  1. Switching gears from the excitement of the Second Avenue Subway opening tomorrow, I'm looking forward to the non-revenue testing of the R179 along the A and, most likely, the C line very soon. It's been a long time coming. Wouldn't you guys agree?

Totally agree. Good to see changes on the (A)(C)(J)(Z), but also sad to see the r42's go.

  2. I was unaware that the R62as would last into 2017 on the (7). Any idea on when the two last R62as will be transferred to Westchester? Or is this just the postponing of CBTC?

Don't really know either, probably in March/April 2017. What's with the r142a's on the (6), will one of those still be assigned to the (6) even after CBTC is done?

  3. Hey guys!

I'm new to this forum, but I've been checking the forum for a few years and made an account months back, but never really signed in.

Anyways, I have two questions about SAS that I thought of out of curiosity (maybe someone can offer their two cents):

    1) Does the MTA intend on renovating the rest of Lexington/63rd St, perhaps through 2017?

    2) Is the future 116th St station in Phase II, knowing it wasn't part of the 1970's SAS plan, going to be an island platform station, requiring a more serious alteration to the already built tunnel? I'd say that the MTA should build the station with two side platforms instead, leaving the middle trackway for storage. I think that will be much more simpler and less costly.

    I'm pretty new too. Anyways:

    1) There's currently no known plans to renovate the rest of the station.

    2) I saw a track map some time ago and 116th St still had an island platform like the rest of the stations. However, 125th Street will be a three track station with two island platforms, and the layup tracks north of the curve to 125th will be capable of storing around nine (Q) or (T) trains.

  4. That's not surprising given the overall plan they had in place. The (R) would've been the Broadway express under the Canal flip proposal, which would've in theory, sped up the line as opposed to having the (N) local run up 2nd Avenue. Also remember, back in the '90s, it was assumed the (Q) would remain on 6th Avenue after the Manhattan Bridge work, which is why the proposal illustrated here called for an extension of the  :Q: from its then-present terminal of 21 St-Queensbridge to 179 Street via the then-under construction 63rd Street Connector.

In other news, the schedule for the extended (Q) is now available on the MTA's site.

Is it just me, but didn't they forget to put the ADA-accessible symbol for the three stations on the second avenue (Q)?

    (Q) schedule:

  5. The R68s from the (B) will likely go to the (Q), as additional trains will be needed for Second Avenue service. With the R179 order running so late, the car shortage will be even worse, as the original intent was to have the 179s in for Second Avenue.

I don't foresee any R32s ending up on the (G) as long as there are 300' trains. If needed, they might throw them on when the (L) is shuttered.

Will they put new stickers or roll signs on the R68's for the second avenue (Q) like they did for the (7) extension, or will they still say 57th St?

  6. According to WHO on here? We're going to be getting some 32s on the Bravo pretty soon and I can tell you for sure that they are NOT banned from that line. They just can't run through the Montague tube, but the switch at Lawrence St was just refurbished so that they can turn at Court if need be.

Where will the r68's from the (B) go, and won't there also be some 32s on the (G)?

  7. Dude, they should've at least performed some dust remediation before beginning full revenue testing. That's a fair amount of dust getting kicked up by the trains. That third rail shoe is arcing like crazy from it.

Hopefully some remediation happens after it opens on January 1st.
