  1. Takes a little doing but searching Google/Forum you are able to locate them. "Cheat" sheets can't be fair in essence if you are cheating to begin with. If you want it, you would take the time to look for it.
  2. The key at this point is getting your CDL before they call. Probably just in my experience but I be around Zerega alot because of my current job and heard stories of guys waiting all these years then failing because they weren't able to obtain the CDL from the DMV. Personally, now that I know they're calling my focus is to maintain a clean driving record. Pursue the B license. Remove the medical restriction and Save for the driving school which isn't cheap. I was told by many that being able to drive stick shift isn't mandatory either so not sure I'll even pursue that. To conclude the Ferrari issue, I will try Brooklyn for my Bus lessons and provide a review however, though I passed my road test for the A with them, their instructors are rude (how can u make that wide of a turn are u stupid?) however they know their stuff. Left work early one day because I had a driving class with them. When I get there they said the truck cant start since this morning and class is cancelled. Also if u miss payments even by an hour (had direct deposit coming in at 3 class was at 5, direct deposit came at 4:15.....by then they already rescheduled my road test). Best for instructors, avoid the office staff. Brooklyn I will try. Once again this site is an invaluable resource, thank you very much for everything guys
  3. Its not a matter of impatience, you have to give yourself the best chance for success. Waiting until the 10 day training to get the CDL reduces your chance of actually landing the job. I had to find money (Ferrari Driving School is not cheap, service sucked but the instructors are awesome) to pay for the classes, then u get your road test and fail and try to reschedule and they don't have any dates available for months. People with families have to budget their expenses and factor in how can they obtain a CDL and the classes prior to being called. For example; if my list number is 4xxx and they are hiring about 400 this year (just an example) then i don't have to spend $1000 on a license I probably won't use for the next two years and can use it for something more important instead for my family. Everyone is eager to start yes, however everyone has to see if they can afford to get the CDL license before they are even called. Yes you do, you have to take combinations i believe it is and road test in a tractor trailer in order to obtain the A. While similar, in my experience the A was way harder than the B only with respect to backing. Everything else is pretty much the same.
  4. Wow my list number is 10xx n they already called 200 people. What's the number to call to see if u are on outstanding certification? I still have to get Passenger Endorsement and road test.....unexpected costs, I thought I'd have to wait at least 2 years. Excited, congrats to those who got called
  5. Hey by chance, what school did you do those classes with at that price. I have to get mine done as well, I usually go with Ferrari because of their excellent customer service (not always but most times) compared to the horrors i've had with others in that Astoria/Flushing area. I'm really interested to know since even though i like Ferrari, I'm trying to save and they're like one of if not the most expensive. Thanks and congrats on achieving your CDL, best wishes
  6. This was my question earlier somewhat, how many people are called annually. The response I got was at about 1800 per year i believe. And as Deuces said (don't know how to multiquote yet) TA has less spots available so at that rate with less spots available, they might only do half or slightly more than that this year. Maybe 1200 called for 2016 of which 800 is from the old list 2613. At best, 4600 starts in fall (3/4 of the year = 3/4 of 1200 avg - 900 called by like Sept.) I could see anywhere between Sept to Dec they begin 4600 given their being less spots available. And even so, again less positions available, they might not even reach far into the list.
  7. Just googled it, the points come off in 18 months, give or take 2 years. Your points would have expired as we are now in 2016, dec 2015 would have been 24 months for you. I also have 2 points, you can take the defensive course and knock 2 points off however, I took the course recently so i had to wait until the course itself expired (every 2 years also i think), either way, the points should come off before i'm even eligible for the defensive driving class. I also read that the points while "off" can still be used to calculate your insurance premiums (always a catch eh). Either way, for the job, you should be fine by the time they call, as should I going off what the other poster said about 4 points being the maximum.
  8. First of all, CONGRATS TO ALL WHO MADE IT! I'm in the 10##, how long would they take to call? On average how many do they call annually? 100? 1000? I'm not rushing it, I just want to know so I can make certain decisions at my current job. I also got my CDL recently, though i have an A not a B. So I want to know how long to determine whether to go get the B done now or do I have time as money is a huge concern for me at this point.
  9. Yes it does, had concerns regarding my pension given that I do work for the city so its still NYCERS.....thanks alot for the information. Additionally, not sure where to post this question in terms of correct forum or whatever. CDL school recommendations? Where would such a question be posted if even allowed. I got my CDL A and always thought I could drive anything beneath however DMV made it clear you need passenger endorsement and an additional road test in a bus. I'm doing like was suggested and trying to get it before being called. Getting my CDL A was so hard and nerve wrecking, I can second that to those who can afford or look for low payment plans, get the CDL before being called. You can always use it on the side to recoup the money spent to obtain it, better to have months to learn and practice than just a 10 day period. Also forum rules might be abit new or unfamiliar to new members, in reading it came off more combative than invitational. Not sure how this works but on other sites, moderators can just move posts to the correct forums with a tagline of proper procedure to new members for future notice and take disciplinary action to repeat offenders. First time offenders though, came off abit rude tbh. Just my opinion but always a great experience on this forum and always got the best and well-detailed responses from everyone. Thanks for the assistance thus far.
  10. if you think about it, 9 months, (not sure if they can go past the 9months) but if they do stick to 9months, 9 months is feburary 2016 given that the calls were made in june, not as far as it might seem, summer is basically done, fall then feb.....look at it as 3 months gone for the most part, 6 months left
  11. I also got this call, I'm taking my CDL A road test in queens, took it once n failed. Taught me alot this driving experience, yes I would have to take over one for the CDL B as well but jus the road test at that level is so different to the regular Class D, I failed because I passed a stop sign hidden behind some tree branches on the entrance of a ramp to a highway, I honestly have never seen a stop sign on an entrance till then, not yield but stop gettin onto the lane, not at the end of the lane before u get on the highway, but before u even get on the lane. Long story short, if you can afford it, even if its two classes, take some CDL classes before MTA calls, might look easy to some but definitely harder than it seems. "Hazard on the left" smh lol. I already got two points for a turn, no speeding, DUI, keep your license clean. I'm looking into making a career if possible so doing my best to stay on the straight and narrow where my license is concerned. Those who smoke the herbs, now would be a good time to start quitting. My random opinion, it (the message) doesn't mean that you passed the BOSS but from previous posts, if you havent gotten another letter regarding the BOSS then you passed. If I understand correctly, you get a letter after taking the BOSS only when you failed, based on my understanding, not sure if i'm entirely correct but that's what i understand the situation to be. I think that message was simply like "Okay guys, its all wrapped up, just putting on the finishing touches, look out for the list to see if your name is on it in about 9months, if not, better luck next time."
  12. Question, after becoming an operator, what can one move up to? test wise because job postings are usually a courtesy and they already have their candidate. Better worded, after becoming an operator, what are the potential career paths or where might one find such info? Also does anyone know if your time with another city agency transfers across to mta or no?
  13. I got 96.7, thought was one wrong, its two wrong. Got #5 and #27 incorrect
  14. I'm not sure what list they're at or anything of that nature but from what I was told by someone, the earliest you can expect this list to be established is Late Spring Early Fall 2016, possibly starting work in 2017. By guess, how accurate would you say that estimation is that I was told? Seems kinda exhaustive, to take an exam n wait for the job 4 years later. Is this for all civil service exams or just the MTA?
  15. Not sure how I did on the BOSS, but from the December pm test, i had one wrong from the proposed answers. This was my first ticket ever, never had one before so this is my first anything on my license. How do you know what number they're up to when they're calling off of previous lists? is it posted somewhere?
  16. I have two points, illegal left turn . From the head supervisor at the DMV on Rockaway Blvd, Going to court is to see if you can get the fine reduced, "i don't know where people get less points or no points from, the difference between the court and the paying is the amount in which you pay if you are found or plead guilty, the fines are non-negotiable". From what I read, 4 points is the minimum they accept . My friend has gotten a ticket for speeding; doing 35mph in a 25 zone (because of the new speed limit in effect). 10mph over the limit. I think I'll invest in a bike until I hopefully get called off the list. Thanks alot for the advice guys, always appreciated.
  17. I also passed the written with one wrong so prob a 98.3 recurring. Question, I got a CDL A permit, on Friday I got a moving violation [improper Left Turn]. I believe it's 3 points? Couldn't find any definite information via google. Question is, is it truly 4 points or would those 3 points become and issue for me with regards to hiring? Should I fight the ticket or just pay it, would it make a difference on the driving record? Also, can I do a defensive driving course to reduce the points? I already did one in like August, (mandatory due to my job), however I never reported it personally to the DMV. Can I do another DD course to get the points dropped? Really don't want this one stupid ticket mess up my chances, 5 years driving never even got a parking ticket or any ticket driving related til last friday so I'm abit concerned. Thanks alot for all the helpful advice guys. Been greatly appreciated thru the written and the BOSS, you guys always been right on the button. Much thanks
  18. thanks alot for the information man. Idk, i heard you needed three years of driving experience, is that true or not? I did college abroad an recently returned like 2013 n got my license then (been driving abroad for 5 years prior tho so i am experienced), had the US license for like a year and a half now. Probably gonna be two n a half years by the time the list is established, should I be concerned?
  19. Hey guys quick question if anyone can enlighten me. This BOSS exam, i read somewhere that if you take the BOSS means you're with the MTA Bus Company which is different from TA/OA in terms of pension structure. I would like to know if by taking this BOSS test means that I am no longer TA even though I took the exam. Its very new to me all of this so I'm trying to understand. (Took Exam 4600, got one wrong based on the proposed, got the BOSS call-missed it-got the email though. I just want to make sure that all proceedings following that exam is actually civil service as this is a long term career move and I even read about some guys from MTA Bus Co. wanting to actually transfer across to TA. You guys gave me helpful advice in the past and I'm appreciating it even now once again.
  20. So you passed in 2008 and what happened? that's like 6 years ago if you passed why didn't you get the job
  21. Thank you very much for your detailed response, you have no idea how greatly I appreciate it because I didn't want to get myself disqualified and banned from any further exams or anything of that nature. My dad, his dad and so forth have driven for the MTA and other bus companies, there's always good n bad stories but the people that you meet become valuable life memories. I view it as more than a job despite the ups an downs and would really love to be a Bus Driver. Even as a consumer at the moment i enjoy taking the long bus rides exploring NYC. I hope that I do get approved and pass my exams, I just want to say thanks again I am extremely grateful
  22. I read on the forum that if called, you can "opt out" and be re-instated at a later date with your number at the top of the list when it is called. Is this true? If it is, how do you go about getting re-instated after you have been called with regards to which number to call or department to email and how often would your number be called before going they permanently remove you from the list. Reason I'm asking is because I have my exam date in December but I won't have my 3 years experience until October next year. I have my CDL A with all endors except Haz Mat. I really want to work for the MTA but I don't want to be disqualified as a result of a few months. Is there anyway that I can postpone my appointment or will I have enough time between now and then when they call me? If they do disqualify me, does this bar me from reapplying in the future?
