  1. Lol...30 miles to work, and 30 miles to home from Far Rockaway Depot.....they have a lot of open runs and overtime...I know you'll be good in that area!...I liked Far Rockaway Depot better... it's small, and everyone there is like family! JFK Depot, that's where the bosses are...if you want to pass probation, go to Far Rockaway, if you want hours, go to JFK Depot....I had 6 weeks of line training...3 weeks at each Depot....I think 12 days of line training you'll go back to Zerega for graduation.
  2. Regardless of your score and where you live, you will be sent where ever Bus Company needs operator....to my understanding, a lot of operators did not know there are three agencies under MTA you can operate a bus...most of us thought it was just MTA Bus Company....but after years, some make it work for them, some transfer, and some do the exam to crossover in the other agencies. I'm happy I did both exam a month apart.
  3. Yes I was with MTA bus company. JFK Depot and Far Rockaway Depot are same ATU local 1179....you can work out of any two Depots without a transfer....the other bus company Depots you can transfer into but that can take years! I remember the union rep told me at least 5 people granted a transfer for the year.... However, I live in Westchester County and I drove 60 miles a day to Far Rockaway Depot plus tolls both ways...Far Rockaway Depot is 15 mins away from JFK Depot....you will have to learn all the lines of both Depot....JFK have 8 local routes and Far Rockaway have 5 local routes and 4 express routes!...to make your life more easier, take the BO exam for MaBSTOA where you can work out of the Bronx and Manhattan Division....TA exam is also open on MTA website....I'm currently working out of a a Bronx Depot right now as one of the choices I picked out of Zerega....I think later on this month they'll have the Depots general pick...I hope I don't get bumped out the Bronx!
  4. I just crossed over to TA....you can only pick out of Brooklyn, Manhattan and Bronx Division! You can request a transfer to be in Queens Division and Staten Island! Mostly likely, you will get it but you'll be stuck in Queens Division and Staten Island for the rest of your career!
  5. I don't remember....I applied through the JVN (Job Vacancy Notice) last year April and did the exam in June....I did TA exam in July last year.
  6. Sanitation may pay a lil more but it's more work...plus you gotta be working in different types of weather, outside! Lifting, pulling, pushing, etc! If you have the strength and energy for this job, do it! You'll have to drive the buses in different types of weather too...push and pull the steering wheel though....lol...you just gotta do this job safely, use your mirrors, don't get into accidents, no speeding, control your emotions and don't argue with the customers! You'll be fine. Do what's best for you and your family.
  7. I did exam 2613, list number is 12#....I 1st received my letter in May, and I was called in July to start my day 1 pre employment processing on July 13 which consist of application verification and drug test...I received another email today to go back to Livingston St for another updated drug test on Aug 3....I will also have to wait to be called again for day 2, so I can be in a class later on in August....I'm currently with MTA Bus Company now...just finished my 5 weeks of line training...going on my own tomorrow...wish me luck!!!!
  8. Okay, thank you for that info....I just received an email to start the pre employment process from exam 2613, list number 12# in this coming week....I turbo scanned my application paperworks for MTA BUS Company, I can just reprint it for TA...saves time.... hopefully, everything will work out when I crossover and get to work out of a Depot close to home.🙏🤞
  9. @lornaevoThank you for clarifying the misinformation...lol....I did an exam for TA last year and I'm still waiting to be called...do you know if when I crossover to TA I will be able to pick a Depot in the Bronx, or I would have to choose a Depot that's available?....I wouldn't want to leave MTA Bus Company and force to go somewhere that's far away from home....JFK/Far Rockaway Depot is already too far for me.....just need to be close to home...thanks in advance!
  10. And also, I know you don't pay to take a test for MTA Bus Company and Mabstoa, only TA...so if you pay to take the exam 2613, it's TA.
  11. It's 3 different agencies under MTA.... NYCTA(TA)=civil service, MaBSTOA(OA) Manhattan and Bronx=non civil service, and MTA Bus Company=non civil service. MTA Bus Company was a private bus company before MTA took it over... they're mostly run under ATU union and have their own pension. TA/OA under TWU local 100. TA is civil service and they get the NYCERS pension...same pay for all three. ...with MTA Bus Company, you don't get to pick a Depot, they'll just send you to a Depot where there's availability....TA/OA you get to pick a Depot to work out of but with OA, it's still what's available you can pick from and it goes by seniority...but I know, it's every year you get to pick a Depot, but also keep in mind, everything goes by seniority...you get a Depot you like, cool. Next year a seniority guy can pick that Depot and get your spot...gotta work your way up. Every 3 months you get to pick a new route. So it's still not a guarantee you'll get a Depot close to home...I'm not sure about TA.....I'm currently with MTA Bus Company, JFK and Far Rockaway Depot, they're under the same union.....one of the issues that I'm having now is driving 60 miles a day, 5 days a week and back and forth through the tolls, plus traffic! That part sucks! I also look at it like, I have more to gain than to lose with MTA. I did 2 exams last year summer of which one was MTA Bus Company and TA. I was called for MTA Bus Company, they need people....maybe they're calling people from these exams and sending them wherever they're short BOs.... they'll still call you for TA. You're on the civil service eligible list for 4 or 5 years before that exam expired. I also did exam 2613 and still waiting to be called...I'm still looking for other employments with the MTA.....not trying to limit myself!..lol ..hope this helps and good luck with everything!!
  12. Hey, so to my understanding, they have not yet established the list numbers for exam 2614....I did exam 2613 and still waiting to be called.....they are still canvassing people from 2612, and now currently on 2613... hopefully by July or August you'll get your list number....
  13. Good luck to your wife! That training ain't no joke! She'll be trained like she's in the military!...lol... she'll be good though! I did exam 2613 as well... hopefully they'll call me soon....I just passed my road test for MTA Bus Company, and was assigned to JFK Depot!...it will cost me a lot of money back and forth for toll fees and gas...with TA, I can work out of a Depot close to home, hopefully!
  14. @lornaevo can you tell me if the 10 days training is conservative and how many hours for a day? Thanks!
  15. Oh wow, that sounds discouraging! But hey, only way to get the experience is to know what it's like, right? The starting pay is $26 for MTA Bus Company. I also learned today while getting my fingerprints done: I did two exams last year under 2305....(JVN) Job Vacancy Notice in June, and (TA) NYCT in July...they processed me from the JVN exam to work for MTA Bus Company, and training starts this Sunday. They haven't reached my list number, 12X for TA exam 2613 I took in July.....so happy that confusion was cleared up!...Just going to focus on passing the 10 days training for now with MTA Bus. Has anyone been called from the eligible list of exam 2613?
