Does anyone know what the routing for this (unused?) version of the Bx23 would have been?

    Picture_002-me.jpg

More than likely two scenarios. One, via 5, 3, 4, then via Provost/Peartree Avenue, then 233rd (for the 5 train transfer), then via S5th Avenue. Two, if they wanted to keep it as a loop, it’ll have to skip the east side of Co-Op north of Asch Loop, but it would be 5, 4, 3, 1, and 2 in that order, but the same after section 2 to Mount Vernon (Peartree, 233rd, S5th).

Today on a B17 bus on the destination sign, it was alternating between the usual destination sign and a "October" sign with two pink ribbons on each side for breast cancer awareness.

Anybody else see this on MTA buses this month? My first time seeing it.

Just saw it on 8551, cool little thing they’re doing for the BCA. Shoutout to them.

The XD40s have gotten somewhat better as I believe some of them went in for their mid-life rehab, but still a very sluggish batch of buses. As for the XD60s, the Q44 just seems to be taxing on buses in general. Before they were replaced, the Nova LFSAs were also insanely beat up.

Those LFSAs ran way better than these 3rd gear merchants..

@B35 via Church I was going to recommend the North Jersey Coast Line to the #317 as another way to get to Philadelphia, but the first train gets there after the first bus already leaves. (The #139 to the #317 might be another option, though).

Also, for what it's worth, Amtrak has $10 fares to Philadelphia for the early morning (for example, booking right now for next Saturday, the 4:20am and 6:02am trains out of NY Penn are $10). I think it's something like anytime from 7pm to 7am is considered overnight, and qualifies for the $10 fare. (Unfortunately, the only route that starts there is the #30, which doesn't leave until 9:33am on Saturdays)

In any case, as far as buses actually starting/terminating in Center City, you have:

    * The #23 to Germantown/Chestnut Hill which starts at 11th & Market

    * The #44 to Ardmore which starts at 5th & Market (first bus out of there is 9am...first bus out of there that serves Narbeth station is 9:31am on Saturdays)

    * The #38 to Wissahickon which starts at 5th & Market (this one starts at 6:40am).

    * The #17/21/33/42 which start at Penn's Landing all the way by the waterfront (the #21/42 go towards West Philly, with the #21 going all the way out to 69th Street...the #17/33 are essentially each other's counterparts along 19th/20th Street, with the #17 going towards South Philly while the #33 goes towards North Philly).

    * The #5 to Frankford and #48 to North Philly (27th & Alleghany) which start at Front & Market (on the non-waterfront side of the highway)

    * The #61 to Manayunk and #62 to Andorra which start at 9th & Market.

    * The #12 to Kingsessing which starts at Dock & Front (a couple of blocks west from Penn's Landing, essentially directly over the highway)

    * The #9 to Andorra which starts at 4th & Walnut

    * The #16/31/124/125 which start at City Hall

    * The #45 to South Philly which starts at 12th & Noble (which is north of Center City, but not too far from the NJT stop at Vine & 12th...basically you just cross the highway and walk up a few blocks to catch the bus at the terminal, since it runs down 12th Street)

So coming into Center City, a good trip might be #23 to Chestnut Hill, L to Olney, hop on the Broad Street Line for one stop to Fern Rock Transportation Center to catch the #70 to Torresdale & Cottman, #56 to 23rd & Venango, #33 to Penn's Landing, #17 to Oregon Avenue, G to Baltimore Avenue, walk to 60th Street for the #46 to 63rd & Malverne, #65 to 69th Street station, #21 to Penn's Landing and then start heading home from there.

I had a run on the 21, man he was flying, one of the ZF D40s too, didn’t expect him to be moving on a packed bus like that.

  5. What in the blue hell has been going on in these last 5 or so pages? Thought I was reading a reddit discussion about who should be the next WWE champion with all the fighting going on..anyways

Rode the 211 on Saturday and it felt smooth. Believe it was a 4100 set too, nice to see these cars doing good in a city like this.

We definitely need the option sets, I see subway ridership rising between now and the last set coming in. As for the (G) becoming full length, I agree too, it should be 10 cars, but it’ll probably come with a service reduction. Those trains are packed and sometimes you have to go to Court Square to even get a spot on the train. I don’t wanna speculate car assignments but, hopefully everything is more uniformed instead of random.

What issues you have with the (4) ? Service wise I never had an issue with that line, train usually shows up when it's supposed to. My only complaint with that line is its too crowded in Manhattan.

I seem to always catch the (4) during its worst times..I can say I’ve had the worst delays with it (20 minutes or more multiple times, stuck in tunnels, reroutes), during various times of the day.

Septa is worst than the MTA IMO.

The subway is not that bad, the only NYC Subway route that truly sucks is the (R) . MTA is still the best transit system in the U.S.

Outside of NYC most USA transit systems are garbage in comparison.

NY Subway riders are spoiled IMO. The MTA weak spot is the bus system. A lot of awful service there, even then, most cities in the U.S have terrible bus service to the point where certain jobs won't hire you if you don't have a car. Try relying on public transportation in the south, yikes.

The (4) would love to have a word with you in terms of worst lines..but we are super spoiled in terms of service all across.

    That's awesome!!

Let's cross our fingers that these r211's don't get vandalized.

Vandalism in the subway is getting worse. The W is suspended and the B, D, F, N, and Q trains are delayed as a result of these vandalic actions.

Those who are responsible for vandalizing trains need to be arrested and if those vandals are teens, then their parents should be held accountable as well.

Well..from what I heard 4089 caught the bug.

Point there is this: Notice how I didn’t include the 34 since it’s getting cut off (potentially), and it doesn’t have nearly as enough riders as the 25 does (unfortunately. Think the main reason is cause it goes to Whitestone where there are more buses north of Main Street). I don’t see the 64 getting much riders PAST queens college into flushing IMO

Man the 34 is insanely clutch compared to the 25..so sad to see it go I guess. The 64 will probably not get that much going north into flushing, people would still probably rather catch something else.

Keep an eye out for possible moves throughout this weekend.

    • With the (M) only running to 57/6 there will be less trainsets in use.

    • These additional R-160s may be used for (J)(Z) service.

    • Additional R-179s may be sent to the (C) line;

    • An Instagram post by the MTA themselves states there will be a boost in (N)(R) service. While extra (R) service will be R-160s from (E)(F) as already discussed before it is inevitable the (N) will need trains from somewhere.

     • I witnessed 6072 within a full-length trainset deadheading Northbound passing Utica last night. There is a possibility that it may have been heading to Coney.

So, I intended to post this last night however my phone's battery didn't make it. As of posting this now there is one 8-car R160 along the (C) meaning there is certain to be a few trainsets moved around before Monday.

Heard there’s more than 1 160 on the (C) at the moment, also heard it’s permanent (at least until the (F) shutdown is done.

I just revamped the map of my (terrible) proposals I made a year ago. In this version I experimented with breaking up routes to improve reliability and avoid serving multiple disjoint ridership bases with a single route.

    PDF: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O2S3c3NDRbgXfH_oRwAFfIbeSaDuKxXl/view?usp=sharing

    SVG: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lVRDE5hga5xQu0x63f66ZL_xDcA0_D3H/view?usp=sharing

I did assume certain ideal situations, so a lot of my proposals honestly might not be realistic IRL. Assumptions include:

    • Archer Ave busway, Jamaica Ave returned to cars
    • 165th St terminal replacement is built on the other side of 168th St instead
    • New Flushing bus terminal built on the parking lot at Queens Crossing
    • Bus lanes along Hillside Ave and Northern Blvd east of Flushing
    • 160th St in Jamaica and 58th St in Maspeth become two-way roads
    • Maybe Queens Blvd buses get moved off the service road like we've been promised for so long
    • Buses have right of way when pulling out of bus stops
    • You get unlimited free transfers within 2 hours (even on the same route)

On my map, limited routes will have their stops shown as white circles, and there will be no local variant under the same designation.

The labels are a mess right now and I don't really have the time nor motivation to make it look nice like I did with the last version of the map, so hopefully this will do. I already see a mistake with a 64 icon being left near Citifield...

And here's a few proposed routings in the Bronx:

LOL IDK to JFK is super hilarious. Lol

Oh yeah, you know what else is idiotic? Replacing the 25 and 65 (that does EXCELLENT In college point on a daily basis) with the 17 and 27, like wtf is the point of that? They should leave the 27 as it is, and the 17, idk where exactly, but not college point.

The 25 and 65 is just like cubes of ice. They start off cold and nice and then about 10 minutes later they’ become watery and melted. Honestly, I think that’s one change that should be implemented.

I know there is currently a push to get more people to use public transportation due to the environment and what not. My biggest critique of this push for more public transportation usage is that service on some routes continues to run like dog crap when they shouldn’t.

I work Saturday mornings and every week I pretty much have to deal with dog crap service on the Q25 just getting to work. There was a 40 minute gap in service today during the 7am hour and when these buses do run normal they are packed and darn near making every stop. So when service run terrible like it does most weeks how do they expect people to continue to deal with this. That is why me personally I advocate for personal car usage because we have to get around and the MTA and NICE bus prove that they can’t be relied upon.

Thats College Point for you..shitty service and operators having the nerve to skip you when you’re clearly at the stop.

  14. I honestly think it’s best to just keep this specific thread about when these rail cars come in. A bunch of egos are clashing and know it all comments are happening and it’s showing the immaturity of some of the posters here. Moving on though.

Seeing the 211A/S coupled with each other is very interesting in my eyes.

And this is all why I would have worked to return the northbound side of Canal Street and Bowery on the (J) to active service and worked on making the (J) stop at Canal back into the terminal it once was with the idea of moving the <R> to Nassau and having the <R> run 95th-Canal on the (J) while the (J) with limited exceptions terminated at Chambers coming southbound (I noted how I would do this in numerous prior posts elsewhere and pols in Brooklyn were looking for the (R) to be split anyway).  Eliminating the (R) from Broadway for this, I would then streamline Broadway this way:

    (N) and (Q) remain as they are now with likely additional (N) service to/from Astoria.

    (W) becomes the full-time (19/7) local running from Whitehall to 71st-Continental (replacing the <R>) with overflow trains that can't terminate at Whitehall ending southbound and beginning northbound on the tunnel level of Canal Street.

If necessary, a new "Yellow (V)" would operate (maximum 5 TPH) between Bay Parkway on the (D) and Astoria to supplement the (W) in lower Manhattan that would be instead of having extra (N) service to Astoria.

This would IMO streamline Broadway and allow for extra trains from the Broadway line to operate via the tunnel to 71-Continental.

You and these weird fantasies..maybe you should be apart of wrestling creatives..

From the images, it doesn't look like it received frame damage. They would just need to replace the engine covers on the back and side, as well as the rear light panel.

Can you post the images? Hopefully the guy is okay too.

Great, now these trains will be delayed for another 5 months for wrap repairs 🤦‍♂️ what’s with people tagging trains, can’t they have anything better to do, there should be an FBI investigation and arrest the person for damage of private property and trespassing

It’s one simple cover. They do (or at least did) it for the buses, they can do it for the train.

Yeah, they are. I like the 179s too. All those dumbass kids still thinkin they’re lemons till this day. When I was in NY last month at west 4th I heard a couple kids complaining that they had to ride the 179 cuz they’re lemons. They ain’t lemons anymore. Y’all know why used to be lemons? 68s. Even 46s. But those guys proved that that can be reliable in their time. The 179s also proved that they are very reliable in less than 3 years after they got taken OOS. Tbh, all new techs are good to me. Especially them 188s. (Im not trying to argue with you, I said that I agreed) (Idk why I’m doing this next part but…) If I had to rank all the different rolling stocks in the system in my opinion, it might look like this:

SMEEs: All beautiful on the outside, but haven’t ridden any yet, 9/10

142/As: like the red stripes on all the A-cars, also like how their the first trains that kinda bring paint back to the system, 8/10

143s: Alright, but only serve one or two lines, 7/10

160s: Good god, I’m not talkin about those, 10/10

179s: Great, proved to us that they’re reliable, just like every rolling stock at their time, 10/10

    188s: GODLY, 10000/10

211s: Haven’t seen one but they do look good. They do waste a lot of dwell time though, 8/10

    Okay, back on topic

So because the 143s only serve the L and J, it deserves the worst rating..?
