Please for all that's good if your train goes BIE DO NOT MOVE that train until you have communication with RCC or OCC or Control or whatever wording they use..

Then be governed by their instructions...

You new folks coming down here please be on point follow the rules no matter how asinine they sound or how much others cry whine and moan about them.

In the End those crying and whining will go on with their chit while one gets caught up in the TA meat grinder thinking "this is a stupid rule"...

So true just accept the consequences to what you did it’ll be way worse if you try to hide it

You have to key by 4 diferent automatic before you even get to that home signal at Ocean parkway. When you do a Bravo lay up the dispatcher tells you "you have permission to key into ocean parkway ", usually just the first signal unless it says otherwise , so that the train behind you can enter Brighton each. That guy keyed 4 automatics and approach,  tried to key an home signal. Hit the homesignal. Then drove down the stop arm. Then he split the switch that wasn't set for him. And he said "I didn't do anything wrong, I had the line up" lmao.

That’s amazing wow I bet he’ll be a superintendent one day f up move up

Hey everyone quick question, I’m in the website to order the my work boots. Which one is most comfortable to wear?

They all suck, spend the money get yourself some timberland boondocks they’re about $200 your feet will thank you

There's no way anybody will tell you to key by a home signal, and the t/o should know that you can't key by any home signals. If he doesn't know this then that person doesn't belong operating trains sadly.

I can’t imagine saying that either blame it on the equipment at least bad brakes or something

And that was in the same week of the other major thing. Those were fun reports to read and assist with...

I guess we can talk about work in here, right?

Wha was the major thing? You mean that wasn’t major hooking down a home signal and splitting a switch? My god

Yea this. Some of the incidents I've heard about are wild. Mistakes are 1 thing and those happen to everybody. What I'm hearing about are wrong decision after wrong decision compounded by weak attempts at coverups. Lots of the new folks are doing fine but lately the incidents seem to be very mind boggling.

I read about 1 on instagram that was crazy I think overran station hit home signal hooked down stop arm then split the switch and did damage to the switch and the train if that was real I don’t think it could get much worse

Exactly, people rely too much on the “cushion” you’re given in schoolcar. Eventually they just think that they won’t need to study or put in effort. That’s how they end up failing out.
Then you end up having people posting Instagram stories about how they got flunked out unfairly (e.g. the guy who caused all the signal exams to get changed).

Oooo I didn’t hear that story do tell please. No seriously wtf happened I must know lol?

Less qualified candidates or they didn’t put the effort in. It’s not new. I have friends in the latest class to take the signal exam. It wasn’t that hard.
The problem lies in the fact that these tests are shared around a lot, people get complacent and when they get thrown a curve ball, they’re not prepared. You should always study the signals as if you don’t know what’ll be on the exam. Many in my class didn’t even need the test sent to us, because we spent everyday going over the signals either on the phone or solo.

2 in my class should’ve failed both practicals as for the signals only 4 aside from myself actually passed the signal tests. It was frustrating cause I studied my ass off and then they got called in the hallway with the tss coaching them like so what you meant to say was

The signal exams and quizzes are getting 5X harder now due to the previous corruption of shared information on exam material. People got fired and tests are made new every time one is administered. Whoever is lucky enough to get called next, study hard and make sure to constantly test yourself. Write things down, say it aloud and practice with your colleagues. Good luck folks!

Not sure what was going on in school car but a lot of tss’s from school car came back to the road

You know how it is when you a regular someplace and someone calls out or is late, before crew office fills the job the dispatcher is looking out the door to see who wants the work. Surprisingly most people say no.

Used to be like that hasn’t been like that in a few months. A year or 2 ago was awesome it was all the ot you could handle

I am waiting for transit now. LIRR called me as well. So while I wait I will go for LIRR and see how far I can get. I am not working at the moment so I have some time to study. If transit calls me in time then I will go. Don’t want to miss out on any opportunities.

Yes do it I said the whole time this would have been easier if I wasn’t already a train operator. Good luck to you

I mean you only go in twice a week for the 6 weeks.

True yes twice a week Saturday is 6am-2 pm and Wednesday is 5:30-9:30pm. It’s not about the days you go it’s about the amount of studying required to pass the phase 1 test which I passed and I can tell you I never studied that hard for school car it’s a lot of time and with our schedule it was incredibly challenging. Was lucky enough to have t/w rdo’s and a later start on Saturday so it worked out for me. All I’m saying is the subway train operator really isn’t that bad. My only complaint about this job really is. Tier 6 and that all city jobs including lirr

School car 14 months ? Where did you get that information from ? That’s wrong whoever said that @Djf22 and unpaid 6 weeks ? Who told you that ? Lol I wouldn’t have took this job if I was unpaid for 6 weeks. You guys need to get some accurate information cause the info yall are receiving is wrong. @MarkGuy

We’re talking about locomotive engineer trainee for the lirr

  14. 12 minutes ago, MarkGuy said:

Agreed. I actually received a letter to go down there for orientation a few months ago. Looked at the benefits sheet in the email and pay scale and realized it wasn't worth it.

That, and you go unpaid for 6 weeks.

Yup the amount they ask you to study during those 6 weeks makes our schoolcar look like a joke it 6 weeks of nothing but operating rules then a 3 hour long test to possibly get to move onto the paid portion which they call phase 2 and it lasts 14 months. The starting pay is around 27. If I wasn’t already here then yes I would have stayed but for me it just didn’t seem worth it. People complain about the subway being so bad and I honestly don’t get it I’m curious to know what those people did before this and what they honestly expect from this place.

Good luck man because that is a tough gig to get into yet them dinosaurs there are getting outta dodge so you young got  a shot take it!

The hardest part is the pay cut for 2 years I got in and left couldn’t afford the pay cut. They do have a good gig there but it really is not much better than what we have A LOT more responsibility for not that much more in pay. Their version of school car is 14 months long. Our health insurance is better they pay more in union dues and pension contributions than we do. So while the grass may look greener on the other side I didn’t think it was that much greener

Well said, any financial decisions or planning should always be done based on base pay. But that said the notion that overtime is dried up is false. I get offered overtime 3 or 4 times a week.

Where what tour? Lol I used to get offered the ot every single day. Also what kind of ot extra trips yard etc.

A few friends are in schoolcar. Ppl are dropping out because it’s a tough and fast paced course. Signal exams are 100% or termination. As ppl get terminated or resign, it opens up more spots for others.

Well school car gets harder the further down the list they get.

Quick heads up guys and girls this was posted by the union VP

    "Quick Information

#1. Current staffing numbers for all 3 titles

We currently have deficits in all 3 titles:

    -180+ Train Operators and Conductors

    -40 Tower Operators.

These numbers are subject to change due to attrition and promotion.

#2. Projected promotion classes/new hire classes

-April, May and July Conductor Classes 50-60 per class

-April-August Train Operator Classes 50 per class"

How are they in need of anymore train operators it’s become hard to get any overtime rdo’s late clears etc. the sheets are full hardly any open job except maybe a few yard jobs that’s it. People are clearing board or coming damn close to it
