There is no way this tourist is going to download Fast Fare app to be a model citizen . For one thing, the bus tracking sucks, which I have on my phone. Some of the buses don't appear. Even when the bus does, the next stop or two down the line says "No Prediction" or something like that. So you usually have no notice when the bus will show up and the Fare app only makes the fare active for 15 minutes.
Which Phase number permits front door boarding ?

I am headed to Suffolk County for a weekend in late July . I assume it is all rear door boarding, therefore free. How much longer does anyone think that will last ?

I believe so, why else would they have an OMNY account online?
True, but maybe that is for Smartphone, debit, or credit cards only. Notice the usually associate the future OMNY Card with those who want to use cash.

Once the OMNY card comes out, can the account be funded by your computer like PATH and WMATA's cards are ?

People need to buy RFID protector sleeves or cards for their Contactless credit cards that are not for OMNY use when travelling, and also watch where they wave their Smartphone around. There is nothing an OMNY system can do about that.

The are only doing WIllets Pt for baseball and tourist don't have to buy Metrocard.
They are still leaving out 5th Ave/53rd. Too bad still no Jackson Hts subway complex.

9 stations should be easy to hit with the speed of installation.
The February list still hasnt been released.
Do you think Feb emphasis will be Booklyn or the Bronx ?

It probably also has something to do with New York's insatiable desire to see something new (*cough* subwayfan1998). To a degree I can sympathize with that, considering having to look at the same decrepit stations day after day can get tiring. I feel that if OMNY was implemented with current-standard LCDs it would put a damper on the media hype. Remember, you also have to buy over New Yorkers and convince them that this project is actually worth it.
Now we can enter the Chambers Street station via a lovely OMNY LED screen, then wait for a J train at the rat den and cesspool of of a station.

How far off are the non-SI buses ?

I find it a bit funny that Visa/Chase invested millions into the OMNY system but then they don't do any promotion. MasterCard on the other hand, is running the Fareback Fridays promo. Visa probably cares more about issuing contactless cards first and foremost so consumers can spend their money on things other than transportation. Just my thoughts.
Maybe their contract says they cannot make promotions. VISA and Mastercard are brand-names and don't issue cards - banks do, and only several large banks offer Contactless cards.

I honestly have no idea how I messed that up lol
Thanks for catching thatIt was the 7th item on the list. With the 7 on your brain, you thought of Seventh Av / 53rd.

OMNY in theory could allow any number of transfers since the fare is calculated on a fare engine server.
However the Metrocard currently has some 3 legged transfers programmed today
I think with NICE buses. But I am thinking of a trip like S79-subway-Q35, now 2 fares.

I thought I read somewhere, but forgot where, that OMNY will allow 2 transfers rather than 1 with Metrocard. If that is so, does that mean Bus-Train-Bus can be done on one fare, or only means Train-Bus-Bus ?

If they add the expense of random inspections personnel to non-SBS routes, they will blow their operating budget.

"All door" means just 2 doors. There are no artics on SI. How will the bus driver ensure that everyone boarding at the rear door has tapped without him/(her) being right there to watch ?

They need not report on mounts, but on the finished product., and they seem to be completing 1 or 2 stations per weekday.
Without reading this blog, which 99.99% of subway passengers do not , one would have no knowledge of any subway expansion beyond 42nd to Atlantic Av on the Lex. They are suppressing OMNY usage.
Only more frustrating is the glacial progress US banks are in producing Contactless cards, so Smartphones are 80% of the OMNY market.

Shouldn't the MTA OMNY website be maintained daily about progress for the general public ? They seem content to leave it frozen with their original launch date of last spring.

My only question about having 86th for the SI buses is where are those riders heading to/coming from. Is it people who don’t want to take the ferry and can’t afford the Sims?
I don't know. But I wouid think people who are headed for mid-Manhattan, and transfer off the R train somewhere along 4th Av for a Bridge train. The Express buses are too expensive, and they don't want to sweat out the Ferry or Whitehall Street/South Ferry and board a local 1 or R. .

It does make sense for them to focus on the most used stations first.
Yes, but now we have Franklin S - Canal St - Houston St on the #1. They seem more focused on the IRT, not natural extensions like 86th / 4th Av Bklyn, or the busier 42nd St PABT
