  1. You know in the Draft Bronx Bus Redesign Plan, the MTA wants to eliminate all the buses that travel through Co-op City either fully or partially and force everyone to take the Bx23 as the only bus service for the residents there. Anyone who wants to actually get out of Co-op city will have to transfer at Asch Loop or Dreiser Loop to transfer to another bus and making Co-op city a two fare zone. Yes while the increase of frequency from 30 minutes to 8 minutes (3 during rush hours) is an improvement, the MTA does not need to eliminate everything else. Also, with the expansion of Bay Plaza, traffic has gotten even worse than before. On top of that, should there be ANY traffic on I-95, you're guaranteed to that frequency to drop from 3 or 8 to 20 to 30 minutes with 5 to 6 Bx23s bunching up at Pelham Bay Park station. This idea from the MTA is possibly the worst idea from them in a series of terrible ideas coming from their route redesigns.
  2. The local communty board and community organizationns advocated for the returns of the Bx46. It was more for the MTA to bring back the Barretto Point Park shuttle. Also, there is a large event venue several blocks east of the Park. They implimented the Bx46 but only 2 buses per hour is too infrequent for frequent use. You would be surprised how many people would not know a new route exist even if they live there.
  3. The Bx46 was advocated by the local community to provide another way to get to the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center and Barreto Point Park/Floating Pool without having to walk a great distance from the Bx6 (to Barreto Point Park and the Floating Pool) and connects workers to the 2 & 5 trains directly as the Bx6 bus does not necessarily do that. It used to be the Barreto Point Park shuttle before the MTA shut it down in 2010. The biggest problem with the Bx46 is that not many people in the area that work within the Peninsula know it exists and if they do it is so infrequent they don't bother. What I would do is convert the Bx19 to SBS, then have a local variant (Bx46) go from Riverbank park to the Food Distribution Center via 145th St/149th St, go up Prospect to the 2/5 train station then head down Longwood to Hunts Point along it's regular route. I am still annoyed the Bx6 got SBS service instead of the Bx19 because that good lord that route is slower than molasses.
