  1. You guys do know that burn-in is the only thing 3010-3019 needs to do in order to enter (A) service right? And now that's doing the latter, it's gonna be in regular (A) service very soon!

After many, many months of testing, 3010-3019 is only one step away from entering service!

Hey is the holiday train going to be out tomorrow and if so, would it pass by 23rd Street since it's reopening Tomorrow. I'm thinking of checking it out when I have the Chance.

It only runs every Sunday until December 30. It won't pass by 23 St since it's using the express tracks this year.

You can go next week if you want to.

Saw this one last night — sure there are others by now...

I saw it too. This is the rarest thing I've personally caught so far, as the last time it happened was in 2012.

It's kinda similar to the extra R160s running on the (A) and (D) in 2017 for the Women's March.

Also what do you mean by "there are others?"

How many sets do we have now?

We have like 12-14 8 car trains by now with the inclusion of 3010-3019. How many sets is that in total?

    So far:

    3010-3019 (10 cars)

    3050-3069 (20 cars, (J))

    3074-3149 (76 cars, (J))

    3150-3157 (eight cars, (C))

    3158-3173 (16 cars, testing)

    3174-3177 (four cars, being delivered)

We have over 12 8-car trains in service on the (J), one 8-car in service on the (C), and 2.5 more 8-car trains. This makes over 15.5 trains arranged in four-car sets, with 13 in service so far. Add 3010-3019 and you'll get 16.5 trains altogether, or 134 cars.

Wow, what a week so far. First the (C) line gets a brand new train and MJQ finally gets new 40FT buses fresh from the factory. In recent years whenever Quill got a brand new 40FT bus they usually ran only on the M42/50, now ALL of the 40FT routes at Quill will get new factory fresh equipment😄

Well, the Xcelsiors will become an everyday thing eventually on the Quill routes. That's why I don't really keep an eye on them.

I care more about retiring fleets like the RTS and D60HFs because they'll be history soon and they're also very nostalgic.

Are the three remaining 96 RTS at LGA retired? Their not listed anymore on the Google bus roster and I didn't see none of the three buses in the lots at LGA depot today..

Incorrect. They are still on the roster (which was just updated today btw).

Thanks for the clarification.  I  wasn't aware of that. The only reason  I thought it was a good idea to assign one car fleet per each A train branch is to eliminate confusion on A train riders. It's frustrating to get on the A and not know where the A is going, especially if the train announcement is not clear or the yellow screens are not functioning.

There needs to be a way of solving this problem!!!!!!

Riders don't care about what kind rolling stock is on their line. Plus the conductor can make manual announcements if the LCDs aren't working.

Besides, the effects of "unclear announcements" or "broken LCDs" are very negligible given that we already have countdown clocks that tells us which is going where.

  8. The consolidation pattern with the X13/X14 worked out fine. There was nothing wrong with the X14 because it wasn't like the other Midtown-via-Downtown routes as it just made a few stops along Water before continuing up the FDR Drive to Midtown.

It's an outright cut to have the SIM35 (aka X13) be reinstated and the X14 be cut because the former only serves Downtown, and there are barely any transfer points in the vicinity of Water St to the subway since most of the subway lines are concentrated near the center. The SIM3/c (aka the X10/X42) and SIM30 (aka the X30) can't be the only Midtown routes serving the North Shore. Same goes with the SIM6 (X5) and SIM10 (X2) being the only Midtown routes along Hylan Blvd...

  9. I agree that the (J) and (W) can easily be extended to Brooklyn to make up for the loss of the (D) and (Q) in Manhattan, and the (R)'s unreliable frequency.

While the (J) still uses R32s and R42s, there are so few of them running at this point (since they're mostly on the (A)). It won't be too hard to just have R160s and R179s on the (J) for that weekend. And while it did carry air back then, it was only because the (2)(3) were more direct/frequent. Running the (J) down West End to replace the (D) for weekend G.Os would make it carry a lot more.

Same thing goes with the (W)

  10. Just a heads up for those that don't know, there's a permanent R68A (Q) that runs during rush hours.

With the (E)(F) using Coney Island sets and R68As popping up on the (Q) seems to point that some sort of swapping has already begun. The R68As weren't really used on the (Q) between the opening of SAS and now, but now it's happening more and more.

And Youtube is not a reliable source. Some rumors can be completely wrong/inaccurate, while others can be misheard. For example, one person who I will not name said that R68As will never run on the (Q) again. And guess what, the person was completely wrong, and it happened! Don't trust anyone in regards to car assignments if they don't have any well-supported info.

    Continuing work service, presumably?

No, it's for the (6) as a new five-car set.

The only ones for work service now are 1906-1908 and 1910.

I feel the assignment for the ex-Corona singles should be like this:

    For example:

    1901-1905, 1911-1915, 1916-1920, 1921-1925, 1926-1927-1931-1934-1938, 1940-1942-1943-1944-1947, 1954-1957-1958-1959-1960, 1961-1965: All on the (6) (40 cars)

    1928-1930, 1932-1933, 1935-1937, 1939, 1941, 1945-1946, 1948-1950, 1951-1953, 1955-1956: All on the (S) 42 St Shuttle  (20 cars)

    1906, 1907, 1908, 1910: Work Service (four cars)
