  1. I just realized something. Since the (6) will have R62As, how will they change rollsigns between Parkchester and Pelham Bay Park?

Most times they don't. They just slap on a green led circle for the local and the red diamond for the express. However, if they did change terminals, the t/o would switch the signs at Parkchester or Pelham Bay Park to display the correct terminal.

  2. Wow, were checking that station out as well on the tour. As for the transit museum problem, they would have to store the trains somewhere else, maybe in Coney Island Yard or The Trolley Museam.

By the way, some one check out this map I found, it shows an extension of the (N) from astoria, a (9) train, a ($) train, A (T)(Y) train.

Did you see the (P) express train on the Canarsie Line?

lol this map doesn't make sense but whatever

  3. You should see how much in bad shape the R42s are in. At this point they are using adhesive back aluminum tape to cover up the rusted cracked carbodies like band aids or something. Now the R142As some of them actually have rust on them. Wondering now if overall this was the results of Hurricane Sandy (Saltwater corrosion)? Because this is exactly what happens in the tunnels itself as well as causing severe damage to the concrete benchwalls, roadbeds, and so forth. Nethertheless the main reason is clearly deferred maintainance. I know that the trains were stored underground but still...

This is why the R42s are being retired before the R32s.

  4. Could be a problem with an (A) train.

No. It was actually because the Fulton local line was getting delayed. I figured that out in the unplanned service changes forum.

Everything runs at 20 minutes at night, including the (6) and (7). If you really are unhappy, then maybe you can run the new (T) as Fulton Local. It's in my fantasy map.

I got a question. If the (T) get extended to the Fulton Street line, could it use the NY transit museum as platforms for the line? If so, could the NY transit museum be easily relocated to a different location of would it be too difficult?

  5. Lets bring it back a little old school.

1: I do not remember exactly what year the R142A's came out for the 6 lines.

2: What was the reason that the old 6 trains got replaced for the R142A's?

3: Now from what I am reading by several posts, people are stating that the current R142A's from the 6 line are being converted because the 7 line is undergoing track improvements or what ever the situation is.

4: I am just curious if whether the 6 line will ever get their subway cars back.

Let me answer this by answering one question at a time.

    1. The (6) got R142As in the late 1990s. The R62As from the (3) and (6) got sent to the (7) and the R62s from the (4) went to the (3). The (4) and (6) got the new technology and replaced the redbirds on the line.

    2. (Correct me if I am wrong) the Flushing line couldn't handle ntts in the early 2000's, so the (7) got R62As to replace the redbirds instead.

    3. The (7) is undergoing CBTC, which could be the reason why the R143s appear on the (L), or exist at all.

    4. The (6) will only keep about 60 R142As, and it will likely not get changed fleetwise once all the R62As get off the (7).

  6. Today  something VERY odd happened today. I rode a (D) train making all local stops on CPW and at 125 Street, there was a (C) train making express stops to Canal Street. When I rode the express (C) train, 50 Street had people there and I saw an (E) train at 42 Street. Does anyone know a reason why this would happen?

  7. I wondered, if the MTA invested in a tracking system where it shows how full a bus is, based on the amount of seats and fares paid:

Key West Transit uses that method:

Doubt it(because they are the (MTA)), but is seems like a good idea maybe email them to give them the idea.

Also, how would the (MTA) track it's passengers? The fare box? Sometimes, people sneak through the back and the driver doesn't even know about them. This is most common during rush hrs.

  8. I know it costs money but does anyone know when the MTA will install train arrival signs on the B division?

The B division already have it, but not for all lines. The (L) has it like the A division, but the other lines that have train arrival signs use them in a different way.

The IND Eighth avenue, IND Queens Blvd, BMT Broadway, BMT Astoria, and BMT 4th Avenue lines have at least one station with a similar function to the A division arrival signs. Instead of saying when the next train arrives, they tell you how many stations a local and/or express train is from your current station. As far as I know, the only station to say a specific line is 175th Street on the downtown (A) train only.

Edit: Apparently, another 267 B division stations are planned to be equipped with arrival signs as part of the 2015-2019 capital plan, but with the problems with the plans already, this is subject to change.

  9. The R179s are still delayed and as of right now the test train is now supposed to get delivered in July 2015 , due to the welding issues, If not cleared after testing and if the problem isn't solved it can be delayed even up to a year or more.

That's what I mean't. The R179s were to be delivered on December 2014, but got delayed to July 2015. I actually thought they were to be delivered last summer, but I think got the dates mixed up.

  10. I was reading nydailynews, and I just found out that the first R179 is expected by July 2015, a year later than it was originally supposed to be delivered.  I mean December of this year, the rest are coming Between July 2015 and January 2017.

  11. What do you guys think about this. Since the MTA are almost finnish with the (7) line extension to 34st-Hudson Yards, would it be better if they also extend the line to Lower Manhattan as an option or just leave the way it is now? Want to hear your opinion about this.

Bloomberg wanted the (7) to extend to NJ to connect to the NJT trains easier. I think Bloomberg has a great point. But even so, how long will it take for both Bloomberg and/or your proposal to even happen? 2040s?

  12. I don't see why they would need to swap the (4) and (6) fleets imo. What I could see happening is the (6) swapping its remaining R142as for the (4) r142s so all the r142as can be together on the (4) but let see what awaits my surprise

The (4) has enough cars to operate service, so the R142As should stay on the (6). The reason why I said switch fleets with the (4) and (6) was because there are enough R62As to operate only on the (4) and the (6) might need an increase in service because sometimes, when I look for R62As on the Lexington or Pelham line, there is as much as a 10 minute wait for ONE UPTOWN (6). But again, it would be unlikely because of yard experiences.

Also, the (4) has select rush Hour trips to/from New Lots Avenue instead of Utica Avenue, so R142s can easily switch it's signs to New Lots Avenue, but the R62as can't. Although I can see it happening at one point, something tells me this is one of the stupidest ideas I have.

  13. I know. By the time the last set is taken to be converted, there will still be r142as on the 6. Train for train, the 6 runs more than the 7. The 6 can't be all r62as unless the 1 ends up getting some r142s (3 is fine since there are enough r62s to cover the line). There is no need to anyway.

Why send the (1) R142s to the 240 street yard if the yard never experienced NTTs? The (6) will keep it's few R142As and run mostly R62As unless for some reason, the (MTA) decides to do a complete fleet swap on the (4) and (6) which will have only R62As on the (4) and nearly half R142 and half R142As on the (6). Like it was said before, any other ideas besides the (6) and (7) fleet swaps are VERY UNLIKELY to happen because of yard experiences.

  14. How come the Staten Island Railway has a fare difference from NYC Subway?

    * Each NYC Subway Station is 2.50 each stop, going to the destination

but on the SIR. I took the railway from Clinton to the Ferry and I have to pay $2.50 on the last stop

The two northern stops, St George and Tompkinville have an exit and entrance fee. All other stops are free to ride on.

  15. ALL of the 2 car R46s are assigned to Pitkin and can show up on either the (A) or (S). With 14 sets (including 6206-07), that adds up to 7 4-car sets (they must be connected to another to run in service) that can be found within those 2 lines.

Now the odds of them being on the (S) is low (but still possible, it has happened), so you'll have a better chance of finding them on the (A). They run every day with no problems with little to no second look at them.

Finding one on the road is as exclusive as finding a R142on the (2) with (5) stripmaps in it

Oh ok. But it still is my first time on a married coupled set, so I'd like to take a moment and save the image I got from it.

  16. A once in a lifetime experience would be something like the R68A running on the (R), or if the R68A (A) was sent down to either Rockaway terminal, or something. That the regular R68A (A) hasn't happened before doesn't make it a once in a lifetime experience.

Well we both have different perspectives of what once in a lifetime is.
