Somebody involved in the union told me close to 500 train operators are retiring this year, anyone else hear this?

I been hearing about this mass retirement since I got here but with these cushy senior man jobs these old f**kers just won't leave 😂

Nah but in all seriousness I have heard the same thing but idk if it's all in 1 year. I heard over the course of the next 5 years as people hit their retirement age along with service time there should be a ton of movement in all titles. Here's hoping 🤞

I have a question.. If you are XX and you bid on a job.. and a week or a month later, the person returns. Do you fall back to the bottom of XX? Meaning that within XX if a new employee is recently out of school car and you have more seniority but because you bid on a job and the person returns.. that new employee will have more seniority within XX (Since I heard there's also seniority within XX).

For example I have Sunday/Monday off. If I filled out a preference sheet with PMs and also bid on a job and win. And the person ends up returning, will the crew office honor the preference sheet I filled out before, or do I have to fill out another preference sheet, or will the crew office throw me in which ever “Tour” and “RDO” they feel like giving?

As per the new contract, if it gets ratified, u no longer fall to the bottom of xx. U now fall to the the XL list. Difference being they won't be able to change your tour and RDO for the rest of the pick and u will be assigned to a district and kept within it. That's what's on paper at least but let's see if the crew office actually honors it. Sounds like u will keep the tour, rdo and district of the job u bid on and won.

    Wait someone actually did that?

I haven't read a report but by rtoman saying this person may face charges coupled with something I heard about multiple crews being taken out of service after a body was found on the tracks, yes thats what it sounds like. It isn't the first time it's happened that I've heard. Probably won't be the last either.

To the ones coming in...it's a serious job. Treat it as such.

    rookies......dont worry
i book off sick quite often.  i'm still here.  no one disciplined me.
    it was def scare tactics.
just don't book off every week even though it's tempting.......
you get caught sleeping?? again depends where/when....depends who u get caught by too.  i just get laughed at by TSS catching me cuz i am not a dick and i don't argue
one thing is for sure....... WATCH OUT FOR THE 1!!!!!
if u work the 1.....u GON SEE

I'm coming back to the 1 next pick even though I've heard of this particular Train Service Superhero.

They are probably just trying to scare them like they did to us when we did orientation. I remember they said if you even close your eyes and look like you're sleeping, even off the clock, you can get fired....the first day of actual school car we went to CCY and I went to the crew room and everybody was sleeping with blankets and pillows lmao

    🤣🤣🤣

Not to subtle I’m sure there’s some good guys in the bunch but a lot of new people shock me

Yea this. Some of the incidents I've heard about are wild. Mistakes are 1 thing and those happen to everybody. What I'm hearing about are wrong decision after wrong decision compounded by weak attempts at coverups. Lots of the new folks are doing fine but lately the incidents seem to be very mind boggling.

the modus operandi in Transit is.....when someone is fired they tell them they can rehire them or add them to the list......it's a lie.  they do it just so no one retaliates or do anything violent during the firing stage.  also.....it really does depend why were you fired.  was it hitting 5 home signals within 1 run?  or was it due to missing out school car days due to a medical?
either way - you have been freed from Transit - this a blessing.  look for something you really love doing and respects *** ALGORITHM DETECTS MEDIOCRE COMMENT THAT WILL LEAD TO POTENTIAL NEGATIVE COMMENT; AUTOMATIC REMOVAL ***

Not always a lie. I'm living proof.

you got terminated or u resigned on your own volition?  if it's the former.....unfortunately that's the end of the road and will be new beginnings for you.  you won.
if it's the latter... they most likely will not respond to you just like how to RCC won't respond to you on the radio.
Rudeness is actually in the rules and regulations book for management and admin....it's Rule # 69 section X or something....

I think you need to start writing a standup routine and try to get yourself out of transit like that 😄

what does it mean when you are on an outstanding certification? I never got anything yet from MTA I'm in the 67xx.

Just means your name was on a certified list but they haven't gotten to it yet. Just weird civil service stuff. Whenever they want to hire they need to have a certified list of candidates. That certification has an expiration date and they recertify as needed.

See you took what I said and twisted to how your feelings are I have actually held reps  accountable voiced my opinion reached out when I seen things unsafe and not did anything for these people to put myself in a bad position..I was at that mass membership  meeting that Saturday and you’d be surprised that there’s folks who feel the way I feel The union is as strong as it’s members .You don’t care then fine you have your feelings I’m not trying to change them.  Listen I’m not going to go back and forth with you brother we aren’t enemies these people we work for are just remember this conversation down the line when TA starts with the real nonsense… It’s coming..

The nonsense is coming regardless of whatever we do because the whole country has been union busting for decades and the ones that remain most of them get declawed. I'm just saying stop putting it on the new folks saying we need to do more when we barely got time to balance work, family, and health. Now ya want us to go out and hand out flyers on our RDOs like that's gonna stop transit from doing whatever they want. No we not enemies but we inherited this local 100 we didn't make it and we certainly don't have the time to fix it.

  12. 16 minutes ago, RTOMan said:

So you ok with just making assumptions that the union isn’t doing anything? Involved means asking questions holding reps accountable document anything unsafe to the union know your job the rules all of these things help, and if you feel that’s not enough throw that hat in the ring… Vote candidates in who can help…  This is my last contract I’m gone in three years 10 months.. You folks are the future of this union. If you want to sit back and let TA do their nonsense then I don’t know what to tell you these people aren’t looking out for us and they would love to break this union.. Trust the process give it time..

I didn't say anything about assumptions I'm honestly asking how specifically can any of us do anything that makes any difference? Ya want to lay the blame on the new folks working xx or shit schedules for not getting involved as if anybody has any time. We vote them in to represent our interest and when people can't get any answers then that's when assumptions and misinformation take root. I been here 4 years through 2 admins and have needed both their help and both times I got nada so sorry if I have little faith in any of them. This union got beat down to it's knees before our time so maybe it's u guys heading out the door that are responsible for not holding these reps accountable.

I never paid attention to the whiners and believe me it’s better now than it was when I started… Some of these folks have a lot of things handed to them.. They better start getting involved in the union  and stop crying online that’s all I’m gonna say…

When u say get involved with the union what exactly should people do? Going to meetings and drinking the Kool aid is just a waste of time. People say get involved but that's very vague.

Why would they request a new list if there are still people that are waiting to be processed for medical. And what is the reason for no classes being scheduled. This whole thing is so confusing to me.

When they request a certified list, they come with expiration dates. After those dates they have to keep asking to recertify lists. Idk why exactly but that's the way it works for all NYC civil service exams. If u are only up to the drug test part, u will be on the newest certified list so no worries, just a part of the process.

Don't worry about that "Work program" it violates the Pick process..

Got to have ONE daily Job(RDO Relief is a daily job) a Saturday Job and a Sunday Job (Depending on your days off).

So its thrown in the trash....

So some of yall can back away from the Cliff...

Ok back to your regularly Scheduled programming...

What's to stop the powers that be from letting the pick go forward with a regular work program and then releasing a supplement as they did during COVID? Not being contentious just don't think the fight is over that quick.

  16. 7 minutes ago, RTOMan said:

Here's a reply to another poster so I'm going to copy it...

Actually yall got it WAY much better...

Computers to help with Job assignments, schedule cards Work programs available you can see two days in advance what you are doing instead of dealing with folks in the crew office.

Crew Office convos are recorded (did ya know that?).

Managers who will listen to Obvious EEO violations and G2s that will get addressed and a Union who will help with contract violations which are blatant.

So that being said lots of us WISH we had what is down here now.

Oh its not going to get better i see the Big Picture for this place and its not pretty they looking to cut this workforce...

You think they spending all this money for new Tech to Help Us?

    Think promotion take my advice...

I'm sure they don't have helping us in their list of priorities but that's supposed to be why we have a union. Like i said a system to improve the crew office would make it better for transit too but i been here long enough to know transit likes to shoot itself in the foot and also to know our union is weak, so u aren't wrong that this is probably as good as it will get. Still, just trying to change the narrative around the new people just being lazy and entitled. They are just able to see the flaws quick and are part of the generation that doesn't just stay quiet and grateful for "it could be worse".

I was XX for five years believe me when i say it the longer you are XX they tend to give you better jobs...

This Job all we mostly got left from these people is seniority and they are slowing taking that away in every department...

Wait another five years when most of us Tier four  folks are gone yall haven't seen anything yet TA got tricks...

We all get that it was worse, but that doesn't mean it can't get better. People will always want better when possible. It doesn't mean they are entitled, it just means they know their value. People back in the day were just grateful to have a job but now that there is more understanding of the psychological aspect of a work life balance, that's what people will strive for. It doesn't mean people don't want to work at all or have weekends off or just get 1 trippers close to home all the time. They just want to not have ridiculous report times that don't take travel into consideration. I get that in your day it was just as bad and worse, but it can be forgiven because of the lack of technology in that time. How was the crew office supposed to keep track of everyone using pen and paper and old computers? But with the advancement of computers this can be done so much better. I saw on Facebook someone suggest a point system that shows matches for jobs based on location and previous days clearing time. It can be done transparently and in a way that leaves no question that all things were considered and that would drastically improve morale and attendance and everyone, including transit, would benefit. Instead the "it's how it is and always was man up u snowflake" mentality rules and transit continues to have attendance issues and a hard time keeping quality employees.

Only if one is expecting to deal with some sacrifice because there will be some indeed if not and one is "expecting" to be treated like others who got it better(because that's the bottom line here  some folks can sugar coat it all they want) then don't bother...

Like I'm seeing a lot lately...

You'd think some folks never worked in their lives...

There's this false narrative down here that new people are expecting to be treated like people with seniority. That's absolutely false. Nobody with an understanding of how seniority works is expecting weekends off and their pick of whatever assignments they want.

The major issue is how the crew office jerk people around. I was lucky when i was xx and stayed close to home 99% of the time since i first came out. Even when my tour wasn't what i desired at least i wasn't reporting to Brooklyn every other day. People with file numbers higher than mine that were also xx were being absolutely killed with ridiculous reporting locations and times. One of my classmates refused to speak up cause she didn't want to be one to complain but they kept that poor lady on the completely opposite side of where she lived when the line that ran literally outside her house always had open jobs.

It doesn't ever get addressed because people start picking jobs and forget how it was for them and stop caring. Some people like to float their file number so much that they are happy to see rookies suffer cause it makes their seniority that much more meaningful to them in a weird way.

I dont think it's unreasonable for people to expect to be treated better. Better doesn't mean treated like a senior man, just means treated decently.

so you can get fired for having high blood pressure or diabetes?
If that's the case.....so much for job security!!!!!!!!

Oh btw......we do get paid for visiting the MAC right???

I don't know the details of it but i imagine if it's taken care of and maintained properly u won't get fired for it, hence the every 6 month visits to make sure u are ok.

  20. 2 minutes ago, trackerjack said:

yea.....different generation u know?  more of a sacrifice.
a few of us have had cushy office jobs making the same pay.  so it's always about perspective.  if you came from a cushy job.....transit is horrible.  if you worked hard in a rough job previously then transit is a cakewalk.  grass is/was always greener on the proverbial side.
And yes there are folks who left the rotten hole for better careers, i know 3 already personally in my induction.
point is.....one must becareful for what they wish for!!!
and yes i'm still in the hole cuz i'm not good enough to get a better job.  i'm just not smarter nor handsome enough.  also my gut definately hinders me from being a cutie pie during interviews!!
my gut be plastering folks on the platform like MOOOOOVE!!!!

Listen if i made even close to the same in my previous job which was in an office setting, i wouldn't be here. I took a court assistant exam a while back and they have been sending me a lot of letters asking if I'm still interested for different courts. I imagine it's 9 to 5 or something close and no weekend work, but I'd lose something like 40k a year in salary. Comfort is nice but when u have a family and want to see them living a nice life, it's nothing to sacrifice your own for them. I know it's not always easy when u are xx, but it really does get better. In contrast, at my previous office there were older folks with 30 years in still being treated like trash. So while it was nice n comfy, your seniority means nothing in office settings or corporate America and here your seniority means a whole bunch.
