  1. Yeah you are right, the (C) and along with the (A) hasn't seen anything new for years. The R46's were on other lines before they came over to the (A). The R10's did start and end on the (A) and (C) lines. They hit service in 1949 and ended in 1993. The R179 and the R211 has been a long time coming for riders. No more roll signs and broken LCD's in the case of the R46's. Bright interiors and automated announcements.

Yes I know they got R33's and R36's back in 1964 and 1965. I'm saying that In the 90's some bad sets started getting retired and some R33's and R36's from the other IRT lines went to the (7) until retirement in 03.

Well some of the LCDs on the R142As look like trash as well.

  2. Well the last time the whole (7) fleet got brand new cars straight from the factory was back in 1964. Those cars started retiring in the late 90's and the (7) received some R33's and R36's from almost every IRT line except the (3)(4) and probably (6).

In 2002 the R62A's headed to the (7) and in 2013 the (7) did get some brand new cars while receiving the hand me down R142A converts from the (6). So the next time the (7) has a shot at an entire brand new fleet of cars is the earliest 2040.

Probably a little later than that. I understand that the life cycle for a NYC Subway fleet is give or take 40 years but I would think that the MTA might extend the life cycle of the "converted" R188s to keep up with the newer 88 & C car sets. I know Corona takes care of their rolling stock so I believe the R142A/R188 conversions wont look so beat up, time will tell.

  3. There was a lot of crap going on with the subway today. (6) trains were held up at 86th forcing riders to go to 125th street to transfer to (4)(5) and (6) going expressway. The (R) train was running via the (F) line 63rd street line because of a switch malfunction. It also affected the (F)(M) and (E) lines. The (5) was temporarily held up earlier due to a passenger injury so it was a living hell commuting back to Queens from Hunter College. A 40-45 minute commute turn into over 2 hour and 30 minute one. I left college at 7:47pm and was not home until 10:26pm.

At least we got some rain lol.

  4. That's ridiculous.  I really think that the residents up there should go to their transportation meetings that their local community boards hold and raise hell and get them to get on the (MTA) about finishing those two stations.  I remember distinctly when those stations started being rehabbed and it's a disgrace that they still haven't finished them yet.  In fact you can argue that they're worse now than they were before the renovation.  The last time I was at 181st or 168th (I forget which one), I saw a rat on the tracks that almost as big as my size 13 shoe. Given how filthy each of those stations are from what is simply negligence, I'm surprised I didn't see more of them.

Well I can remember even from my childhood days seeing pigeons flying around in the stations still to this day.  Those stations are landmarks of the city and are the closest to illustrate a grander feel of the original IRT stations sort of like City Hall loop. A portion of the arch bricks at 181st St fell onto the tracks in 2009, you talk about 6 years with lack of progress. If Fulton Center station dowtown can have mutiple renovations within the last few decades just to make it look pretty and "unconfusing" then why does it take soo long to fix up these stations uptown. I think it's pathetic.

  5. Have they finished re-doing 168th and 181st street yet on the (1)

Nope. They are taking FOREVER with those stations and quite frankly it's like a third world country when using those stations.  The residents uptown have dealt with those stations being in disrepair for far too long already and during the summer months if your lucky enough at the 168th St Station the air vent is on for some fresh breeze but still inhaling asbestos & steel. They we're suppose to be finished by this year but I guess it's Wash Heights so the commuters their wouldn't mind the current state of those stations in their mind.

  6. IMO theres no need for stickers at all. I just hope corona doesnt put them on the R188s, the current ones on the R62As are hideous.

R62a 1791 had one of its stickers removed but I guess they gave up in trying to remove them.

  7. Is it just me or is there a wider gap at 14 St with the R62A's other then the R142A's?

I could be wrong with this statistics from wikipedia but,

    R62A - Width: 8.60 feet (2,621 mm)   Height: 11.89 feet (3,624 mm)  Platfrom height:  3.65 ft (1.11 m)

    R142A - Width: 8.60 feet (2,621 mm)   Height: 11.89 feet (3,624 mm)  Platfrom height:  3.6458 ft (1.11 m)

So either is you or is probably the few inch door difference between the rolling stock.

  8. Lately I've been impressed of how well the R62s kawasaki have been managing & performing. I've seen them with new trucks, some new lighting inside and their air conditioning seems more cooler as well.

I rode an R142A & R62 on the same day this summer and the way the AC on the R62 felt, it puts the one I felt on an R142A to shame.

  9. Well, they plan the (9) to go express stopping at 242, 231, 225, then go express to DyckMan, then go express to 96 St.

Well, they plan the (9) to go express stopping at 242, 231, 225, then go express to DyckMan, then go express to 96 St.

You do realize that they run about 30 trains on the (1) during rush hours. Having the (9) do this sort of express pattern IMO doesnt solve anything when you have a 4 to 5 minute headways. Plus, some (1) trains come directly out of 137th St layup to provide AM rush hour service.

  10. Has anyone seen the petition thats going around to bring back (9) service?

Uhh No. What's the whole point in bring back the (9)? You know this topic has been talked about so many times already it's like beating a dead horse. Enough already with the (9), it's been 10 years without it and haven't heard or seen a riot come up because the (9) was discontinued.

  11. About 16 more.

Actually I think there's about less than that. A few 74xx sets are currently at Kawasaki, one more 74xx 10 car unit left on the (6), plus 7501-7590 which in total is 10 unit sets left to go from Westchester to Yonkers.

I don't know about you guys but I thought I'd never the (6) line back to a sort of 90s' state with the R62As.
