how much does criminal history count against you? i got my conditional offer and there is a section to list convictions. I'd hate to get this far and be disqualified because of a criminal history.

When did you get the offer and what is your list number range?

Can they legally tell another human what to put in our body for a job? What if someone wants to wait to see the real side effects that takes years.

Bus Operator 9618’s Notice of Examination obviously didn’t include a vaccination requirement because there wasn’t a pandemic at the time, but I don’t think they can amend an NOE after the examination is complete. Civil Service has laws and regulations but I am not an attorney.

What I do know is you can’t be disqualified for a reason that isn’t listed under the NOE otherwise they’d be stepping on a slippery slope. What they can do is include it in their NOE’s for future exams. Thats just my guess.

I’m curious to know if they will require it for new applicants who are applying for the job and not for those who are already on lists.

I had to show up on for a drug test on Tuesday,  they never asked for the Covid questionnaire but they do check your temperature when walking in. I did fill out the questionnaire online the day prior before the appointment as instructed on the email. I would just show up and as long as your temperature is normal,  I don't think they will be any issues. I have heard people just showing up and revolving their issues as long as the list number was reached or skipped.

The drug screening was on Tuesday,  they said 3-90 days till they contact. Is it possible that I can make the class in October?

Not really sure but If they told the new T/W’s about incoming classes, I would say you’re golden for this month if not, it won’t be that long after!! Bet that commute hurt for you by the way lol

Seems like the Hiring sped up quick! Thanks for the info guys regarding vaccinations, also you mentioned they said they will hire 100 more track workers. Is that additional to the 300 vacancies they recently listed on the Civil Service List?  I'm just trying to gauge my chances of getting a call before January.

    List # 80x

You just never know with transit but I do hope that its very soon. The faster you guys get on the faster I can become a pineapple too lol

    Counting the days..

Training is 2 weeks in class 4 weeks in a yard. 2 week training in class room can be pms 3-11pm or Ams  8-4pm, depends on how they schedule it. The Yard training for 4 weeks is 8-4pm. You will be off sat/sun during the whole 6 weeks. Shift after training varies but for you will most likely be nights 10pm-6pm or 11pm-7pm in various  locations.

A lot of these types of questions have been answered a bunch of times in this forum already. When you get time just start from page 1 and read through everything. There’s a lot of great information in it.

You obviously made the main pick but for those who now get otj, do they have the juniors filling in for random gangs or do you stay with what you choose during the mini pick throughout the duration of when the main pick comes out? I want Bronx nights lol

To the guys that started class today, just wanted to know a couple of things.

    1. How many people in the class.

    2. Locations of OJT

    3. Have they talked to you about what jobs you'll be able to pick.

Wondering where things are in terms of where people will be able to pick since the main pick is now over.

How do you like the job so far dman?

(I thought someone else who is currently a TA employee was going to answer the question, that's why I'm late on posting an answer. My sincere apologies.)

I would first encourage you to read this PDF brochure about Drug & Alcohol testing. To answer your question, from all the drug tests that I've taken in the private sector and for the MTA, not only is this optional, and sometimes recommended, but they also tell you to take this with you in the event the Medical Review Officer (MRO) calls you.

As an example: I have a slight medical condition which I've had for over two decades and I take two medications on a regular basis. Since these are the only two medications I take, besides the over-the-counter Vitamin C, and once in a while Tylenol, Pepto Bismol, this, that, etc., I don't have to make a list of medications, since the list is short. I've had this slight medical condition for over 20 years and I've taken several drug (urine) tests and no MRO has called and/or said anything to me.

Another example: A family member of mine has to take over 5 pills on a regular basis, for several conditions, including high blood pressure. He always keeps an updated list of medications with him, in the event something happens. Therefore, if the MRO decides to call my family member, he will have the list ready right there and then, wherever he is, to try to figure out why he tested positive for drugs.

Going in for my drug test in a few days, my current job as a mail courier pays me $29.89 and once September hits I’ll be at $32 which my top pay at $35 (which would change within the next 2 years during the next contract) and my seniority is decent and I love my route especially where I live too! Now I’m here really contemplating wether it’s worth taking the pay cut or what. Im in a local aswell but im hearing nothing beats the city union. Is anyone else in the same boat as me who’s legit stuck. I wish MTA reached out too me before I got my full time position at my current job and now I got comfortable here too even leave to start over.. and btw with my current job I’ll be able to Transfer within the TriState and keep my same pay but with Trackworker I’m stuck in NYC . Just something I’ve been thinking longterm.

That’s what’s up. I do mail carrier as well with union and pension. I’ll do Track Worker because of the promotional opportunities (PDM, T/O) and there is something special about working maintenance with other people in a very large city, especially at night.

  9. Utano never mentioned layoffs, just that there may be some sacrifices. He only said this to make members aware of the dire situation. No layoffs. Terminations, resignations, and retirements with T/W will continue as it has been since 2018 with no new hires. Next year, headcount will start to hit the 1800-1700's if my prediction is right, and hiring will restart as it did with 3600. You just don't know how many guys are leaving or are planning on leaving. It takes a long time but patience. With COVID, this exam will just be extended so I wouldn't sweat it.

Nobody in mow got any letters about any layoffs and there is currently 176 trackworker spot short of man power as right now

The president on the local 100 website said members would be receiving letters about the current financial conditions of the MTA so I kind of figured everyone member would be getting them. Doubt there would be layoffs anyway.

    Thanks for the update!!!

I'm hearing on the news that they need 12billion to prevent budget cuts. I guess we're gonna be waiting even longer to get called off this list.

The financial ruin the MTA is experiencing right now definitely doesn’t help us with this list. I’m sure the headcount for Track Worker is way under 2,000 now as it was at 2,046 by the end of fiscal 2019 which was a little over a year ago and will only keep getting worse, especially with the union president mailing members about possible layoffs. Does this include MOW (Maintenance of Way), I’m not too entirely sure. This will encourage more people to retire though, who are eligible.

I'm close to you as well. Probably will all process together.

I was so worried when I saw my list was in the low 1,000s but apparently that's good.

Definitely will process together. Just patiently waiting for something to happen. We’ll help each other through all of this and hopefully we’ll be on those tracks soon enough!!!

When we get on we’ll get some good seniors I hope too. Wanna throw some new jack jokes? All good. Food is on me. Just teach me everything you know about the rails lol

who considered top scorers in this exam?  85 and up 90 and up 95- up,  I know 70 is the pass mark and i also  realize thousands of people also took this #8600 exam .So my question what score is within the range for one to almost certain to get a call to come in?

I would say anyone with a list number of about 1000 or below. You can also view those top scorers on the chiefleaders website. I would say anyone having a 106% through a 91% have a fairly well chance, if, things tend to repeat themselves. Anyone with these percentages will just have to play the waiting game.

Thanks, I'm actually in the 4000's I'm not sure how but I wont fight it. Im actually a track worker for Amtrack, it's my 1st year so I cant just transfer to mta. Just weighing my options. My friend applied for Conductor but was offered subway cleaner but her score was in the top 90's

Amtrak is a good job. It's always good to weigh in your options. I honestly wouldn't mind being a Cleaner (Stations), or a garbage picker as a Track Worker. As long as I get to quit my current job lol

From my perspective there is no new updates, however one of the things you can do is keep an eye on the Civil Service List Certification page by either typing your name or "Track Worker" in the search box on the top right hand side, followed by pressing "enter" on your keyboard. As soon as the agency requests a list of candidates, regardless of how many, the information will show on this website first before those selected candidates get a letter in the mail inviting them to report for pre-employment processing.

    Good luck everyone!!

They’ll get to us brotha. You still holding out for Surface or you giving it another shot? This is my last TA exam. It’s this or nothing for me!

Does anyone know what happens when they reach their eligible limit or four years has passed. Do they offer you another job or remove you off the eligible list. To try again at something else

When the list expires, you are no longer eligible for that title and you are expired. I know from my knowledge, with the old C/R list they were offering Station Cleaner positions, but that wasn’t the case with 3600 Track Worker. As opposed to C/R and Cleaner (Stations), the lowest MOW title is Railroad Track Cleaner, but that is now scarce. Unfortunate, but there are other ways to get OTJ.

If all goes well, the TA will most likely reach 3000 list numbers again, if all goes well. The title isn’t being phased out and there will never be a shortage of track maintenance, and surely SAP is still in place because that is part of the new 20-24 capital plan.

I see them just extending this list in the future regardless, so people with those numbers should have a fighting chance. There is of course a small percentage the TA will just not hire as many as they once have, but that is all according to how many guys are promoting and/or retiring, and how badly they want the system to continue it’s own demise. I’ll remain optimistic.

Does anyone know how many people got hired from the 3600 test and what number they stopped on?

On list 3600, 889 eligibles were appointed and the last eligible appointed was 384x. You’ll see this reflected on the next main seniority pick. From what I’m seeing it looks like a little over 56 eligibles were put in the last classes which you don’t see on the 2018 main pick sheets
