  1. finish what ever you can as a conductor, its your job to complete your trips and open and close the doors at every stop
  2. stay persistent but try not to worry you have time. when they do reach out to you it will be via email, text message and a letter in the mail for the date.
  3. something similar happened to my friend 2 weeks before the fare enforcement exam date they claimed they never got the waiver and my friend had to resend their military info to exams unit email lucky they were able to get everything sorted out in such short notice and they were able to take the test.
  4. so this past week i heard alot about this exam and i work at Staten island railway, were having a large Locomotive Engineer class soon and to compensate for us losing a fair amount of Conductors to Engineer NYCT said we can canvas this exam for people to see if they're willing to make the jump to Staten Island. As of right now the pay is the same but wont be for long were still in contract negotiations and looking to make a little more than NYCT Just a FYI Conductors in SIR are Railroad conductors they do alot more than just open and close doors they're on switching crew, work trains and flagging. keep an eye for a letter by mail or a call from a random 347 number if you're interested.
  5. im just saying your terminology is wrong you said you don't want to drive trains im saying you meant to say you don't want to operate them, and i already work for the mta im good
  6. if you plan working for a RR you should at least know you don't drive trains its not a car
  7. not for me at least, i might be a little bias but i think SIRTOA has beautiful scenery being right by the water at some parts seeing the ferry and transition from urban to very suburban, and the line is the same but of course you know no day is the same so i like that aspect of it. also i wish i had this forum sooner but i see its lacking SIRTOA info so im open to any questions.
  8. The Process from start to finish is you apply if you're lucky they will interview you once you get to the interview stage if you don't know someone who has worked for the MTA or currently works for the MTA you have a very slim chance of making it, and after the interview they should call you the same day or within a week to tell you that you got the job about a week after that you will do an MTA drug test at 180 one to two weeks later you will go in for medical you get hired the same day no fingerprints or money order you just have to sign a paper saying you have no pending charges, and then they have you go to the next HR orientation for NYCT the day after that you will start yard training and have to pass a few very easy test to become a full conductor meaning you are able to flag and yes SIRTOA conductors do flag, and also assist on work trains and switching crews and operate on passenger service trains but not often when you first start, but its pretty good gig if your able to get to Staten Island in less than 2 hours because the SIRTOA extra list is a railroad extra list meaning you get a call and have 2 hours to report to St George to start your tour. also when you apply just keep in mind the whole RR has a total of 350 employees including Admin and Operations and MOW etc.
