They aren't adding that many trips, just a few trips here and there. If anything I wouldn't be surprised if they were used to retire the remaining 2005-06 MCI's on the property at MTA Bus.

Nah, these are high mileage coaches, won’t retire nothing, probably just to fill in some service for service increase or to replace MCI’s we’ve lost here and there. Replacing high-mileage coaches with more high-mileage coaches isn’t exactly a winning solution.

Any reason why? Plenty of people use that passageway, especially from LI to Yankee games and from the MNR region to Mets and Islanders games.

I think it may have to do with GCT trainshed reconstruction but not entirely sure. Just a hunch.

What are you all talking about? North End Access never connected to LIRR, as far as I’m aware. You always had to go via the lower level of GCT or via the Biltmore Rook to access LIRR.

Nah there’s an entrance to LIRR if you walk straight down 42 Track go down the stairs and hang a left.

I got this email, which confused me, from the MTA. Does this mean you can still transfer from GCT to GCM outside of those listed hours, but there are fewer options? Im not sure which passageways they are referring to that will be closed?

Starting April 29, the LIRR and Metro-North cross-passageways north of 45 St in Grand Central will be open on weekdays from 6:30AM to 9:30PM and closed on weekends and holidays.

Note: The 47 St/Madison Av entrance will remain open for LIRR riders, but access to Metro-North tracks will not be available on evenings and weekends. To transfer between Metro-North and LIRR, use the Dining Concourse or Biltmore Room escalators.

Please allow additional travel time.  .

Yea. It’s the passageways that are towards the north end of GCT. Essentially less options to transfer between Metro-North and Long Island Railroad. Pretty much the main terminal buildings will be open.

  5. I was going through the LIRR capital dashboard and under the Rolling Stock portion, it says "Purchase Dual-Mode Locomotives" and "Purchase Coaches" and the description of them are: "This project includes the purchase of approximately 12 replacement revenue locomotives." and "This project includes the replacement of approximately 17 Diesel-Hauled Coaches." respectively. As far as I'm aware, they haven't announced who their supplier for 12 replacement revenue locomotives is but if I had to guess it will likely be the Siemens Chargers as an option order under Metro-North's order. I know that 12 isn't likely the number that they'll end up purchasing but I'm guessing the DE/DM30AC replacement will be done in separate orders or phases. The more surprising fact is the replacement of 17 diesel-hauled coaches which would be the C3's but I don't think the C3's are in need of replacement since they're only about 25 years old and normal coaches can go till about 40 years and I don't think any of them have been involved in serious accidents. Perhaps they're seeking supplemental diesel-hauled coaches or this is simply the summer seasonal lease which I don't think it would be on the Capital Dashboard.

This is just my belief but I think the MTA doesn’t order mini buses due to the flexibility that running standard sized buses offer. The Bx46 could get away with the smaller buses but what happens if West Farms is short on standards and artics for the Bx6 but all they have are these mini buses ready to go? There are only a few routes that get low ridership so I don’t think having 50-60 mini buses in the entire system are worth it.

NICE Bus pulls that nonsense from time to time where you’ll see a mini bus on the n6 or n22 but that wouldn’t cut it in NYC.

This and some trips are interlined as well. Some small cutaways might work on one route and not another. You could have it so that the bus stays on one route while the drivers do reliefs but that’s not always possible.

Just got called to take the Metro North Locomotive Engineers test and from what I read in this forum it says the test is about 5 hour. The email I received said the test is an hour have things changed for testing for the job  just curious if anybody knows anything would appreciate it

    Thxs

If you’re fast and you know the material, you’ll definitely be out by the hour if not 2.

Wait,I thought that R46 6214 was in long term storage. Since when did it get retired?

When its mate got mated with the other wrecked set and they put 6062 out to pasture. They parted out 6214 as well.

Which routes are being moved out of KB (which depot will get them)?

The buses themselves will be physically parked at Gun Hill (artics) and Manhattanville (standard). Operators are told to report 1 hour earlier than their assigned time to get shuttled there where they will pick up their buses and deadhead to their respective routes.

With the fare-free program that happened just now ending in March 30th, I wonder if the Q5 took most of the ridership off the Q85 to and from Green Acres Mall due to the fare being free.

I thought only the Q4 was free?

Thanks for the advice, Daniel. I'll definitely make those cards then. If you have any more to share I'm all ears

I would also add to read the definitions and indications aloud. This way as you break it up into chunks to memorize, your mind subconsciously fills in the blanks when you stumble through the definition. For the longer ones like roadway worker, break it up, don't try to memorize it in its entirety. It will seem impossible at first but the more you do it, the better and more accurate you'll be. If you study for 2-3 hours day, you should know it all a week or two before the test and at that point, it'll just be review.

Sounds like we're on the same frequency here. Focusing on the definitions and haven't really touched the signals yet. Its kicking my butt but after giving the signals a light run through, they look a lot easier to memorize. Right now, I'm struggling to forget about trying to learn the definitions and instead focus on just memorizing them, but I know I'll get it down. Not sure i wanna use physical flashcards for the signals though maybe the whole process of making them would help with memorizing them. But rn the plan is for the next week and a half to focus on definitions then the rest of the month on signals and reviewing.

I would suggest making flashcards for everything. The way that most people's minds work for memory is simply through repetition and even making the physical flashcards helps to get that memorization process started. When you know you get it right 100% of the time, put it aside and cycle through the ones you don't know. After you get them all, put them all back together and make sure you can do it 100% accurately because 99% right is 100% wrong!
