You don’t know that, in fact no one knows that for certain. If the issues aren’t resolved then the cars may be indefinitely removed from service.
There's already aboubt 300 r179s in the yards, removing them froms service indefinitely is not an option for the MTA.

Spending $250 million dollars to save $200 million is questionable for sure when you are cutting service. I don’t see why they can’t address the fare beating problem with a lower price tag...
I've been saying this on this godforsaken forum for YEARSSSSSSSSS. More police are almost never the solution to anything, not only is it costly but it is demonstrably ineffective. Not to mention all of the police on civilian violence that's been occuring in the recent months.
Either way, The best way to combat farebeating isn't to ask the question "how do we stop farebeating," whe should be asking "why are people farebeating" and go from there.

It's pretty wild how a small group of people can strong-arm the entire population city into getting what they want.

There may be another problem with the R179s. Image of the R179 shell getting scrapped at Moore Recycling

This very well could just be a shell that didn't pass QC

Looks like eastern queens ridership is dropping.
From what I gather, overall ridership is still dropping. However, the stations with increases tend to be tied to stations that were (partially)closed the prior year or are in areas with new developments (LIC, Downtown & 4th Ave Brooklyn, etc).
I wonder how many of those riders are switching to either express bus or LIRR service.

Looks like trains are running as scheduled despite the MTA website.

Suffolk Transit actually already has a fairly robust farebox that can take many different payment methods, as well as an actually effective app that you can buy every ticket type on.
I know, it's a shame that the service is essentially random though.

This is insanity. It will take longer than the Q70. If Prince Andr*w really was interested in speeding up the trip to LGA he would make improvements to the existing transit options.

There are service changes and delays in , , , and train service because of a train with mechanical problems at Eastern Pkwy.
The last stop for some southbound trains will be South Ferry.
The last stop for some southbound trains will be Bowling Green.
There is limited and train service between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and Franklin Av.
Northbound , , , and trains are running express from Franklin Av to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
Please see a station booth agent to obtain a courtesy pass for continued travel.
The IRT has been a total disaster today, there were signal problems at 59th street earlier also, I wonder what the occasion was.

Unless you split the and bring back to replace the QBL segment, but where to terminate ?
You could also bring the back to FH71 to fill the gap left by cutting the . It would work because many QBL rider just hop on the express or when they get the chance, or they could get the if they're headed downtown, or they could get the via the .

1. IMO, they should get rid of the SBS articulated buses and the pay-before-you-board (honor system?) concept. Let's go back to more drivers driving more buses. It worked well enough on the Q44 for many years. We don't need constant fussing with road and sidewalk construction to implement the SBS system. Is it really a wise idea to narrow roads near a hospital in the name of increasing bus speed (I'm thinking the SBS lanes near NYPQ at Main St and Booth Memorial Ave in Flushing)? Also, this isn't Europe. Let's keep things simple with a farebox in the front, next to the driver.
Tap to pay will eliminate this problem in a handful of years, and even on local buses there are people who just board on the back anyway and don't pay. I ride the B12 all the time and I often see people simply walking by the driver or just getting on in the back. Granted that's just my experience on one line.
Having more cops in stations is just senseless security theater. Sure it may be a good optics thing and draw people back to the subway, and if it does do that good, but it is important to realize that this is just for show. I doubt farebeating will go down as past data has shown that police are ineffective at combating it.

As for the tube, it has long been NYCT policy to limit trains to 35mph (in most cases) under rivers.
Really? I go under the river every day and the lines seems to be fastest in the tubes. 60th street, York Street, SB Joralemon, and Canarsie are quite fast. I'm not sure about the others.

This looks pretty good, it's a shame that the stops on Grand didn't get consolidated but it's NBD. Are there going to be bus lanes up Allen st because that street can get pretty packed.

Timers. Franklin-Atlantic nb is graced by, in order, one shot GT25s (or are they 35s — I can’t remember), 2 shot GT35s, and a one shot GT20, all of which (but especially the 1 shots) absolutely slaughter speed over that stretch, whereas southbound is untimed. In Joralemon, both directions have 2 shot GT35s, but the timed section of the tunnel is significantly longer NB than SB.
Yeah I understand that there are timers in place NB by why are they there. Particularly in the tunnel.

Why is NB Franklin avenue to Atlantic Avenue and the Joralemon tunnel on the so much slower that SB?

Has anyone looked into whether or not the HEETs are effective at combating farebeating? Often times I see people who are trying to exit just go for the emergency door to avoid dealing with them which leads to a flow of people bypassing fare control via the door.

I wouldn't see this being used at stop with high traffic levels, but I could see it at stops that are difficult to add elevators to and/or have low ridership (ex. Courtleyou/Beverly Rd stations and the Rockaways).
Yeah exactly. It's a easy cheap way to make the subway more accessible and meeting ADA standards. Of course that wouldn't work in busy stations but it's a good solution at less used stations. These things don't need to be efficient, they just need to be there as an option.

I mean, the statement isn't entirely without merit. Just look at how Nevins Street was built.
Elevators aren't the only way to make a station ADA accessible
