  1. In case anyone was wondering when the next Track class starts, it's Monday February 6th. I'm at PS 248 ( Transit Training Center ) today taking a heavy equipment class, and one of the Track school instructors confirmed the first class of the year. He also mentioned the class was small only around 18-20 people.

Sent from my iPhone using NYC Transit Forums mobile app

FML! Guess I could stop(for now) rushing to my phone every time my email alert goes off.

  2. I'm in the 1100 range and just keeping positive that my # will be called... Also hoping that this is extended past the 2017 expiration of exam 3600...Thry did for the previous one...

The exam list expires in 2018.

Number 75x on the list, haven't received any letters or emails. Should I be concerned guys?!

I wouldn't worry unless someone with a higher number says they've taken their drug test and you still haven't.

  3. Congrats!! to all who have made it in... my question is in response to the statement made about the lowest seniority number being 1761 and that another 239 new hires are need to meet the required mandate of 2000 track workers? does this mean that since they're up to the 5oo range that my range which is in the low 1100 will not be called? I added the 500 (they already called) and the 239 wich are needed, equals 739 I will throw in another 100 for extras equals 839 my # is low 1100 so it looks to me as tho I missed out by about 249 could this be true... or am I mistaken peace and prosperity to all... later.... appreciate any feed back....

Your calculations are a bit off. 500 range is the list number they are up to, not the number of people they hired.

What you need to do is find the average list numbers processed per hire, i.e. for a class of 30 new hires, they might go through 100 list numbers.

  4. There are dangers with the job.

The only thing that makes a difference is yourself.

Don't let senior guys pressure you into something your not comfortable with. Things were a lot different 10-15 years ago and many haven't adapted to the new safety procedures.

Always work as if the third rail is alive. Never take a step without looking. Even a small one backwards. Be aware of what the guys around you are doing. They can fall into you and a cause a chain reaction. Lots of guys in one small area working.

Nothing on the Track is made for comfort. The walking with new plates is a pain in some areas. Trains are much more quiet now. New fiberglass insulators under the 3rd. rail don't magnetize and click like the old porcelain with metal caps did warning you of oncoming trains.

Test the hand rail by pulling on it before pulling yourself up on the bench wall from the Track or even going down. The iron grates on the bench wall, don't step in the middle.

There's grease and mud in many places. Never rush for a train and never think that you have lots of time in between trains to make a move to another track or down the Track without proper flagging or a look out at least.

These new train operator are being trained to call guys in when seen on the tracks without proper flagging.

On the structure don't step in the middle of tie. It could be rotted or burned out inside and collapse. Step near the plates which are over the girder or where there is a cross member.

I can go on and on but it comes down to being aware of your surroundings and fellow co-workers and where you put your hands and feet and not taking unnecessary chances.

I speak from experience. Lots of dumb things I did over the years, broke my wrist once and re-injured it again years later, thanks to my own stupidity and established culture at the time. Luckily none ever costed me my life.

Valuable and potentially life saving information right here. Thank you for taking the time to post.

Everybody is worried about benefits and salary, but it ain't worth shit if you're six feet under.

  5. My brother sent me a text yesterday saying he was sitting in the emergency room and told me they brought in someone who got hit by a train, and his arm and legs came in a separate bag.

That got me thinking. Does the MTA release injured worker data? Besides the metal dust and crap you're breathing in, I'm curious how dangerous the job really is.

  6. Any updates as to what list number there up too?

No updates from DCAS yet. Considering MTA has a class date already set and the amount of applicants needed to fill the class, I would assume we should get an update soon.

Someone mentioned they had to go in for their first appointment and his list number was in the 270s. That was the last update we had.

  7. Yea @rskbreaker thats what i was sayin it to may ppl on the list for them to just delay it there gonna have to give the ppl that got the credits a different list number

We can only wait and hope for the best. Hopefully the recent change of events doesn't push you too far back on the list. Best of luck.

  8. I would assume that they can't start our list until the previous list expires which is in March of 2015. Would I be correct in that assumption?

Was there an official announcement when 5016 expires? I saw no reference to it in the 5016 thread and activity seems to have died down on the thread as well.

  9. The list is finally out. Call dcas 212 669-1357 for your list number. I'm 990 out of over 12,000

what was your percentage ? you must have scored more than 95% to get 990 on the list.

Sorry I forgot to mention I got 1 wrong on the exam. I believe it was 97.5%.
  10. Looks like we won't get results before July. http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/3600.htm
