There are also towers at Divide (DV) at Hicksville, Nassau at Mineola, Queens, Babylon, and Lead at Long Beach. Harold is controlled by PSCC.
You need to know all the signals & definitions like the engineers & conductors? Then why is it that they test you on half of the amount they test for the others? And give you 3 weeks to study as opposed to 5 weeks for the Engineers & Conductors? Why wouldn’t it be the same tests & study material. Just curious.

oh wow,..a lot less. i thought there had to be a reason they only gave 3 weeks as opposed to the 5 weeks everyone else gets.

Exact same : I memorized the terms now onto signals , I’m in Suffolk . U?
How many signals & definitions do they give you? It has to be less than the conductor & engineer I imagine?

@Cappi10 yeah i know what u mean. 2 extra weeks is a lot and I hope its because of the less materials to study...
Has to be less materials. fingers crossed anyway. the full spectrum is a daunting task in 3 weeks, especially if you work full time.

Training is supposedly a little easier for B/O. You don’t have to qualify for the entire RR. Just specific areas. From what I’m told. But i still don’t get the S&D. 3 weeks as opposed to 5 is a huge difference.

Anyone know why they only give you 3 weeks to study for the S&D as a Block operator as opposed to 5 weeks as an AC?

I think there are more people for AC than BO. There were not even 20 people at the orientation. We took the cognitive exam and after like 3 weeks later, a lady called me in the morning asking a question about my application and then sent me an invitation to S & D email later that afternoon around 3PM. So I guess you have to pass your background/credit check before you get invited to S & D?
AC is a job that’s always hiring. BO is a little harder to get into. Less positions avail. That’s why it’s smaller.

U just got invited to the orientation on Jan 25? I guess they are looking for more people. I have S & D overview on 31st. If you get invited to the overview, does that mean you passed the background/credit check?
Yes just got the email Friday so possibly trying to fill a class. I’ve been through the AC process but not the BO process. Not sure. You’ll find out everything on 1/31. I’m just not sure why they only give u 3 weeks for the S&D? It’s a lot for 3 weeks

I just got invited to the open house on Jan 25 and if i make it passed that, the overview on Jan 31. I noticed they only give you 3 weeks to study for the S&D whereas the conductors & engineers get 5 weeks. why is that?

Here it is,..they just pulled my paperwork.
The Vocabulary portion of the test - the very 1st part. Multiple choice. Instead of writing the letter of the answer, i wrote the correct answer. which they still passed me for on the spot. I moved on to each round. and interview, stating i passed. now someone pulling me out of the pile saying i didnt follow directions. Unbelievable.

Well, after emailing Linda Oliver I get a response that says my paperwork is in the "papeework doesn't match" pile. Apparently my resume and application had a 1 month difference that i didn't notice. She tells me to correct the paperwork but they have it. Should I print a new one and mail it in. She didn't answer my last question about this. Just my f'ing luck, could've already been in the groove for S&D.
I feel your pain bro. But at least your're not out. I have been going back and forth with Linda myself and they are supposedly pulling my paperwork but this is going on for weeks now. I have a call in to a T.M. hopefully to get to the bottom of it. Maybe they'll fix it & we'll get called in together??!! Fingers crossed for you buddy!!

Definitions they are very wordy. The indicatons on the signals are all kind of the same
I thought so too - wasn't sure on other people's take. I have all the definitions down. I never started the signals because my rejection letter came.

I have a few definitions left signals I'm reviewing
Nice job - did you find the signals or the definitions harder?

I haven't heard anything about a may S&D overview. I just know our test is 2 weeks from today
Well good luck buddy,..are you through all the signals & def's yet? or still have some to go? Hopefully your on the review portion by now.

My friend on RR has 3 buddies who are all "cams" that got pulled for May's S&D overview date. He let me know cuz he knows I'm waiting. But I haven't seen any one here say they got an invite nor did I. Still no letter for me either. Job was just opened and closed recently. Sooo, I figure, who the hell even knows what is gonna happen next. I applied for other stuff that was there but i guess I'll just move on with my life and not worry about this. I guess they aren't getting the right mix of candidates if they constantly reopening the position.
If you didnt get a rejection letter you are still alive. i am seeing other people get them as well. I think you are still in the running, hang in there.

Hey guys , I'm sorry to read that you wasn't able to continue your career path in the RR. But I like to give you a little advice. Try and get in as Sam, Cam or Oiler first. An entry job. Once your in , you get a better idea of what every craft in the RR duties are and you might find something you would like to do other than going for a job somewhat blindly because it's on the board. Also I know it's discouraging because it happened to me and other internal employees and external employees like yourself. But don't give up ,perseverance pays off. But like I said before, that entry job is the way most RR employees came up . Cleaning trains and stations . Even the top dog of our whole union did that. So keep trying and good luck.
Thanks a lot for the encouragement. I have actually been applying for all the entry jobs as well. I'm happy to clean trains, ticket clerk, whatever it is, I'm happy to do my time. I will keep trying. I'm just confused as to why I wasn't picked if I made it through phase 1 passing everything. I have a solid resume, at my job 23 years with tons of customer service and cash handling experience. I thought I was made for the conductor job. But I will keep moving forward and hope I get a foot in the door at some point.
