  1. Haven't updated on Academy's buses. I think I have tracked down all the unit numbers. I still have not been able to get any exact VINs on these coaches. Assuming the fleet numbers follow the VIN sequences, here's how I have it at the moment.

    21277 - 16348
    21278-21279 - 16350-16351
    21280-21285 - 16353-16358
    21286-21287 - 16360-16361
    21288-21292 - 16363-16367
    21293 - 16369
    21294-21298 - 16371-16375
    21299 - 16377
    21300-21334 - 16379-16413

At least 21282 has been inspected and is sitting in Leonardo.

  2. We have had a pretty stagnant week - no buses inspected out at Piscataway (last inspection was July 😎.

Pembina has buses 21263, 21272, 21273, and units 16354-16355 (which should be for Academy). In Winnipeg there's units 16338 (possibly bus 21268), 16356 and 16361. That leaves only five buses - 21243, 21253, 21264, 21271, and 21277 - known to be at ADD. No confirmation on any of the Academy VINs just yet which are all Winnipeg builds.

It looks like some of their NJT D4500CTs have been given new plates. 17089 and 17119, which I saw on the 33 today, both had AX plates instead of their original AT plates.

The 12 buses that are back in service have plates ranging from AX-339D to AX-350D. They could not be reregistered under their old plates.

AFAIK Academy's 21xxx (21277-21334) are still not yet built. I think it's still possible NJT decides to reassign them to NJT instead to provide buses for Oradell as well as garages that donated D4500CTs to them. We expected 21191-21240 to be assigned to Wayne at first, but turns out 21198 and up went to Coach USA, so I wouldn't rule out such a change again.

Academy is still a private carrier on the long-haul side and will probably still need that final allocation of buses. Plans can always change of course.

  5. Rumors thus far. Nothing has been decided yet. And we all know from our years of tracking this is that expected dates can be pushed back months, even years. All we know is that the infrastructure work is underway at Newton Ave, site of the first deployment.

  6. Let's update Meadowlands and Wayne.

    Meadowlands:
Not yet inspected: 21158 (up for inspection tomorrow)
    In service: 21074-21089, 21091, 21093-21145, 21148-21149, 21151-21154, 21156, 21159-21160, 21162, 21164-21165, 21169, 21171, 21174, 21177, 21179, 21181, 21185-21186
    Inspected: 21090, 21092, 21146-21147, 21150, 21155, 21157, 21161, 21163, 21166-21168, 21170, 21172-21173, 21175-21176, 21178, 21180, 21182-21184, 21187-21190

    Wayne:
Inspected: 21191-21197 (21191 and 21192 reported at Oradell for clearance testing)... not spotted in revenue yet.

Finally the final count of the original 6 year contract comes to a close.

There is a "spinoff" of the options not exercised and now part of a planned 172 RFP release by end of this year.

Now I am eager what the new bus specs will be that calls for a cruiser type bus.  40 foot? 45 foot? What type of propulsion? By time the RFP is published and selection is made, the product lines for NFI/MCI will be producing the next gen D Lines. I also don't see any another bus company that can compete with NFI in terms of meeting NJT road map goals.

The 151 buses for NJT will likely be the last old-type D's for anyone. MCI is going to insist that any new contracts for NJ Transit (or anyone else) be fulfilled with D45 series buses whether they are the low-entry type or full high floor. Perhaps the only other manufacturer that could do that size contract might be Prevost Car. Prevost at least has a proven product.

  8. Thank you. Was just about to post that information here but there you have it. I am assuming also that the 2022 buses will include the remaining 30 lav coaches. None of the 100+ buses just delivered to Meadowlands has the john.

Shocking, though, that they're figuring out FINALLY how to make 45' buses work in Oradell - and when did NJT start getting 45' buses? Oh, that's right, 2002....

I analyzed the contract on the series page on CPTDB Wiki, and NJT will have 710 new buses in its own colors - 115 over the contracted for amount - and 509 private carrier coaches delivered, exactly the contracted total. (Of course that doesn't count the three 2016 demos, or account for the fact that some of those private carrier buses have been rescued by NJT.)
