I might be seeing things, but I could have sworn I saw an MTA Prevost (one of the older, white ones, maybe an SI unit) NIS with the destination signs displaying "Columbia University". I did a triple take to make sure it wasn't a Columbia U bus or other private carrier/charter, and I am 99 percent sure I saw correctly. Anyone know anything about that?

I would not be surprised if the MTA did some private charter shuttle on the side. Maybe it’s for a sporting event for Columbia and they didn’t have enough buses but I find that a little hard to believe since most of Columbia’s shuttles are weekdays only. The other day I was waiting for the Q66 and a bus from Casey Stengel drives by with the sign “Vietnam Veterans Memorial Shuttle” and it had a sign in the window saying “Shuttle Bus” no idea where it was headed but I saw it start up on Roosevelt and head east and 3-4 mins come back west. The Columbia shuttle could be used maybe for open houses to supplement extra service for the influx of visitors. I know the MTA also operates the Dragon Boat Festival shuttle buses from Mets-Willets Point (7) to the festival grounds.

I do have a lot of customer service and cash handling experience and I did highlight it in my resume. I have worked for NJ Transit as a bus driver for 3 years now.

It's pretty much a waiting game at this point. Did you apply for Locomotive Engineer as well?

Anyone from NJ applied Metro North and got called in ? I’m just applied for a second time for the Assistant Conductor position. Applied earlier in the year but got no response back.

Did you try tailoring your resume to fit the job description? I'm pretty sure the resumes are put through a software that looks for keywords such as customer service and cash-handling experience. Once it gets good match, I think HR manually reviews them and sends out a study packet for you to take an exam.

Yes and no...I've had minor incidents where nothing really happened to me. Though the other side of what you said also has some truth.

If I hear correct, it's 10 years for 4 weeks vacay. If so, then we have you guys beat bc I have that already.

You get 3 days for a fatality. You can go out IOD for trauma for that here.

For vacation, if I heard correctly, I believe it's 2 weeks for the first 5 years and then they add another week every 5 years for a maximum of 5 weeks of vacation time so it's about the same as you guys.

We fall under railroad retirement which is sorta hard to explain so I'll link the presentation: http://arsa.mnrr.org/doc/MTA_definedPensionPlan.pdf

    Begins at slide 12.

Even before the last of the M9s arrive, the LIRR has already fallen behind on its next fleet of train cars, known as the M9A. When it first announced plans for the cars in 2016, the railroad said it expected to have them in place for the opening of Grand Central Madison — then predicted to happen in 2021. But the LIRR has yet to award the contract for the new cars, which railroad officials have said would allow them to finally retire the M3s.

The MTA has said the delays are due to changes in market and supply chain conditions, and issues related to COVID-19

Kawasaki must be absolutely swamped with the R211A/T/S. I would like them to choose someone else for the M9A's but there's such limited options to choose from and going with somebody from the outside may be even worse as they'll have to play catch-up. Hopefully, Kawasaki gets into the swing of things.

https://www.newsday.com/long-island/transportation/lirr-train-delay-m3-hd3aguzf Yeah, not getting any better as predicted. May 2024 deadline still sits. One more pair to be accepted for the year.... It's been a decade already since the reward... On the other side of things, the number of M9As predicted to be needed as part of the 20 year plan has gone up to as much as 340 units. Alot more than the base 160.

Mind quoting the article? Some of us can’t get past the paywall.

maybe the increase in M9A’s is due to Metro-North tacking onto the order. I heard they weren’t going to participate, then they were going to but based on the 20-year needs assessment, I’m pretty sure they will.

So I'm  a current Train Operator with NYCT with almost 5 years in...just applied to the latest Engineer posting.

I love operating here at NYCT. But at the same time part of me wants a different challenge and I've wanted to say I operated a passenger locomotive.

Some things are better at Metro North. But I'm not liking the horrible vacation accumulation and 8 years to top pay. I suspect the sick time accumulation is also worse than at Transit.

And I have too many questions about the pension.

It's hard to say what I would do tbh.

I have three T/O’s from subways in my class. They all say that the environment is better here and management loves to pin everything on you in RTO regardless of your fault. Not sure how the vacation compares nor sick time but I think we’re relatively reasonable. Overall, I think they agreed the pension here is better.

One thing I did hear is subways gives you a year off if you hit someone if you request it. Here, it’s usually 3 days off and then back to work unless you make a good case to EAP.

Not to sound like I am rushing but what is the normal amount of time it takes from finding out that I passed to invitation to an interview? It says on the email of my test results that not everyone who passes the test are guaranteed an interview. Again not to be impatient or sound like I am rushing just worried that they might pass over me for consideration.

They contacted me in like 2-3 days for locomotive engineer.

  9. Six additional Siemens chargers have been tacked onto the Metro-North order for a total of 33. The CDOT will be funding the cost of these.

Still some potential options to be tacked on as well. Up to 14 additional can be added, some for LIRR and some for NYSDOT.

honestly, even our internal MTA ability to use other sections of our agency's network are a complicated mess as to who gets to do what where and when...

though, for the record, I should point out that the Q70SBS to the airport is free for everyone at all times anyway...

There were talks of having just one MTA pass where it just says MTA (no agency or anything) at the top but I'm not sure if that's a rumor and even if true, probably won't be implemented till years later. This was told to us by one of the heads of security. Seeing that our respective passes are tied into timekeeping and such, they probably want to avoid the whole headache lol.

  11. The 27 should get artics but it really can't handle them routing-wise. Even if the route was shifted to CS and they had a extra artics for the 27, they still wouldn't put artics on that route. Think about Holly Ave and 46 Ave, there are some areas where buses cannot even pass side by side and sometimes drivers will double park so if the bus operator needs to manuever around it, the overhang on the backend might sideswipe the vehicle. Going into QCC, it's alright tight going in there with 40 footers coming in and out but with artics, it'll need a bit more space. The 27 is also a very frequent line so you already know the union will be up in arms over the frequencies being slashed.

Does anyone know if they have progressed to allowing connections to NYCT transit passes? It's getting really annoying having to dig out my metrocard when I can just tap in.

I'm sure employees will be one of the last people they care about to transfer over. My Metrocard pass expires Halloween of next year and I expect them to probably issue an OMNY card that might have the capability of linking to an account. I'm sure actual transit employees will see their passes transferred over before they get to railroad employees lol

Hello all! I got invited to the MNR Conductor exam this Thursday at 10am. Is there anybody else invited for that session here? I have read some of the information in this thread about the process but have a few questions. Is the test on a computer or written. Next for the math portion what should I brush off for as I have been brushing off multiplying dividing, adding, etc. But more specifically when the senior fares, child's fare, is all of that information given for the test to solve or is that something we need to know before? For the signals part is that written or multiple choice? Lastly is there a Hogan psych test at the end? But otherwise very excited for this potential opportunity as I have transportation experience.

I believe they've transitioned to online entrance exams for the transportation craft employees. I would suggest brushing up on addition, subtraction and multiplication. They'll give you all the information to do the question within the exam so don't go in there memorizing how much senior, adult, peak vs. off-peak fares are etc. Signals and definitions should be multiple-choice. There should be a Hogan psych test at the end. Study hard!
