  1. so yeah, started looking for better work, tired of the shit of retail. applied for a paid internship (where i have connections), and temp position with a urban planning non for profit that pays nearly 15 an hour.
  2. Mean while in chicago... I actually venture to the rough parts of the city, usually during midday and with another person. Mainly because all of the interesting planning/ non for profits are in the rough parts. I was down on 35th/46th last saturday... Not a rough part but still decaying. No problems. Actually a decent area imo. South of 45th the warnings start to go up. But usually ive found its peaceful during the day. Your risk of getting shot or killed is low compared to pickpocketing and other petty crime. I think people tend to overexaggurate crime. Having said that, people get shot every day here. We had a shooting on the CTA last night actually. In a part of the city that is relatively peaceful. And i agree with the quiet areas part. I was in Lincoln Square, a kinda hipster part of the city , before sun down. Peaceful, quiet. I leave and two hours later at 7pm some one was shot and killed. Here, i've had no issues. Havent bren to NYC to comment enough. But the same rules apply as they do here. Btw when I go to boston... Im going to be the nut that goes down to Mattapan (not only to see thr PCC's) to see what its like and why it has a bad rep. Sent from my iPhone 5c using Tapatalk
  3. 15 days until i fly to Boston for a week. Im extremely excited, got a sweet place in the city for an overnight stay, and I'm going to roam one of the Universities I am looking at for an MPA.
  4. I have had a headache of Metra issues. Yesterday, at union station, one of Amtraks switch frogs broke, alonm with a rail and a train blew a signal. All at rush hour. The Union pacific -west, the other line i take, was packed and delayed. So what did I do? Called my dad and told him to grt me in Roselle, near his work. I made it home jn time. The delays on the Union Station lines were so bad, trains were 80 minutes late. Now, im on a UP West train, with no power or heat. In 19 degree weather. Joy. Sent from my iPhone 5c using Tapatalk
  5. I now hate ventra with a firey passion. Went to the retail office to get 34 day passes, and they told me to go to a ticket machine and buy it 34 times. I walked upstairs to the CTA offices and bought the old magnetic day passes Sent from my iPhone 5c using Tapatalk
  6. Tip from a worker in the inside.... the crowds die down from 4:30/5am to about 8am. They pick up after 8 to about 8pm or so. Was talking with a manager about our lack of floor coverage in the store (but 3 cashiers coming in with in a 2 hour period), and he explained it to me. Saw the numbers to back it up. Interms of sales... we make 3-4x as much as we would a typical busy day, but then we are open from 10pm Thursday to midnight friday. Plus some one had the brigt idea to up our sales goals, when we have never made them before... usually make 80k, some one wants us to make 100k. hahahahah..no.
  7. i hate black friday. I got lucky and got a 7am-2pm shift though. some places open at 6 on Thanksfiving... like really?!
  8. So i went to the darkaide... After my nokia had a hissy fit with the screen, and tmobile said f**k you basically, went back to verizon and got an iphone 5c. So much better , ive missed verizons service! Sent from my iPhone 5c using Tapatalk
  9. you aint seen nothing yet... when i was on airline-empires... people were multi accounting to the point where they were causing extreme issues with servers (i think some one hacked). I had my period where I trolled that site but now its over.... it was 2 years ago... more important shit to do, sensible converstations to have.
  10. Yeah i see the inefficiencies. I wouldnt say its just the norm with the MTA however
  11. Haha, with all of the data GIS technicians deal with, there is some room for error. This is google maps right? If you want to edit a point with them btw... the process is stupid and insane. I dropped out of editing with them because of the politics. Many medical computers still use floppies. Or atleast I've heard.
  12. That sign reminds me of the ones on the blue line, painted over the Douglas Branch part after the pink line opened Sent from my Nokia 521 using Tapatalk
  13. I find windows phone being better than android and ios. Used to love ios, gave android multiple chances, but WP8 is ghr best. App sellection is improving, performance is great, better than ios at times. And we have lots of updates coming Sent from my Nokia 521 using Tapatalk
  14. I have a special request, but it may not work. In Chicago, we just got new 5000 series cars that have these: The map animates the train as it moves along. I would love a gif animation of the blue line for my signature. Here is the blueline:
  15. Are physical barriers the reason for the lack of a deticated bus corridor?
  16. I just saw EMD #1208 in a UP yard. Clean looking locomotive.
  17. Why is there no BRT in the city? I see proposals, and it could be a good idea. But why none?
  18. Has there ever been a proposal for a direct subway connection to Laguardia? It seems odd... I mean unless the busses are ok. Chicago built the Orange line in the late 90's, direct to Midway. Midway was nearly dead until the 90's, when WN (Southwest) came in and took 95% of the traffic. I mean LGA is a pretty major airport. But the transit links seem iffy. Any opinion? Ramblings of an urban planner here. It doesnt have to be long trains or quick headways. Maybe a shuttle?
  19. Atleast it was ontime.... Had to rush between two Metra lines today because a signal decided to go kaput and they had to hardline trains through the area. Mind you... this is on a 3 track railroad, with speeds at 79+ (they call it the "Speedway", before an accident in the 40's trains used to hit 90-100 mph). Made it with one minute to spare..... How is it during sporting events and St Patty's day?
