    (B) Suspended

    (D) Via 8th Avenue Exp between 59th and W4, and via the (F) between BwyLaf and Coney Island (Culver)
    (F) via the (Q) between Lex/63rd and Atlantic/Pacific and the (D) between Pacific St and Coney Island (West End)

    (M) reduced via 8th Avenue Local b/t W4 and 5/53; Rush Hours some to Chambers St

    (N) via Montague; Bwy Lcl, Rush Hours some to Whitehall St.

    (W) Suspended

No 8 Av Exp connection to the 6 Av Local at W4. You need to swap the C and D.

Then explain why the R68s cant push weight as fast as the 160s?.. You can have a local R160 (R) train running down 4th Ave going faster than an R68 (D) express train..

Actually I just checked: R68 car is 92,720 vs. R160 car is 85,200 lbs.. So you're wrong the 68s are heavy.

    8-cars of R68 is 741760. 10-cars of R160 is 852000...

On this 3-4-3 set, where would the conductor go?

Hmm, perhaps 4-3-3 so the conductor can be only 10% away from the middle of the platform. (Or recouple the last set too 5-2-3.) Regardless, I'm curious to know if they're capable of running sets with six A cars.

What I mean is to recouple the sets, for example recouple a few 4 car sets into 5 car sets. Then you figure out what to do with the surplus of trains

5 4-car sets could be converted into two 10-car trains as follows: recouple four 4-car sets as two 5-car sets and two 3-car sets. Then run two 10-car trains: 5-5 and 3-4-3.

I just got home from working about 15 minutes ago which would be 0650 hours and a friend of mines friend works at Bombardier in CNY & Upstate NY, to keep a short story short and my friend isn't a buff at all but said the "NYCT order for new trains was modified." Can anyone confirm this? This conversation took place last evening before I started my shift at 2200.

Nobody has confirmed this but it is definitely the word on the street.

Is it possible for the MTA to recoupe the R179's?

What do you mean? Do they get to keep the trains? If not, no way they'd do that. I'd be unsurprised if they do sue for damages due to having to keep older trains for longer, or some such.

Well, your disagreement with other forms of government does not delegitimatize them either. One could argue that the only right is might. As long as the U.S. government can defend its form of government, it can exist. Natural selection in its most fundamental form also applies to abstract systems like government.

Is that an ad hominem attack I smell?

    I jest, of course.

A Random thought question: Does anybody know about a R217 mock-up that I saw mentioned the other day that is to replace the R62As? two things I need:

    1. A confirmation about this &

    2. A clarification on it as well. (which means a photo)

Never heard of it. You probably mean the R211 mock-up in Hudson Yards, which will replace the R46 and older.

Democracy? How’s that working for the nation so far?

Just because I do not agree with the actions taken by my government does not delegetimize them, just as I think you are an idiot but would be deeply upset if this forum banned you. :)

    Let's get back to railroads.

So do we have to reset the 30 day Test if there is a broken window on the R179 or when someone pulls the emergency brake on purpose? Those issues are very minor plus you have the Bombarbier crew on the train helping out the NYC Transit workers to decide what to do with the issues?

My uninformed guess - especially for the passenger E-brake pull - would be "The train performed correctly and emergency braking was not a failure."

Well, it seems that this is just a matter of opinion. Some people would be all too happy to pay for it. I would reckon that a child who hates veggies would find eating a plate of carrots too high of a cost to get permission to go see a movie with friends, while another one has no issue with it.

I’m not saying China has the right balance, but it’s not as if our own beliefs don’t exact a cost. If we avoid the ruthlessness of China, we too exact a high cost in terms of infrastructure not available for use. I don’t know about you, but why should I wait until I’m 6-feet-under for usable infrastructure to be built with fair-trade labor, organically-fed workers, and kosher construction materials?

We live in a democracy, which means you have to get along with people who don't agree with you. Most people do not accept that cost, and so you don't get your way. Are you willing to work 12 hours a day for little to no pay to construct the infrastructure and then die when it fails? If so, move to China!

    Americans are idiots.....

Alternatively... because our government is responsible to the people it governs, whether we like it or not. E.g. China doesn't have NIMBY issues because vocal NIMBYs would be "re-educated." Single-party, totalitarian government is incredibly productive, but at too great a cost.

You need to have something run to 60th and Lex.  For many from Harlem and The Bronx in particular, that is still a major transfer point to the Broadway Line and if you have the (N) and (Q) both run to 96th, you have to have some line to run to 60th and Lex, which as I would do it would be the (R) (with the (N) doing such late nights).   Not many are going to want to do an OOS transfer between 60th and 63rd and I suspect trying to force that on people who use the Broadway Line to get to the Lex at 59th are going to complain very loudly.  That is why I do it that way.

If you have to have a Broadway service run on QBL in that situation, do it with the (N) and have that replace the (R) to 71st-Continental.  Otherwise, having the (G) and (M) on QBL is the best of a bad lot (and to correct my earlier post, the (M) would be 19/7 on QBL, NOT 24/7 though you could have the (G) and (M) late nights both terminate at Queens Plaza during those hours).

Running (R) to 71st also solves the issues of the (R) yard. I'm not sure what you propose to do about that...

I'll bet Queens riders (every single one of them) will complain a lot more loudly about losing a whole line of Manhattan-bound local trains (and no, (G) does NOT count...) than the Bronx riders who now have to transfer at 53rd, 42nd, or walk a short distance.

Blame those crappy R62As. Their narrower doors and hard to understand announcements are causing trains to sit at stations a bit longer than usual, which adds up over time. The (6) needs its NTTs back. I stopped using that train to get to/from Hunter College as a result. Their A/C has also been very bad. They should have stayed on the (7). It has a shorter route and mostly elevated.

but it also has CBTC, which requires NTTs...

First off, I'M A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT.

Second, I have a friend in school who complained about timers on the (A) line so that something

Chill - I don't think "high school kid" was meant as an insult.

You must have not taken the (J) recently...

It may not carry as much as the other lines on weekends but ridership is definitely not nonexistent. And with new developments coming on line near Essex St, Bowery and Broad St, it will only rise further.

not to mention the housing BOOM in williamsburg.

You wouldn’t consider running a (N) subway shuttle in Queens?

Where do you store the trains? The center express track?

I'd say it's worth considering running one with temporary platform edge extensions and A Division cars, it could even run to Hudson Yards off-peak.
