Any advice ? I have a trip partially paid for out the country for my sons birthday in December. I went for my 1st P/E In June 2nd P/E in July. My list # is 47**. I see that they’re emailing/calling 4200s for medical. Should I just focus on taking the trip ? Or should I work on trying to book another date sometime next December ? I don’t want a medical email school car etc to interfere and I lose out on my money. I was thinking I can take the trip but again I’m hesitant because I might receive a medical email near that time. HELPPP LOL

that depends how long the trip is. if it's just 4 days ( and especially if it's on your weekend) it should be ok, they let you go but you'll have to make it up at the end of school car. If it's longer than that might be tough. I don't think you'll be able to do it in schoolcar.

So I had someone from the employment office tell me even after being reinstated to the list I won’t get called again until next year because I’m not on the current DCAS list they received. I’m trying Ms Olha and emailing DCAS back to see if this was accurate cuz that would suck if it is true.

wth so now you have no job until next year?

I think some people just don't understand how the bids work, some of the jobs available may not actually work well for them, and some people have relatively lucky with the crew office. And yes, there are some swinging for the fences for jobs that they'll *never* get. As for XL, I think the problem is that the way the districts are split, they're not ideal. Queens is a gamble with jobs on the G, stuff at 95th St, or Stillwell Fox jobs for example. Or the South uptown reports for somebody that's walking distance to Stillwell. Even in the A, there isn't an easy way to pick a district without the risk of working on the dreaded 1 or 6.

OTOH, confirmed RDOs make life a lot easier.

yeah I agree. That's why I just went for XL without worrying about the days off. Having set days off help me set time for a mini vacation too by taking a couple of AVA around my weekend.

There were perfectly viable XL and RDO jobs on the second vacancy list that went unawarded...

True i noticed that too.  I thinks its  because a lot of new XX people don't wanna bother with it. Maybe they got what they wanted on the preference sheet and they are hoping the crew office will keep them on these tours and RDOs. Other people don't see XL as any better than XX so they don't bother. Then some people bid but they only bid on super senior jobs that they have no chance of getting.

I’m sure the times change and vary but when I started in 2018 we had school car M-F 7am-3pm. Some Fridays you have road days so you might start earlier. The weeks also change based on ya schedule which you will get once you start and are assigned TSS’s after you pick divisions. Your calendar they give you will have your start time and reporting locations for the entire school car.

I had the same schedule but when we did road days it usually started later.

I just got email for pre-employment.

    3.        Original Social Security Card

    4.        Original Birth Certificate, or a valid U.S. Passport, or Employment Authorization Card, or Naturalization Papers, or a Permanent Resident Card

    5.        Original copy of High School Diploma or GED

    6.        Successful completion of a drug/alcohol laboratory examination

    7.        You must complete an Online Health Questionnaire the day before your appointment. (See Employment Center Instructions)

I have to bring all of the that on pre-employment date?

Need to bring drug and alcohol exam too? Where can i take the exam?

no they do the drug test there.

And during road ops the hours are 7pm until 3am at different locations mostly starting out of a yard or terminal. Memories of when I did all this last year almost 2 years a t/o time flies.

I was lucky I did road ops 9 am to 5 pm

@Schecter im thinking September as well. August will be great but I think I would’ve received a medical email by now being that classes start August 15th. Either way I’m ready to start this new journey. Staying healthy remaining in shape and ready for the long hours. I work 50-70 weekly now. Sometimes I do 7 days voluntarily so I’m mentally prepared for it.

I received my medical email for the November 15 class last year on November 11 so it's possible you get in the August 15th class.

Lol yea, I’m a special case lol. Initially got in as conductor last summer, finished that school car, then got called for TO couple months later, finished that schoolcar, a month in my old job called me back with a sign on bonus for a couple months. Someone at transit told me it’s better to resign at that moment than try to get away with doing both jobs, cuz I could have gotten in trouble and terminated for it. I resigned the proper way and So to get put back on the list if you don’t mind re-doing schoolcar, which I don’t mind at all, after I was done at my old job collecting that extra bonus was worth it for me. So now just hoping they call me before the list expires. But I already got confirmation my list number was reinstated and plus I reached out to Olha again, So just the waiting game again lol

oh wow! They are really making you redo the whole schoolcar although you just graduated a few months ago?? Maybe they just make you take a refresher course?

Thanks so much for the info. Let me ask if you’ve heard this scenario before and if you have any info on this. If you’ve done the hiring process already, gotten the job, then had to resign for whatever reason, but still were able to be reinstated to the list to be hired again, would you have to go through the application process, would you have to go through finger prints again if it’s all in the same year? I know medical and drug test would def have to be completed again but hoping I don’t have to deal with the application or finger prints as I’ve actually done it twice already in the past year.

I don't know anybody who has done that so I'm not sure sorry.  You already got the job twice this last year?

So they might be calling me soon you’re saying to come to 180 for drug testing and medical for the August class?

I would think so. There were a few people in my induction that were reinstated after they postponed taking the job, and after they were reinstated they were put in the next class.

Anyone know how long it takes to be called once you’ve been reinstated to the list at a much lower number than they’re currently at now? I’m list #23**

You should be in the next class if they reinstated you

this is so me!!!!!!! omg....  i mean.... it doesn't even hurt paying uber.  rest is just that much more important.  1 hour 50 mins on train  vs  40 min ride in uber.  NO BRAINER!!!!

Yeah sleep is very important with this job.

12 hours between jobs as XX, 10 hours as XL, 8 hours with a picked job.

With that said, there's a reason why so many of us drive whenever possible or in a few cases, use Uber as the shortcut.

Since I've been out I've spent a lot of money on Uber...I could drive but they never send me to the yards and they give me a lot of jobs with deadhead, finishing at a different location. So my car and parking permit have been useless to me so far 🤣

How long will this temp bid last for? After it ends can you rebid or will the crew decide your fate?

Whenever that person comes back or if they don't come back until the end of the pick. Then I go back to XX. They told me there is another bid sheet coming out this pick. I don't when that is.

  16. 1 hour ago, trackerjack said:

What!??! CONGRATS!  is it temp or permanent?  and you get to choose which lines on the XL list?  are the tours better too in terms that you pick on the XL?

It's temp. It's south so it's the D, N, Q, B I think. It's pms. You should bid too I'm sure you could get something since I did. There should be another bids sheet coming out soon. Just keep checking on mtatoday under the subway/service delivery page.

Just some random questions if anyone wanna chime in.  thanks in advance!

    1)  what's the average time a newbie has to be here until he/she can win a bid/pick?  say RDO relief?

    2) what about vacataion relief?  how much of senority until you pick those?

    3) let's have a mini vote?  which is better RDO relief or Vacation relief?  i suppose it's subjective right?

    4) and of course...once a newbie can pick a job....i keep hearing they get scraps. is it REALLY that bad?  like...only those 3-4 trippers are left??

I just came out 2 weeks ago and I won a bid. But it's just XL.

I submitted mine at concourse yard..u have to be there before 11 30am. The supt's secretary takes care of it for u in the barn.

If you are A division then do it at Westchester yard. Also at the barn. Just look for the supt's office.

same, Concourse yard they sign it no problems. I think I had the superintendent sign it and the dispatcher too.

Gotcha.  I wonder which yards those are because it would be so much easier for me to drive to the Brooklyn and Flushing yards.

Pitkin, Concourse, and Coney Island allow you with just the pass. Jamaica used to but I heard you need a permit now.

edit: sorry I just realized you are A division
