  1. IIRC I think LIRR pays the most. I could be wrong.
  2. Where in NJ? I'm in the same boat as you, close to the city right over the Hudson in WNY, NJ. I have to report for my OPA on the 17th after waiting 8 years so I've got a lot of thinking to do. If I was single with no kids I wouldn't think twice about it. As far as accommodations I highly doubt it. The MTA is very punctual when it comes to time since the entire system revolves around it.
  3. That's basically my plan once I get my foot in the door (move up from c/r to t/o). Thank you for the insight.
  4. How crazy was it for you schedule wise for the first year or two? And how are you feeling so far? Stressful? Enjoy it? Did you get to pick a location based on where you live in the beginning or do you have to go to the yard they send you to? Thanks.
  5. I just got called for OPA on the 17th, all this time I thought this list was dead. Now I don't know what to do, part of me doesn't want to miss this opportunity but I'm also in a point of my life where I have a set schedule and a family. My list number is 94XX. Anyone in a similar situation? How do you manage family time/work balance?
  6. The waiting list for the previous exam #8094 given in 2008 expired this past February. I’m fully aware of the wait, not sure what you’re trying to imply here.
  7. That makes more sense. Perhaps they want to slow down and play catch up, since so many people already took the OPA and even the PE. Makes no sense to continue to send out PE a noticed until some classes from this year graduate. Remember not everyone that goes to school car will actually graduate.
  8. It’s in Brooklyn, however, training is held out on the field and that could be in a number of different locations.
  9. If I were unionized I wouldn’t jump either. For a lot of us that’s a big reason for wanting to get into the MTA. It’s not the greatest job in the world, in fact it’s quite the opposite. As as far as OPA results, they don’t take as long as what it took for us to get our official test results and list #. For those that started school car last month, I believe many of them took the OPA back in November.
  10. You’re the second person to confirm OPA notices for the 3K range. Awesome man. Good luck. 9K range OPA notices I’m thinking perhaps by the end of the year.
  11. I think so. Being that so many people took the test and lots of us share the same score, they needed some way to organize the list # order besides our names, so they’re using the 5th digit of your SS# for your spot. I checked for my name in the City spreadsheet and there’s like 8 other people with the same first and last name as me. lol.
  12. They’re in the 3K range for OPA notice already? Awesome. This list is moving quicker than I thought. I’m in the 95XX range and I was thinking at least another 1 1/2 - 2 years before I even receive a notice. No dress code for OPA but don’t dress like a bum either lol I believe the OPA is memorization and second part they present you with images and you have to respond to their questions about it accordingly You’re also recorded for your responses I believe this is more to gauge how well and clearly you speak Good luck man and congrats
  13. Take the promo and when MTA calls, split from your current job. I understand it looks a bit unprofessional but this affects you not them. MTA is a guaranteed unionized job with pension. To put it into perspective, I gave 10 years of my life to a company that in the end filed for bankruptcy and threw me to the side (along with most of the company) when all was said and done. Also on a a side note, you will not be able to have your current job and also take school car training. School car training lasts 6 months I believe and it’s an all day thing (sometimes nights as well). Hope that helps.
  14. Dude where can I look into this? My father in law was a doorman for years. Recently retired with a pension but I hear it’s incredibly hard to get into. If you do it’s via relative or good friend.
  15. While that could be the case, I would remain optimistic. Continue to live your life and apply to other city positions within the MTA. In contrast, the last conductor test # 8094 just expired this past February. Mind you that exam was given back in 2008 which a few of my friends took. One already moved up from conductor to TO by 2012.
  16. Probably in another 1 1/2 years. I got 92.5 and my # is 95XX so I’m looking at 1 1/2 - 2 years. But who knows, it could be sooner. Many people may drop out for a number of reasons, (drug, medical, another job/no longer interested). So it could move slower or faster depending on their needs at the time.
  17. Yeah that’s tough. But you’re right, the only difference is the pension. But you’re also 2 1/2 years from potentially making 6 digits, which is nowhere near MTA.
  18. Was that for the 8094 test? Or a different one? That’s horrible man.
  19. Well then if that’s the case that’s fukn horrible. Why even bother putting people though all that? I apologize man, I would be heated too.
  20. The fact that you took 2 different drug tests and they never called you back on either for the medical portion only tells me that you came back dirty. No reason to be upset with the MTA over that if that’s the case. I can’t think of any other reason they would do that to you.
  21. It appears notices are going out. Received my list # in the 9XXX with a 92.5 score. Althoufh I already checked via the link provided (thank you to whoever posted that). From the looks of it a lot of people passed. I’m counting on it to be years before I ever get called. IF i ever end up getting called. Oh well. Good luck to the rest of u guys.
  22. Guys, please, PLEASE be patient. Just because you didn’t receive your OPA letter and you have 3 wrong doesn’t mean the world is going to end and you have to freak out. So far we’re all going on information based on the responses posted by those who already took it which are on this very thread. Not official word posted on the MTA website or notice, by word of mouth. Patience is virtue. 30K people took this test. Top 2200 are getting notices sent from now until the end of the year based on what another member posted. Again, we’re going based on word of mouth and nothing official from the MTA. Hell, the official list isn’t even established yet. I understand people are lookin for answers but it gets quite annoying when people keep asking the same questions over and over again. I would also expect many people to be anxious if an official list had already been sent out, but that’s not the case. Read the thread, get an idea of your score and where you’re at on the list and WAIT. The lucky ones who already took the test are reporting that it may be months still until they actually start, after background check, official list and everything else involved in the hiring process. If you can’t wait a few weeks for your notice I’m pretty sure you’ll jump out the window if you have to wait a year. Have some damn patience, this anxiety isn’t going to help when it’s your turn to take your OPA and you end up screwing yourselve over. I have a 92.XX with six wrong. I’m not expecting anything from the MTA until well into next year. If I was anxious for a response I would have slit my throat by now. The world continues, keep grinding, apply for other positions in the MTA while you wait in order to get your foot in the door. Stick around with you POS job that u might not like or find something better until your time comes. What I’m trying to say is to not put all your eggs in one basket and be patient If you got a good score your time will come Make sure your address is always updated with the MTA. /end of rant.
  23. Just for that I hope you make it in man. If all goes well for me perhaps we’ll meet on the other side when this is all over. (Underground not afterlife, relax lol). Good luck. I have a few friends that work for the MTA as well. In fact it was a good friend that pushed me to take the test. He started as conductor as well and within two years got promoted to T/O. Which is way easier than taking the T/O competitive from scratch.
