Willowbrook Mall) - #748 (to Paterson City Hall) - #171 (full) - #182 (full) - #712 (full) - #871 (full) - walked from Speedwell/Cattano to MNRR Morristown - Train from Morristown to S. Orange (because I had a ticket from a previous planned trip a couple mos. ago I had to cancel, that I wanted to finally use... that, and I didn't want to ride back on the same bus/driver that I just came off on the #871, that did the #874 back to Willowbrook.... I knew that going in anyway) - #107 (full)... Then for shits & giggles, I took the (C) from TSQ to Jay st, to the B67 - to the B35, home.

Total trip time: 13 hrs, 6 mins, :D

I swear one day i have to fan like this...:D...Few weeks ago i did a little fanning....1 to penn for the 76 to hackensack 178 to Gwb A Train down to fulton st for the path to nwk for the 1 back home...Had to pick up my daughter from school...:D

I wonder why there is no express service on the West end line, or at least on subway lines that have three tracks, what’s the point of having a middle track, I know some are only used for storage, but there is a few middle tracks that can have a purpose

I wondered that for years...lol...All u gonna hear is that some  trains are gonna  carry air trains are gonna skip stations with high ridership etc etc etc...

Couldn't they have just had the (F) run normal and have the (E) go to 179 with if necessary some trains terminate at Parsons on the (F) as Parsons-Archer on the (E)and (J) is a bit of a distance from Hillside Avenue?

    That part....

Suspicious package at Parsons Archer has cut the J back to Broadway Junction and the E and F to 71st.

They could'nt send the (J) a bit further than Bway Jct....Why not Cresent or 121st ???
