Because the M35 is somehow useless.

Of course, the fact that such a short route even has the ridership to justify articulated buses is completely overlooked with that "analysis"...

The M35 is totally not useless.

A lot of tenants on Randall's Island use that route to get to Manhattan, and during the AM rush, it's packed. This should justify why it has to use artics.

Plus, during sporting events at Icahn Stadium, or at any other venue at the island, the M35 is also packed to the point where supplementary special-event service (the X80) has to help with the crowds.

  2. You know, the only thing the MTA was correct about the RTS was ENY losing it's remaining RTS by the end of the month.

However, there's a catch. They only retired about 3-6 RTS out of Flatbush instead of a dozen like they promised by the end of March (which is today). So they lied on that note. In fact, there were several RTS out on the B41, B44, and B46 this weekend, which should signify that they have a lot more life in them.

  3. I'm surprised at this news. Seems like the MTA is quick enough to junk retiring fleets all at once regardless of shortage.

But no one said in the scrap thread that the last seven RTS there all got sent to ECH for scrap. In fact, I only saw a few hybrid and XD40 moves to ENY yesterday and today, but IDK if it's enough to replace them.

  4. Nice proposals. I haven't done something like this in a while.

A few suggestions for your Queens Bus Redesign @LaGuardia Link N Tra:

-Have a few Q25 short-turns near the Q34's north terminal to make up for its loss/discontinuation. Other than that, I agree the Q34 is redundant given that 98% of it is shared with the Q25.

-Have a few Q22 trips serve the tip end of the Rockaways, Breezy Point. While very low density, it currently has no direct access to subway or bus transportation. I would run peak Q22 service there on 15-20 minute headways, while every other Q22 terminates at Beach 169 St.

-Don't eliminate the Q102. I would instead have it restructured/retain its routings in Roosevelt Island, and I would truncate it to Queensboro Plaza (as its northern terminal).

-Have all Q36 trips terminate in Floral Park instead of deviating to Little Neck. Bring back the Q79 (which was discontinued in 2010 due to cuts) to cover its portion between the latter and Floral Park. It would make the Q36 more shorter and frequent, instead of having two, north, spread out terminals.

-I see you propose consolidating the Q32/Q33 into one route. However, if this is viable (depending on ridership), one alternative I'd suggest is actually CUTTING the Q33 entirely, and having increased service on the Q47 and Q49 to replace it. I feel it's a little redundant because it was cut back from LGA and the aforementioned routes already have good coverage in East Elmhurst. Q32 service would obviously remain unaltered.

-I wouldn't extend the Q39 to Roosevelt Island to replace the Q102, due to it being sort of a long route between LIC and Middle Village.

-I would consolidate the Q11/Q21 into one route given that they're very similar to each other. However, if one of them should be eliminated, I would do the opposite and eliminate the Q11 instead of the Q21. Why? Because the Old Howard Beach/Hamilton Beach portion of the Q11 has much lower density than Howard Beach, served by the Q21/Q41. I would eliminate the Q11, and have an extended Q112 replace it in its aforementioned section.

-I would send the Q100 instead of the Q101 to serve Hunters Point because the former is a more faster, limited-stop route, while the latter is local and a bit infrequent. I agree with cutting the Q101 from Manhattan, but I would have it terminate at Queensboro Plaza.

-I would also create a new route (the Q51), running from Rockaway Blvd on the (A) to Linden Blvd/235 St where the Q4/X64 terminate. This route would run via Liberty Av, Lefferts Blvd, and finally Linden. This is because the western part of Linden doesn't really have any local bus coverage (only express with the QM21/X63).

-I like the Q88Z plan, but something like this should be studied for other long, high-ridership routes in Queens (like the Q27, Q60, etc.)

Finally, one thing you haven't covered in your redesign is Queens express routes, or the QMs. There are several issues with them, like infrequency, and trips often not showing up. But other than that, these are my suggestions for the QMs.

-Eliminate the QM10 and QM40. Those routes get low ridership and the QM11 can replace it. While the QM11 is a Downtown-only route, the (E)(F) are more faster than the formers to the city and commuters could instead take the QM11 or the (E)(F)

-If ridership along the Union Turnpike corridor warrants this, I would create a Downtown supplement to the QM6 (the QM9). The QM1/31 and QM5/35 already have this (the QM7 and the QM8 respectively).

-Discontinue the QM21 and replace with increased X63 service. It's mainly redundant when the X63 is very close by and BP Depot barely has any express buses to work with.

KB was the first depot to operate D60HF, and it way its looking, they will be the last depot to operate the D60HF.

    That's pretty cool.

It would be really cool if it's last run was on the Bx1. That would really bring things full circle from the first run with 1001 in 1996.

It's sad how the last remaining D60HFs from Gun Hill, West Farms, and Tuskegee Airmen were all sent to scrap just this week. What's really crazy is that they all got scrapped only a day after their last run.

I really hope that today won't be the last for the D60HFs. In fact, they're my third-favorite bus, only being beaten by the Orion Vs and RTS in my opinion. If the D60s are still around by next week, I'm definitely gonna get one last ride on it as a somber farewell to arguably one of the best articulated buses in the city... :(

To follow up, the GH D60s were 5709, 5713, 5723, 5733, 5742-5743. Furthermore, all 3 of WF's remaining D60s are scrapped (5631, 5677, 5738), and OH scrapped 5608, leaving 5642 as their last d60 (I may have left out a few buses here, especially for OH, since i don't report every change i see).

You are correct about GH, but WF still has more D60s than the ones listed above.

From this, it still has 5676, 5683, 5712, and 5764 so there should still be four remaining there unless those bit the dust.

As for OH, there's still 5714 in addition to 5642. There's also 111 unless that got scrapped too.

4902, 5034, 5154 scrapped from JA. 29 RTS are left there

6486 scrapped from QV. 57 Gen I Orions are left there (It's possible I missed a scrapped bus, but I'm not about to triple check)

    110, 5618 scrapped from OH. 3 2002 D60s left, 4 D60s (Of 2002-2003 model year) left at OH

138 scrapped from WF. 10 D60s left at WF, all of which are not renumbered

Damn I saw 138 in service on the Bx19 just a day ago. That was so fast.

I presume 6486 got scrapped due to 8511's recent arrival...

im sorry i forgot to state another question which was: Has it been confirmed what will replace the Orion vii OG's?

    Yes.

The new 2018-2019 Nova LFS that have recently been coming in as of late will retire the oldest batch of hybrids, the 2002-2004 Orion VII OGs.

Later this year and into 2020, the 2004-2005 Orion VII OGs will be replaced by the new XDE40s.

  9. It's actually inevitable that the first production five-car sets will begin arriving soon. The four-car sets are close to wrapping up with delivery (only 3070-3, 3226-37 remain for deliveries), and since 3010-3019 passed the test, they can begin delivering five-cars.

Keep in mind though that there are now 14 ten car trains instead of 12 like before...

With the rate that RTS's are leaving ENY it seems like the last depot to operate RTS will come down to FLA, UP or JA. Please let it be FLA or UP haha.

As for the D60HF, the WF units are the easiest to find for me, I seen one on the BX15 this past Saturday, was gonna ride it but it had snow chains so I passed. Hate riding buses with snow chains.

Yeah it's a shame that the RTS are leaving ENY pretty fast. First JFK, then LGA, then Grand bit the dust for their RTS. Now ENY may be the next depot to lose all its RTS. Flatbush and Ulmer may be the last since they haven't lost any RTS whatsoever in a long time and the XD40s aren't being diverted to those two depots.

The RTS are basically my favorite buses; nothing will ever come close to beating them in my opinion.

The D60HFs I also like, but they have also been dropping fast as of late. I like the green-signed ones better because they're more nostalgic than the orange ones. I've fanned them a lot as of late, and I've caught them on plenty of routes.

  11. Looks like we're getting close to the end of an era at WF. The Orion VII CNGs have been leaving fast as of late, and only SEVEN of them are left (145, 7792, 7815-7819). That's about the same amount of D60s at GH, which is also severely low.

It seems as if the O7 CNGs will finally meet their end by the end of this month given that the tanks are beyond expiring and in poor condition. I will miss these buses, so catch them while we can!

  12. 3222-3225 is the next R179 to be delivered.

3224 and 3225 are waiting to cross the GWB as of right now.

We're almost done with four-car set deliveries. We just need 3070-3, 3226-9, 3230-3, 3234-7 (or four sets), before delivery of the five-cars can commence.

Are there any leftover R160s still running on the (C) or have they been transferred back to the east?

No. All of the (C)'s R160s got transferred back to ENY. The last sets of R160s went back to the (J) recently a few weeks ago.

To quote from the R32 Fleet Swap Thread:

The last 12 R-160A-1's were moved 207 to East New York at end of service Wednesday evening, February 6.  Two moves:  8645-48 with 9967-70, then 8625-28 by itself.  No more R-160A-1 on (C).

  14. Good. So far we have:

    3050-3069 (in service)

    3074-3197 (in service)

    3206-3217 (testing)

    3218-3221 (being delivered)

This means that we only have 3070-73, 3222-25, 3226-29, 3230-33, and 3234-37 left to be delivered before delivery of the five-car sets potentially gets underway.

  15. As for car assignments, I'm still on the fence over them until there's actual solid proof they're changing up.  I don't expect even close-to-accurate info to be final, because nothing is really confirmed at this point, especially considering Cuomo's cancellation of the hard work and planning of the (L) shutdown (which was already said to be definite a few months prior).
