  1. Congratulations on Phase 1. The last three phase two classes have been the sixth Wednesday after the phase 1 test, so if the pattern holds your phase 1 test will be November 2 with phase 2 beginning December 11. Good luck in phase 1, you control your own destiny now.
  2. It does seem overwhelming in the beginning, but stay with it and eventually it clicks.
  3. Before phase 1 there's a physical abilities test. After phase 1, you repeat the physical abilities test along with a full medical and drug test.
  4. Phase 1 is not compensated and is Wednesday nights and Saturdays. Do not quit your job until you are confirmed for Phase 2.
  5. That's correct. Background check is between phases 1 and 2 now.
  6. Hey Steven, hows the studying going? As part of phase 2 you will need to memorize and draw the physical characteristics of the entire railroad, including every signal, switch, interlocking, etc. They probably showed you Hicksville at the open house, but if you Google LIRR physical characteristics, you'll get an idea of what some of these maps look like.
  7. You could always take out trip insurance in case you get called.
  8. I would definitely wear the suit. If you pass the two exams they will give you an interview afterwards and you will have an advantage over the many candidates there who will not be wearing a suit....or even a tie.
  9. Have you been in the cab of an M9 yet? I hear they're like Lamborghinis.
  10. He finished Phase 1 testing waited a year and then got a letter??? Oh man, that's rough!
  11. Good luck Saturday! Use your last day wisely and get a good night's sleep tomorrow night.
  12. Yes, absolutely keep applying! I applied a lot longer than 10 years before I finally got invited to an overview. Just keep watching the MTA employment site and this forum and apply each time they post the position.
  13. How does seniority control money? Pick of job with more overtime?
  14. Not yet. I guess no news is good news, but I can't say I don't stress every time I check the mail.
  15. I can't say enough good things about Quizlet. I made index cards but I found Quizlet to be so much more helpful, in fact, I wound up not even using the index cards. First I learned the Zona A aspects because there are fewer of them. I started by keeping them in the same order and after I was confident enough, I set Quizlet to scramble them. Next I learned the Zone C aspects. Same thing, first in order, then scrambled. Finally, I scrambled both Zone A & C together. It took me seven days to get to that point. With Quizlet on my phone I was able to practice a few aspects any time or place I had the chance. Waiting on line at Stop & Shop, I pulled out my phone and practiced a few signals. I would never have been able to do that with my index cards. You'll start seeing patterns and similarities and eventually it will click. Just keep putting in the time and you'll get it. One thing about Quizlet, if you decide to use it, don't use anyone else's sets. Make your own. All of the signal images are there, you just need to type the names and indications,
  16. Yesterday was the S&D exam for loco engineer. I think that's what JsunFlyguy is referring to, and no, they didn't tell us the results.
  17. Hope you did well on yesterday's test. Patiently awaiting the results!
  18. Good luck to those of you taking the S&D exam tomorrow! I'll be using the weekend for last minute review, but I'm ready for Monday.
