  1. Riders tend to deal with what trains get them from point to point even if its not an NTT. I mostly see officals and straphangers advocates do all the complaining about wanting new trains and what not.  Residents on the UWS have dealt with riding New Yorks oldest subway equipment of this modern era and yet I don't see them cry, kicking and screaming for justice. The R62A on their best day or realiable cars, thats been proven on the (1)(7) and even before on the (3) & (6) back in the day. It's just a matter of maintaining them well. I find it funny how people would curse the R62A away from the lexington line and even more funnier that they lay claim that the R62As are not bad on the (6), but please keep it away from the (4). It's the TAs call on what fleet gets assigned to what subway route. Changing divisions I hear all this talk about R32s going to the (M) and my only mindset on that is I'll believe it when I see it but getting back to the A division even if the R62As played a factor in the (6) declined performance in wait assessment, it is what it is and the fact in the matter is the R62A have to go somewhere while the (7) gets outfitted with CBTC.

  2. Westchester would take ALL the 142a's Mosholu has and in return they would have 62a's

That would make Mosholu 142/62a and Westchester 142a/62a

How mixed up is that really

All your doing is spreading those 62a's around more and send more NTT back to the 6

7590-7655 is what's left at Westchester currently

    So I say send them Mosholu's 7656-7810

    For 62a's

    Makes sense to me

Actually Westchester still has quite a bit of 75xx that are left before their conversion to R188. That whole mix fleet with both moshulu & westchester yards is not a bad idea cause Ive actually been strategizing that sort of plan as well.

  3. At this point in time, the R142s are needed more on the (2) & (5) primarily that's why the East 180th Yard Shop was renovated in the late 90s upon the arrival of the R142s. I think at the time the (1) & (3) didn't have a dire need for R142 equipment like the Lexington line since they weren't as crowded and R62/As werent even 20 years old yet.

However, I've heard and seen rumors that the (3) was suppose to get the R142s aside from the (4) but I'm not sure how accurate that info is in terms of fleet assignments.

  4. Since the # of 188s are increasing on the (7),

R142: 6301-6690 are out of 239 st, 6691-7080 out of Unionport Yard

1101-1250, 7081-7180 out of Jerome Yard

    R142A: 7471-7590, 7591-7655 out of Westchester Yard

    7656-7810 out of Jerome Yard

*The shuttle train's R62As has moved to Livonia Yard

The Shuttles R62As moved back to Livonia?

  5. I'm not saying i don't like the R62A (6), not at all. They do fit but i feel that the 142As fit the (6) more than they fit the (7). and the (6) did get some good 62As that corona put a lot of work into fixing up. And i do have to agree that Westchester didn't take much time with the 142As when it comes to maintenance, but i dont see Corona doing a lot for some of the conversions that they're recieving. Ride R42A conversion 7429 and youll see what I'm talking about. and even most of the new factory sets look like shit. but I'd rather have had the 142As from the (4) converted because, 1, they roster would be actually sequential if they ended at 7810, and 2, a lot of people out there want R62As back on the (4). And the(4) took much more care of their 142As better then Westchester did. I have no clue why I'm ranting but whatever. Everyone has their own opinion and this is how I feel.

It would be nice to have the R62As run on the (4) since it is an express route and less stopping at stations after stations like the local and maybe less stress on the brakes, but one can only dream. I agree that the conversion order should have been sequential with the R142As from the (4) since it has 7810 and down.

  6. But those R62A's after being on the (7) so long now back on the busy Lex line might not be good in the long run, those cars have been on busy lines for so long, perhaps swap them with the R62s from the (3) since those cars do rest and aren't as used up. But I don't mind the R62A's on the (6) just concerned with its longevity.

It's just a matter of maintaining them well enough to keep up with service of the (6) line. It'd be silly to think that Westchester is not gonna maintain them right out of spite for losing a majority of R142As conversions to the (7). I've noticed on the (6) especially on the weekends they don't use the R62As as much like on the weekdays, maybe Westchester can take that time to check out R62As durabilty or components.

This weekend though the R62As on the (1) will take a well deserved brake from service.

  7. Yesterday my M just stopped at queens plaza around 850 AM, ended up taking the 7 at QBP. Today I just took the 7 to avoid any issues.

Speaking of the 7, thats down between times sq and hunterspoint due to a rail condition, with a shuttle from tsq to 34th. Theres no getting away from the delays lol

    Never ends with the (7).

  8. normally i see like 3-5 but today i saw like 7 or 8 ...

They'll be gone from the (7) eventually, I have a feeling as we'll approach the end of the year into 2016 the swap between the R142A/R62A will pic up pace and you'll see even more R62As at Westchester and vice versa.

  9. I don't understand. What were you expecting Westchester to be, if not a sea of R62As?

What I meant was theres a handfull of R142As in service and only about five R62As in service this weekend. Im guessing is more about convenience of modern equipment if you get my drift.

  10. Extending the (7) to new jersey is money that could be use to building the 10th ave station or rehashing the ARC Project. IMO moving the (7) further to jersey is funding for more CBTC components & infrastructure etc... I quiet frankly dont ever see it happening in my lifetime and think theres other resources that would make more sense to fund like second ave subway or better yet maintaining the current subways infrastructure.
