After some perusing of this forum, I get the impression that the list won't be established until the OPAs are complete. I'm hoping that the OPA is a pass or fail situation, as I would not want the OPA results to affect my position on the list...

Not trying to be harsh but if you read the conductors thread you'd find your answers. We already discussed the OPA and what to expect, no need to misinform and get the candidates for the T/O exam hopes up.

Ok so the most important info is get there early, you want to be one of the first ones in the lobby so you can be the first one on the elevators so you can be the first one off to get a lower seating number, I had a low number and was out by 10am 730am test.

Next one of the test monitors came in and said that 37000 people took the test but not all will come in for the OPA, she said it would lead to tassels taking $25 from people that they don't expect to pass the test or make the list and not get called

Next the supervisor/manager said the OPA  is a completely different test that is pass/fail and if you pass it does not factor into your first exam score however fail and your gone

Next, my personal experience is I feel the first part was easy, however I thought the second part was hard,Of course I can speak and understand English but I feel as if you don't say exactly what they expect you to say, it might hurt you.

Any who in whoville that's my input!

You took the words out of my mouth. I feel the exact same way as you. I felt like I gave the 'correct' response but I didn't say it exactly how they expected like from the example given at the beginning. I feel like I breezed through the first part though, I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping everything goes well.

And lol I stated it earlier in this thread to make sure you're early getting on/off the elevator. It's going to suck being number 30 to be called lmao.

Long time lurker here.  Just wanted to share my thoughts on the OPA.  I got 1 wrong on the first exam and took the OPA on 10/3.  Going into the OPA, I was worried about the memory test due to my horrible memory, but I felt it wasn't that bad.  I just closed my eyes and listened. I may have gotten 1-2 wrong. The speaking test on the other hand was much more difficult for me.  My mind went blank on like 3 or 4 of those.  Now I'm worried about my results.  Also, they said about 37,000 took this test.

Not trying to brag at all, but I agree with you. I found the memory part very easy and it's surprising to see the amount of people on here who said they found it difficult.  I'm kind of nervous about how I did on the speaking part aswell, but I think I did fine on that. I noticed when I answered one of the questions the monitor nodded her head in agreement and I felt like I answered question appropriately.

We're always our own toughest critic so we just have to tune that negative energy out. I'm sure we did fine.

What is there to be nervous about if English is your first language? I can't see them expecting you to cite Shakespeare or anything crazy.

There are so many MTA employees who are foreigners where English is their second language. I can't see this being difficult at all.

Not only that, you just need a passing grade, nothing like the first exam where you need to get at least a 95 to get called.

I have to admit though,  I was surprised how difficult they made the 1st exam.

I thought we had to phrase the questions in a specific way when asked. I didn't, I just responded directly to what would I do. They tell you what they expect and gave an example of the way a question was answered and admittedly I wasn't paying enough attention. Though it's not excuse I woke up at 4:50am so I was out of it.

But judging from the responses here it seems like I'm overthinking it. I did answer what would I do and I know it was relevent to the situation at hand, and I tried my best to speak clearly. So again I could be overthinking it.

The memory part was pretty simple aswell. If it sounds important it probably is and attention to detail. That's basically it.

  5. Took my OPA this morning. Like previously stated there's two parts. Don't want to get accused of cheating so I'm not going into specific detail. Sorry.

Overall I felt like I did good. A little nervous about what they're grading us on for the 2nd part, but Jake gave me some clarity. The monitor did say that our results will be mailed to us, but she didn't say when. Hopefully we get it next month.

Tip: When you get off the elevator on the 4th floor make sure you're one of the first people on the line when they tell you to line up and show your money order. If not have fun waiting for everyone else to finish their oral exam while you wait bored to death lol.

ugh, I'm going to have to email these MTA guys again to verify my mailing address. already did earlier this year and when I went to email them again today to verify, they said they just updated it to the new address now. that said, they did say the following:

Your address was updated. For your information, the list for Conductor has not yet been established. You should receive your letter of results in the mail within the next 6 to eight months.

I wouldn't worry about that. It seems like different workers give different answers it's very disorganized. Someone posted a couple pages back the exams unit replying that the list was supposed to be established by the end of this year, and judging by how the top scorers have been getting letters to come down for the OPA one can insinuate that they have the 'final' list ready.

I go in for my OPA tomorrow. I'm not worried so much about the actual speaking, but the oral memory part has me a little nervous.

To the people that's asking about talks of classes or hiring, there was none because we're still in the exam phase. If u don't pass this part of the exam you are not moving forward. Its like process of elimination. I believe once every one that pass the first part of the exam is done taking the OPA, then a list is created. You can start getting excited once you are called from that list. For now just focus on passing the OPA. By the way, the OPA is a pass or fail and it will not be combined with the first part of the exam . I asked the exam monitor.

You mean the actual speaking part is pass/fail? The NOE states a score of atleast 70% is needed to pass. Also, overall did you find the entire exam to be difficult or straightforward? Sorry for bombarding you with questions I'm just curious.

  8. Damn. So you guys are going for the business casual look? I was planning on going in black jeans, boots, and a sweater lol. Might have to rethink it. I may email the exams unit if anything.

@Jake I don't want to go shopping either since it isn't really an interview, but I don't want to screw up either and bring any unwanted negative attention down at Livingston. Can you guys going in on Monday let us know what should we wear and what to expect on the OPA? I go in on Wednesday.

Damn you guys are lucky who got 2PM, they want me to be there at 7:30AM. I go to sleep at 2:30AM normally so will get almost no sleep.

Lol. I get up around 6:20AM everyday for school so I'm somewhat used to waking up early. I'm going to wake up at 5am the day of the exam though. Are you scheduled for the 4th? If so we may bump into each other.

  10. Thanks for the link, Young. So it isn't pass/fail a score of 70% or higher is needed. I'm hoping that they tell us on the spot whether we passed or not and more importantly I hope we're successful.

I'm just glad things are starting to move and thankful to have received a letter. I'm going to try and participate in class as much as possible these next two weeks lol.

  11. I'm sure after the oral exam you'll still have to wait until next year after the current exam expire in feb. 2018 so I'm sure you have time. MTA is just probably starting to get things started now so that they can jump straight into #6601. So I say continue to move forward with your day to day. I'm sure everything will work in your favor. Best of luck my ninja!

Hopefully it works out that way. If anything I'll do as you stated to the other poster and have my name reinstated. Thanks for your encouraging words and good luck to you aswell.

  12. The dilemma will come when I get a notice for T/O. What do I do if I already started the process for Conductor

As Matt said take this first if it's offered and then go the T/O route after you passed your probation.

I'm facing a dilemma as well. I wasn't expecting to start the process this year since the exams unit made it seem like we won't hear anything regarding this exam until next year and now we got our letters to start the initial process. I'm hoping that if I pass everything and get hired it won't be until next year after I graduate. I have to let one of my professors know that I have to miss class to take the oral assesment next month. I don't want to miss out on this opportunity since transit won't wait they'll be onto the next person, but I can't just drop out and pursue this job because of the finaocial aid I recieve and the contracts I've signed. I'll be in some deep sh** and I'll have 51 credits by the end of this semester anyway.

  13. I'm very excited they're moving forward with 6601.

I haven't received my letter yet but I didn't score that high.

Do the letters indicate drug testing or medical screening? Or just going in for oral proficiency?

Just the Oral assessment. We have to pass that to move forward in the process.

  14. I have one wrong, and I just received the letter today. For those wondering, the acronym OPA does refer to the oral proficiency assessment. (silly me, I thought it was a test that uses the the oropharyngeal airway)

Yup. I got 1 wrong also. I have to report to Livingston on October 4th.

**Just got mine in the mail, I'm glad to see the ball moving on this, but in starting to get nervous lol.

  15. I know this may be off topic but I can't get my head wrapped around on why the (A) "needs" or will be assigned the odd ball amount of R-179's. Yeah I know there are odd balls on the (A) already a Hippo or two and the workhorse but why not Jamaica get the few cars thus making that yard exclusively NTT and that would move the R46's that pop on the (F) every now and then or the few on the (R) making Pitkin entirely R-46's.

So what I'm trying to say is:

    207th (C) 100% R-179 eventually

    Pitkin (A) 100% R-46 (currently is 95% 46's with the odd Hippo or two + a 32).

    Jamaica 100% NTT?

I know nothing is set in stone and subject to change as we know from past experiences and situations but it would be more uniformed having one fleet of R types to maintain rather than a few.

Those 10 car R179's won't be enough to make Jamaica 100% NTT unless I'm assuming you mean CI gives up their R160's to Jamaica? And if that were to happen what are you going to do with the excess amount of R46's? Put them on the C?

  16. Idea:

    (C) gets the R68s from the (N)(W), (G), and (B), along with the five-car R179 sets.

    (J)(Z) and (G) get the 8-car R179 sets.

The remaning R32s are assigned in the former R68 slots on the (B) and (N)(W).

    Basically it'll look like this:

    C: 14 R68s and 4 R179s

    G: 13 R179s

    J/Z: 15 R179s and 5 R160s

    B: 19 R68As and 6 R32s

    N/W: 30 R160s and 3 R32s

    A: 37 R46s and 1 R68A

This will allow the (G) to be 8 cars and the (C) to be full length.

What are you going to do with the surplus of R160A-1's under this proposal and aren't the R32's banned from the B,D,N,Q, and R lines?

  17. The Additional R160-A 1 sets will just increase capacity or sit out while other trains operate, what do you think I'm supposed to do, put them on the (G)??? Cause that'll be weird

Operations planning isn't done based on whether or not something will be weird to transit fans; they're done based on what's practical and makes the most sense. One again, your suggestions don't make sense.

  18. Anyways, back to the R211's, They should be 5 car sets and 5 car sets only. R179's will currently be on the (A)(C)(J) and (Z) lines. Once R211's come in and replace ALL R32's and R42's and some R46's, all R179 (C) trains can go on the (J) and (Z) and the (C) can have someone R211's. The rest of the R211's can go on the (A)(R) Rockaway (S) and (SIR), if any extra R211's come in then .......

They could go on the (D) or replace the R68 on the (N)(W) or the (S) in Franklin Avenue

Sent from my SM-G386T using Tapatalk

If all of the 4 car 179's go to the J/Z what are you going to do with the surplus of R160A-1's? Also, the R68's don't need to be replaced in the immediate future either so why are you putting them on the D?

Your plan doesn't make sense nor is it worth it financially.
